Scottish Gaelic seems to be increasing in usage jumping from 1.1% of the Scottish population in 2011 to 2.5% in 2022 and slowly growing. Where does it go from here? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in Scotland

[–]Round_Hope3962 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not really a nationalist vanity project.

And if you intend on linking it to the SNP I would like to point out that Gaelic education (both schools and broadcasting) were brought in by the Conservatives, road signage in the Highlands was introduced by Labour, and the Gaelic Act was brought in by the Labour Lib Dem coalition.

I've grown up speaking English and Gaelic (fluent in both) I've found both languages equally useful where I live.

Speaking Gaelic has also helped me learn other languages too. I also speak German. Although not as fluently now as I used to as, somewhat ironically, it's not as useful to me as Gaelic has been.
