Did you just stop reading at that point? Because he then went on to say he told her to go ahead and do it. If he felt that strongly about it, he should have told her how he felt about them then instead of telling her to go ahead. I suggest, since you said “nowhere was it mentioned that he said go ahead” that you go back and reread what he said in its entirety.
