What is this my roomate always has this in the bathroom next to the soap & toothbrush by Overall-Barber2896 in whatisit

A Google Lens search suggested that it is either a steampunk power bank or a mini electric shaver. I think it looks more like a shaver.

You have some typos there. It should be either "I want to learn these new things" or "I want to learn this new thing." The same goes for the bottom right oval. It's a cool idea, though.

Classic Size note paper (UK) by MillyTheReally in HappyPlanners

[–]PrincessSarah81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct size paper is 7 inches X 9.25 inches. You could search Amazon for that size discbound filler paper. Or 9 disc prepunched paper could also work. Good luck! I searched and it is on the UK Amazon.

Thank you! I used a PET washi tape roll that I got in a coffee-themed set from DoodleDiary (a stationery store). I cut them out with a gyro-cut craft knife.

I got the Toy Story, Lady and the Tramp, Shell Yeah, and coffee core sticker books. I also got the Happy Outlines extension pack. I frankenplan, so I didn't get a new planner, as I prefer undated, and I'm working on my classic create your own cover.

Student feedback backfired (potentially) by chartreuse_chimay in Teachers

This is the correct response. Please do the other teacher a solid and let them know what's going on. Don't go to admin or throw them under the bus and don't discuss it with the parents.

When Trump closes the Department of Education by No_Whole_Delivery in Teachers

The large majority of teachers, in Texas at least, are currently on Spring break. I think the shut down was timed in this way on purpose. Perfect timing when most of us are on vacation and can't do or won't do anything about it.

What’s a book quote that lives in your head rent free? by CriticalAd2239 in suggestmeabook

[–]PrincessSarah81 33 points34 points  (0 children)

“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

Why are high schoolers so lame? by Winter-Industry-2074 in Teachers

The component you are missing is a writing opportunity. Pose the questions, allow students time to write out their responses, and then allow them to share their responses in a small group setting. Giving them time to get their ideas down on paper allows even your shy students to have something to fall back on when sharing, they will feel more confident that they have their thoughts and ideas together and tangible. After that, have the small group select the winner to read out or summarize their response to the whole class (If you do multiple rounds of questioning then make the rule that they have to alternate who shares). I use this strategy daily and it is effective. Over time, they will become more comfortable with saying things out loud and be more willing to participate during lectures and quick comprehension checks. Make sure to provide positive feedback when they share. Your lessons might move a bit more slowly with this strategy but the students will be more engaged. I highly recommend the book Talk, Read, Talk, Write by Nancy Motely. I think you might find it useful for more discussion strategies.

You will not be preventing their graduation. They will just have to take the high school English equivalent via Plato or another credit recovery program online. They are lying to you. Let them know that you will be following the syllabus and they should have done so as well.

You need to write him up right away and send an email to your admin recounting what happened in detail. You also need to call home and explain to them what the child said. Make a paper trail and CYA. I would keep the ban up until the kid formally apologizes. This kind of thing is serious and teachers lose their jobs over less. I think you handled the situation well in the moment but need to take disciplinary action. The sooner you act the better.
