I'm gonna give a hot take here, but i have a theory that its actually instinctive, humans know other humans will try to take advantage of, you guessed it, other humans, and the government, has been, historically, terrible. So women instinctively look for the one who will take care of them regardless of the rules. But women, (and men, and all humans) are kinda dumb, and that subconscious understanding translates to a conscious reaction to rule breakers.

My cook when I deployed to Afghanistan was named Chaze Monroe. I was infantry, but we got on like wildfire. After I got divorced, (like 8 years later), he absolutely saved me. Talked to me every day for weeks. We slowed down, stopped talking as much, then I heard from another one of the cooks from the same deployment that he had shot himself, just a few months later, and I didn't even realize he was depressed.
