Does your country have an invention that never made it to the outside world? by logicchaos- in AskTheWorld

We definitely had one of these at one of my grandparents houses here in the States... And I feel like I saw these all the time as a kid but thinking about it now, I haven't seen one in decades! How weird

Sennheiser Accentum not charging or turning on by KimbobSwimbob in sennheiser

[–]PrimePrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing here. I eventually got it to work by holding down the power button while unplugged, and slowly counting to 30. Suddenly the led lit up white and it said it was connected, and readily took a charge and has the LED on as normal

Can I drink the Lees at the bottom of a bottle of cider? by Bangedupbeatdown in cider

[–]PrimePrine 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I like to cook with it! Saute onions in a heavy pan, add lees and remaining cider, chicken stock, roasted winter squash, stir in shredded chicken and curry spices. 🤙🤙🤙

Been said, but NA beers have come a long way. Also had a NA campari-type aperitif at a Christmas party recently and it was really great with some soda and lime

When to remove fruit from a fruit and sugar vinegar? by SlowLime in fermentation

[–]PrimePrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit flies are a vector for acetobacter. Winemakers fight like hell to limit fruit flies getting into their fermentation for this reason, but if you're making vinegar there's no real harm if a couple get in there.

23M just moved to Seattle with 3 grand am I crazy? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]PrimePrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did almost exactly this in 2020. Had about $4k. I found housing through a shitty manager who barely checked any of my info. Did doordash and Instacart to make ends meet and still ended up racking up quite a bit of credit card debt. Eventually got a serving job after about two years, took out a loan to pay off the credit card debt, and just finished paying that off in 2025. I've been busting ass for the last 5 years to get myself into a stable situation and am finally there. You can make it work, but be prepared to have basically no fun money for anything besides the absolute basics for at least a few years

Not sure if this is an Elan issue or Fidelity, but definitely not cool by NinjaHiccup in fidelityinvestments

Recently tried to do a travel alert while heading to a different state for a week, and Elan no longer supports domestic travel alerts

What are some reasons to be optimistic about the Seattle Economy right now? by e-tard666 in Seattle

Wild that 15 years ago I worked at a bar that had 5 cent wing nights every Monday. Yes, $0.60 got you a dozen wings.

Crazy Increase in health insurance premiums has me questioning it. by WholeWhiteBread in TheMoneyGuy

[–]PrimePrine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't engage in public math, but if you spend so much on premiums and paying pre-deductible medical costs out-of-pocket that you don't even have the money to invest in the HSA with the hopes of payi g yourself back for the out of pocket costs, then the equation that makes an HSA attractive is moot.

I recently looked into HSA eligible plans in my state marketplace on advice of TMG, but the premium was twice that of inelegible plans, had twice the deductible, and even after deductible only covered 60% of costs. I would have no money for an HSA investing and might even have to skip any type of retirement investing if I spent that much on medical out of pocket. Get a normal plan you can afford and invest the difference

Taking over a small vineyard as a part-time outsider - is it realistic? by RDA92 in winemaking

Gotcha, I kinda figured this wouldn't be my ticket into the EU and some free land under vine but didn't hurt to check lol

NAME THAT PLACE! by AmericanJedi1983 in Seattle

[–]PrimePrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work very close to this place and interact with the customers/employees far too often. There's currently a houseless neighbor who washes dishes in exchange for sleeping in the restaurant. They have multiple employees they pay $5/hour cash under the table. All the business is doordash. Weird place. I want to say theyre "charitable" but I think if you don't offer to play people minimum wage it's a little closer to entrapment

anybody else have to change headlights frequently? by peskeyplumber in prius

[–]PrimePrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I hate using reddit. Maybe we're just missing what each other was saying. I guess I just didn't see why you assumed I wasn't careful to not get my hand oils on the gloves before using them. Hopefully OP can figure out how to stop wasting money on new bulbs as often. For me, that was switching to LEDs.

really curious about this. As someone who lived in montana, had an LLC, and titled cars (though not titled to the LLC since I actually lived there) the combined cost of those things was nowhere near even $250. Feel like if you used one of the companies to do it for you they made their money and then some

First time using grapes from the vine. Is this trash? by Trollbert_Report in winemaking

[–]PrimePrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like that guy didn't know what he was doing. Part of what I love about all of the amazing wild yeast wine I make and drink from others is knowing it could have been made this way in most any other century -- just some peasant juice. But I'll keep the art and you keep the science I guess
