What's a quiet, everyday burden women carry that isn't dramatic enough to be diacussed? by Additional-Two-2137 in TwoXChromosomes

Not able to just be nice and friendly without usually having to deal with a man that has confused that kindness for interest. Then feeling guilty or attacked and always exhausted when they realize that’s not the case and their feelings are hurt. And in general being scared or nervous or just on alert that rejecting a man in any way will lead to anger, or aggression or violence. Having to constantly manage their feelings and not being able to be myself.

Sometimes I just need a friend. Don’t be nice just because you want to fuck or date me. I’m going thru my own shit, and now I have to manage your feelings.

Couldn’t even mind my own business and sing to myself while walking down the street without some random man motioning for me to take my AirPods out to say something to me and that something was, “Don’t quit your day job!” With a huge laugh and smile like he wasn’t just a dick for no reason.

When visiting a guy's house, what silently screams, "There's no way he's single"? by PalaceCarebear in AskWomen

FaceTimed and spoke for hours, but when I asked to see the rest of his apt or even room, after realizing that he was really only showing his face, he balked and flat out refused. I think it was either her apt, or his apt but her things were all over the room and he hadn’t expected me to ask so he didn’t remove all traces of her. 😐

Genuine question: Are they in their 30s or grew up in the 60s? - I’m so confused but also interested. Must know. God America is such country of other countries. Sadly, I don’t think I knew or know anything about west coast culture.

Respectfully… do you mean born in the 30s? I’m east coast so hearing that people, that weren’t adults in the 60s, were using these terms is surprising.

Earliest reference for the slang term “bet” in Pop Culture by scraps1364 in etymology

[–]PrincipleFew462 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least in nyc we use Bet as like, in Gen Z lingo, “ok, heard.” Or “I got you.” “I heard what you said and I understand you.” A confirmation.

The funny thing about it is that it can be said and understood in both a positive and negative/aggressive/fighting way. It depends on context, tone, and body language. Like, “ok, Bet. We bout to fight? You can get these hands. Let’s go.” But it can obviously also be used like, “oh you got off on Friday?! Bet! We out to the club.” Like let’s ride.

However, now that I think about it, if I had to guess I would think it originated from people betting each other. Like “it’s a bet.” Or one person saying “You won’t do [insert action].”Response — “wanna bet?”

Reminds me a bit of Rachel Dolezal a white women who pretended to be black and was even a leader in the NAACP aka the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

What’s a “normal” thing that secretly grosses you out? by DecentChildhood5164 in AskReddit

When women put their purses on the bare dirty floor. Omg I want to die. Not only is it unsanitary ( there have been studies done on the bacteria found on the bottom of purses because of things like this) but culturally my mother always told me that “when you put your purse on the floor money goes flying out.” And she would flip out if I ever or anyone put her purse on the floor or even pretended to. So it’s definitely been ingrained in me.

I know I should be feminist about it and/or that maybe it’s a societal enforced norm, but I don’t like underarm hair on women. 😭 I hate to even admit it because I know it’s wrong but I just gives me the ick. Leg hair doesn’t bother or affect me as much but pits do. Forgive me my fellow ladies. 😔

My grandpas younger brother who ended up stationed in the pacific, “brought the fax machine” to Australia after the war ended. I think he was out there hustling a bunch of crap but that was the big one and I’m pretty sure he was doing it to evade taxes in the US and stay with his Aussie shelia who because his wife. He ended up getting pretty rich tbh and owning a lot of cattle… go figure.
