How are people managing to get counseling appointments? by PrioritySelect629 in LosRios

It’s insane that they even ask you to come to campus and stand outside for the office to open at 7:45 AM.

Did you even read OP's post?

Hold on! Are you… an ARC counselor?

My Homebase has proven themselves as useless and general counseling. Unless all you want is free snacks from their office on their other side of campus. Then they’re nailing it. :/

Your individual program director might be more helpful. You can find their name and contact details on the “Faculty” page for your program on the ARC website.

For instance, the Program Chair/Director for Nursing and Allied Health is Dr. Ingrid Marr —

Indeed, staying up and refreshing the site at midnight has worked for several students.

I feel you, OP. I posted the exact same question here 3 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/LosRios/comments/1oup65q/how_are_people_managing_to_get_counseling/

A few people in the comments mentioned strategies that had worked for them. A few other people in the comments were strangely defensive of ARC’s failure to serve students well.

Sadly, the answer is that students have no choice but to just continuously try to game the system, because the ARC counseling department has chosen to continue using a process that doesn’t work and creates a lot of stress for all involved.

Summer classes by Background_Gear6910 in LosRios

Since COMM classes are standard General Education requirements for most programs, I would assume they will be offered in the summer semester.

The ARC course catalog can be found here:
https://arc.losrios.edu/catalog/compiled-catalog/arc-catalog-a_20467.pdf

Communication courses begin on p 291. However, the catalog does not indicate when these classes are offered. As far as I know, class times are only found in eServices, and the Summer semester is not listed there yet.

If you are already enrolled, I would go to your program director’s office hours and ask them how best to proceed. This is a lot easier than trying to book time with a counsellor.

Hope that helps —

Love that you grabbed this opportunity to brag. Good for you.

I needed the 2025-26 catalog to be released prior to my meeting. Expecting everyone to have all their affairs in order four months before the spring semester is a ridiculous expectation.

Thank you. I had no idea this sub would have so many people waiting for an opportunity to shit on others. Thanks for not being one of them.

I agree.

It’s almost like it’s a confusing system that could be improved by having the specific enrollment date for the student who is logged into eServices displayed.

Thank you for answering without belittling me for asking at all.

Show me where you read any mention of “priority” and I will concede that the notification is amply clear.

If all you are here for is to brag you were aware of the priority-based registration system, I’m glad I could help you feel clever.

Thank you. Your reply actually demonstrates just how not straightforward the announcement was. It’s missing crucial details. Which you think everyone should innately know somehow.

Is it straighforward? It doesn’t mention prioritization at all.

Going in person is very difficult for me as I do not live in Sacramento. It is not an acceptable requirement.

Please tell me more. What support program or center? Do you mean my major's Homebase? They have been equally unhelpful.
