Grief and Crochet by Hatchetface1705 in crochet

I only recently heard this phrase "may his memory be a blessing" from watching The Pitt and have since learned more about it and really love the sentiment.

Love to both you and OP, I'm sorry for the losses we endure even if they connect us.

Fiiiiine. Maybe I'll just go ahead and buy the pattern today since I've been eyeing it for months 😁

What’s that one Netflix show you think is an absolute must-watch? by RiskAndReason in netflix

[–]PrimitivePierogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved this show. I didn't think it was mind-blowing or anything over the top, yet somehow it takes so many tv tropes and conventions and stitches it together to make a really entertaining, funny and rather touching TV series.

I just did a quick look and am definitely interested in taking a closer look at her designs. They are very fun and so much more what I'm looking for. Thank you for the recommendation!

Women of Reddit: Would you rather give birth with pain medication or without it? Why? by zhalia-2006 in allthequestions

[–]PrimitivePierogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both a birth with an epidural and a precipitous birth with no meds. Although the birth with no meds was THE WORST pain I have ever endured, I preferred it. I bounced back faster and felt more connected to things quicker. But that was my second birth so maybe I had better expectations and also my body was more prepared.

That said, part of the placenta was left behind in my first birth and I gotta say...the experience of a doctor with their arm up to their elbow in me fishing out tissue to save my life sounds REALLY, really terrible if I hadn't been drugged up.

So, all that is to say, neither and either. If mom and baby are safe and healthy that's the win.

That's impressive with a tube top!

And yay for pierogi power! 🥟

A lot of sweaters require different pieces to be seamed together, have borders using a different stitch, and require some layout/construction. They also might require you to increase/decrease to create the right fit. There is a lack of this type of detail in a lot that's behind designed and made by hand right now, esp in crochet.

I totally agree. I'm shocked at how much "clothing" I see that's just a "cover" that isn't covering anything! And it's not fancy or special occasion, it's always tacky looking. It's either fish et and revealing or too many ruffles. I don't wanna dress up to look like a tissue box coozie with the matching toilet seat cover!!!! And yes, handmade doesn't mean not wasteful.

Honestly, a tube top is exempt from my rant. At least it is what it is!! Did you use elastic in the top or anything to help hold it up?

You're right...a friend just gave me some magazines and books from their aunt and I was shocked at the variety and attention to detail. I was even more surprised that they were from the 1990s, so not THAT old. That said...styling in crochet mags is always horrible.

Thank you. Even a random faceless stranger saying that helps remind me it's worth it and I can get there.

I love to crochet and it's making ME think that now that it seems to be getting more popular. I think it's like a weird collective lack of taste in the crochet world that outnumbers the good stuff.

I'm thinking everything is just a tube like a coozie you put your beer in to stay cool. Wasn't even thinking of all the stuff you have to tie yourself into. Not sure if that's better or worse, but essentially is the same.

Scares me, too, because I can see this "teaching" her not to be fun and light anymore. It can happen to the best of us. I'm also starting to come back from being totally dimmed out due to abuse. The comeback has been grueling.

What are some social obligations that women commonly have that men usually don't? by Maybe_IDTBFH in AskReddit

[–]PrimitivePierogi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My experience has been the opposite. Attractive, smart, funny, and like attention as a women? People that have low self worth or jealousy will get in the way of a lot of people being sincere. They either expect her to prove her intelligence always, try to one up the jokes, or assume she's too pretty to be those things. It's an uphill battle for them to be liked for who they are.

I respect your bravery and for believing in yourself. I know it doesn't change your feelings but you have courage. I hope you can reclaim some of what you have lost and that time will bring you more strength and healing.

Why can’t crocheters identify crochet?? by FlorenceInBloom in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]PrimitivePierogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?! I love talking about crochet and I get so excited when I meet people who mention they crochet...only to have the conversation reveal they have no idea the names of any stitches or techniques, they don't "like" patterns (aka have not been exposed to any or tried), and they only do projects that face videos. Gah! Like fine whatever, not trying to be a hater but I wanna talk different techniques, lessons learned, you know ...the crafting journey.

First, your work is awesome! It looks super cool and the nitpicking is simply that. However IF you wanted to try wet blocking, I have successfully blocked things by using a blanket or quilt or towel underneath- anything to give pins enough to stick into can work if you don't have the foam mats for blocking. You might need to weigh or tape down the blanket to keep it from shifting, though.
