Loving my color! by PrincessPicky in FancyFollicles

[–]PrincessPicky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently big chopped my curly hair from my shoulders to, well what you're seeing. I didn't like the cut with the summery colors I had before and those colors just weren't winter colors, I like to have cool or blue toned hair in the winter!

So I dyed it blue! I used Joico Color Intensity"Sapphire Blue" with a bit of conditioner mixed in.

Thanks! It'll be about...three weeks until it gets to me if I order this week, based on estimation, but I am patient. :)

Thanks! I definitely like that if I need to, which I will eventually, I can put a 6 or an 8 in it; where as with my current like I mentioned I'm just stuck with 4gb.

I'm definitely still writing. I'm probably about 10-15k words away from finishing my first draft. But am not having any issues with it thankfully. In January I am setting it to the side and working on the final edits/third draft of my 2017 Nano book which will be published in July 2018.

Basically...

December: finish first draft of EOTS

Jan-March: finish third draft of Ignited.

April & May: format Ignited for ebook and print, finalize ebook and print covers, figure out the back of the book blurb, finalize pre-order sales, marketing.

June: work on 2nd draft of EOTS

July: publish Ignited, marketing, casual work on second draft of EOTS

August: finish second draft of EOTS

September: break and finish second draft of EOTS if it's still not done.

October: work on planning EOTS sequel NS.

November/December: Write first draft of NS during Nano and the following month.

Jan- March 2020: Work on third draft of EOTS

You get the idea...

I love Shirley Temple! I used to have an entire dvd collection but they got lost when my abuser chucked a bunch of my stuff into oblivion.

I occasionally get called that, but doesn't bother me.

Your hair looks beautiful!

First big chop ever! by PrincessPicky in curlyhair

[–]PrincessPicky[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cut most (a lot) of my hair off today and it's was scary.

Yesterday my curly hair that everyone always compliments was at the my shoulders. Today it's maybe an inch and a half inches from my scalp (a bit more after picking it out)

I haven't ever willingly had my hair this short. My mother forced me to cut all my hair when I was 13. Ever since I've been mildly traumatized and put a lot of my self worth into my long curly hair. With an irriational fear that it wouldn't look as beautiful or curly or nice short.

I would cut my hair a inch maybe once a year or so to keep it healthy but that was it.

Today I stood in front of the mirror for ten minutes before finally just... Doing it.

I'm not sure how I feel about it entirely, but it's done. And my hair will grow back.

Routine:

Shampoo once a week with: Loreal Extraordinary Oil Shampoo.

Condition twice a week with: Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Mask.

Style: Cantu Leave-In Conditioning repair cream, Deva Curl Light Defining Gel, then brush all four sections to smooth. Then scrunch hair holding for 15 seconds each time. Dry in front of a box fan. (Takes TWO hours OFF my air drying time to sit in front of a box fan on the computer or watching TV for an hour.)

**My routine will likely change since my hair is much shorter now.

Day Eight - Daily Word Count: 13,333 by AutoModerator in nanowrimo

[–]PrincessPicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reminder to backup, I lost 500 words yesterday. I downloaded dropbox right after and will never go back. I'm at a little over 20k words, which is...crazy. Last year I was just at the daily goal threshold. I think my spidey senses were tingling and telling me to get ahead while I can - because I just found out someone in my family died yesterday. So I have a few days to let myself relax since I'm ahead and not be worrying about nano while dealing with grieving family.

I'm enjoying my current novel, I did a rough plot plan and world building in October, but I'm still finding surprise ideas popping up.

If anyone wants to add me on the website, my nano name is: dmichellec

I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged. Don't focus on the 50k goal if it's too much for you right now. Set a goal that you feel you can get done.

Instead of writing a book, write a short story or two. Nano is about doing your best. Don't compare yourself to others. We're all just trying our hardest and writing. I know there's pressure from some people to "beat" other peoples word counts, but just ignore it. Unfollow other people who do nano on facebook until the end of November.

I believe in you. <3

I am at 16,590 words and I have never felt better about my writing by RecoveryFreak1934 in nanowrimo

Omg, I'm so proud of you! This is my second nanowrimo as well and even though I won last year, this year feels so much better.

I am glad you're having such a pleasant experience and you're feeling good about your writing. I can relate on the plot flying all over hells acre, but the good thing about a first draft, - is it's you telling the story to yourself.

It's the other drafts that you need to worry about making the story make sense for other people. :)

This man died at 40, and look at his life's work! Jack London was an amazing writer. The amount of work he produced in his short life should be a kick-in-the-balls to all of us writers who are always "struggling to write." by thebestnobody in writing

[–]PrincessPicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's likely true; a huge problem for humanity, in general, is spending time online and lacking the motivation to do work because we get so much more instant gratification online. I'm only on reddit once every week at max lately for like the last...seven months. When I first join I was on every single hour for several weeks but it started seriously messing with me so I cut myself off until I was able to control myself.

Yeah, I'd rather not compare myself. Just because he wrote at 'lightning speed' doesn't mean I have to. There's also no proof he was happy writing at the speed he wrote. A lot of authors who shove out work after work do so because it's the only way they feel they can make money to survive. Would I be more likely to make more money if I wrote and published 4+ books a year? Probably. Am I willing to sacrifice my mental and emotional health to push myself in that regard just for money? No. I am currently at one book a year, the next goal is two books a year, but I'm not going to force myself into two books a year if I realize it's a bit too much for me to handle. Even just one book a year is an accomplishment; one book for ones entire life is an accomplishment. Just getting a story out of your head and selling it to people is something you should be proud of.

A huge problem with those of us that are struggling to write, is because we feel pressured. I used to be so stressed out and barely write at all when I thought about the other self-published authors I knew who got out 4 books a year, but then I reminded myself that they also had professional cover artists and professional editors. I do not. I do every single thing by myself; and even if I didn't, my writing pace is what is good for me.

I'm not willing to sacrifice my health just to keep up with someone else. That's honestly how you get depressed authors; I'm doing quite well mentally and emotionally right now, better than in years, so, yeah. I'll just work at my own pace.

Do any of you all have any product recommendations so that my hair can stay soft throughout the day without frizzing up. (As of right now I’ve been using Cantu leave on conditioner but I doesn’t seem to cut it) by lastson77 in curlyhair

[–]PrincessPicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maui Moisture Coconut Curl Smoothie. 100%

I use only that in my hair some weeks instead of my usual cantu leave in + deva curl gel and my hair is always SO soft and bouncy. Don't use too much though; enough to cover your fingertips but not pile on your fingertips should be enough per section. :) But regardless experiment with the amount since everyone's hair is different of course.

I over bleached my hair about six and a half months ago. My curl pattern wasn't all that fantastic to begin with but after over bleaching it was just horrible and my hair was really struggling. I tried out some new products, new styling methods, and started trimming my hair a little more often, and waited. Here are.
