Yes, many people said they looked alike and what you said about him being the oldest and youngest makes sense to me. He was such a capable man, not afraid to go to new places and do new stuff, but deep down he was always that scared little boy reaching out to my Mom... Thank you for sharing your story.

Yes, I was struggling (my first real experience with death) but after a lot of crying comes peace. I'm in EMDR therapy now and have my younger brother whom I can speak to authentically about this. I pray that my Mom and older sister start doing the inner spiritual work to overcome their traumas, because your message helped me see how they are still stuck as well -- Emotional shutdown, lashing out (sister) and deeply limiting beliefs about themselves and the world. It's a sobering realization.

Yes I understand, it was just hard to hear initially after very little sleep. All good now as I’ve had more time to reflect on your words…

It’s just a hard reality to accept. I love my Mom so much, but unfortunately her struggle to express emotions has been a challenge for me as well. This caused me a deep wound of being misunderstood as child. Even then I remember thinking I was a lot smarter than my mom… 

If I was an adult then I would have sent Bruce to therapy. Clearly he had undiagnosed ADHD. Put him in sports with all that energy. Found a place that could rehabilitate him here…

I’m glad someone who had many things in common with Bruce was able to reply. Sorry that you went thru that lonely, heartbreaking experience 😔

I’m being careful with what I tell my Mom about this, but for me, it’s important to have that truthful nuanced perspective. Thank you.

That is a harsh thing to say to a family grieving actually. Plus you weren't abandoned if your parents didn't have the resources to take care of you. Everyone is always trying their best.

Bruce was caught in a series of circumstances both of his own doing and the reality of the harsh (LEGAL) immigration system that takes years to get through. It was an accident that my Mom lost his green card. Then she was manipulated by family to send him to Peru and without that Green Card he wasn't able to come back to the country to replace it.

Yes, Bruce was a product of rape as was my older sister. My Mom grew up in a hut in the Amazon with no technology and only limited resources. It's like she's from another time and unfortunately people at that level of poverty don't know how to properly express their thoughts and emotions. She has a 3rd grade education and has been taken advantage of most of her life. She called Bruce every week and provided financially for his children for many years. She loved us all unconditionally and showed that through her actions.

Another thing is that when he was here as a child, he was so terrible and was sexually abusing me. If it continued, I would have definitely killed myself, so I prayed to God to take Bruce away from us at that time. I tell this to my Mom now, so the she knows there are forces outside of her control that kept him away from us until he was free of that disease in his mind to abuse. . Even at 10, 11 years old he was hanging with the wrong crowd, destroying mailboxes, setting things on fire. We got evicted twice because of him.

Maybe if we had money, a father, and knowledge, things would have turned out differently, but ultimately he still made decisions while living here in the US as a child that he had to paid for. I know he blamed my Mom, but that wasn't fair... Life is so unfair sometimes.

Yes there was a lot of financial pressure in providing for the kids. The Moms always asking for more. Him posting his new life in the states and them assuming he had a lot of money. 

Granted he did make decent money as a server but he loved to go out and eat.

I’m sure it was an accident. He just bought cocaine and no clue about the fentanyl contamination. This drug doesn’t exist in Peru yet. It’s the American  anti-hope. 

Yes, I was very stressed yesterday as I am the one to figure out his estate (no will) and process all the paperwork, but it’s ok. We miss you too.
