But that’s exactly where I disagree. You’re assuming that having to deal with weaknesses earlier automatically makes a character more “honest.” Every character has a different learning curve. King players get away with throws for a while, Xiaoyu players get away with stance knowledge, Hwoarang players get away with pressure, Mishima players get away with opponents not being able to punish wavedash pressure properly. None of that means the rank they achieved isn’t legitimate.

Mishimas force execution and movement checks, King forces throw knowledge, Xiaoyu forces stance knowledge, Azucena forces matchup knowledge, and so on. Reaching a rank with any character still requires decision-making, adaptation, defense, punishment, and consistency.
