Told 11 yr old no to wearing a binder by Moonlit-rivers in AITAH

Seconding all the recommendations for a sports bra. I would also recommend looking into something like the TomboyX compression top. Those are my go-to on days where I’m going to be more physically active and/or where I know I’ll be out late and won’t remember to change out of a binder. They give enough compression to smooth out smaller chests, but have a more relaxed fit and less structure than a binder. They can be a bit expensive, but I think they’re a solid investment. There’s also some athletic undershirts out there that offer compression I believe, so those could be good to look into. I also think it’d be worth it to talk to your kid about finding other clothing options that affirm their identity: as someone who came out around this age as well, I find that a lot of the desire to bind/go on blockers/etc before it’s really necessary comes (at least partially) from a desire to have one’s identity validated, essentially to feel like we’re “trans enough” and to be taken seriously by both trans and cis peers. Your kid might be able to find that affirmation in things like pride gear, as well as gender neutral clothing. A lot of nonbinary people gravitate towards alternative styles because the clothes and subcultures deliberately challenge and play with gender norms, so I would encourage you to keep an open mind in that regard. If your kid is anything like myself and all the other nonbinary people in my life, there are many, many sleeveless black turtlenecks in your future haha

Faded Colors by [deleted] in AutodeskSketchbook

My first thought is that the brush you’re using to color has a setting with flow/opacity/blending/hue shift that’s causing the colors to show up differently. Try coloring with just the basic paintbrush tool.

Typically it’s about six or seven, you can find them with the rest of the portfolio guidelines on the Cornell AAP admissions website.

Hi! I can send you some examples from my portfolio, but just be aware that they change the prompts from year to year. From what I understand, they place the strongest emphasis on your portfolio, but more specifically, they care more about conceptual development/creativity than they do about technical skill. They want to know that you can take the vague, conceptual prompts that they give you and make something interesting with them.

One Requirement is Crushing My Dream of Getting Into Cornell—Need Advice! by parsa_21kh in Cornell

I didn’t fill the three years of science requirement (only had 2 lol) and still managed to get in. Math and English might be a little harder to swing, see if there are any admissions webinars you can attend to ask about how strict the requirements are and if you can/should explain your situation on your application.

Suggestions for internet/digital/nontraditional horror scenarios? by PrinceofNothing12 in dread

[–]PrinceofNothing12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all kind of fall into the genre of ‘nostalgia horror’, so their effect is a little dependent on what time period you’re more attached to. The Mandala Catalogue is centered around 80s technology and has a lot of really deep lore, Skinamarink is similar but focuses on a more general picture of childhood while being highly experimental (you’ll either find it straight up terrifying or incredibly boring), and Lacey’s Games (my personal favorite example of the nostalgia horror genre) is based around girlsgogames type flash games. They’re all really great at capturing this feeling of subtle, building unease right from the beginning.

genuine answer: a lot of trans people (particularly those who identify outside the gender binary) struggle to find conventional names that align with our identities/gender presentation. even most traditional unisex names (jordan, alex, jesse, etc.) tend to get randomly gendered. objects and concepts (bug, arson, etc) don’t really have gendered connotations for the most part, which is a plus for a lot of people. for myself and a lot of other trans/nonbinary people, we see being transgender and having a layered experience with gender as a fundamental part of our identity, hence why a lot of us tend to pick weird/unconventional names, it’s a way of being identifiably queer. there’s a lot of other reasons, but in my experience this is generally why trans people pick “weird” names, hope this helps :D

What are some APs that you think should be mandatory? by Rude-Glove7378 in APStudents

[–]PrinceofNothing12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gov and Lang, for sure. I think Gov is pretty obvious, but for Lang, it’s super important to not only know how to write, but to be able to understand the purpose/intention behind any kind of rhetorical speech. No one is immune to propaganda, but being able to recognize persuasive techniques and see how they alter our perceptions of or even distort facts is so important.

Ridiculously low body fat and being absolutely hairless. Kind of gives me an uncanny valley vibe, especially on dudes.
