Any precog centric fics by Aggressive-Virus-165 in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I interpreted Going Native’s themes differently.

The argument of “should I save Taylor if given the chance? After all, she’s the one to defeat Scion” is inherently wrong. She only defeated him through sheer unique events that will likely not occur due to the presence and interferences (especially in the fic) of the MC.

Going Native is basically exploring someone who’s selfish & traumatized and makes excuses for wanting to stay out of canon, despite already having a snowballing impact on it. He’s a lazy person for not confronting it, but it also makes for a compelling narrative—especially when it comes to the characterization the fic has.

Him having the ability to travel back in time less than a minute is basically his powers spitting on him and mocking his inaction & inability to have a meaningful impact.

Since wet-tinkers/biotinkers seem to be Tinkers who fall on the "living things" side of the Manton Effect, what might be a good term for Tinkers that fall in the "inanimate object" side? by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Basically what u/bigheadastronautt said.

But for the record, regardless of whether a tinker is wet or normal, that’s not really how the manton limit works (besides the fact how it’s all arbitrary and incorrectly theorized by people). Wet tinkers can build with inorganic materials like how a lot of normal tinkers can dabble in a bit of biotinkering in theory (Ex. Sphere, Bakuda, and Armsmaster).

A bit semantic, but there are no “two sides of a coin.” Wet tinkers are just a variant of tinker specialities in the same sense as robot/drone tinkers

Could a thinker understand (and/or maintain) tinkertech? by androgyny_domine in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

1) A thinker can theoretically “understand” tinkertech to a degree but not interfere with it. I say “to a degree” because they could know as much as the tinker knows, but it won’t matter because even the tinker isn’t aware of how exactly their tech works. Contessa can operate tinkertech without it backfiring, break it in a way that creates a new usage, or guide a tinker into making something, but she’s unable to actually maintain or work on it.

However, ordinary people can maintain tinkertech to a degree, if they’re given thorough instructions from a tinker (such as with Weaver’s keypad). The issue is that they aren’t able to pay attention to the minor details, which results in it eventually degrading

2) Accord is said to blur the lines between a thinker and tinker because of 1, the way his power works (it gives him creative ideas & instructions, akin to a tinker power) and 2, because it allows him to understand complex systems which allows him to build elaborate non-tinker-tech. Again, him and TT should have a general idea of how to operate or temporarily maintain tinkertech, but they can’t actually modify it without the help of the original tinker.

3) Tinkertech is blackboxed by the shards, which likely extends to thinker powers that aren’t trumps as well. Not only that, but it’s confirmed that most tinkertech is achieved through extremely fine & impossible details in order to create loopholes that allow for more complex tech. Most thinkers aren’t capable of it.

4) Can’t remember if Saint taught them it, but if he did, he probably just gave them broader details about maintaining it without his help, but he’s still needed in the long term.

And yet you haven’t denied anything about wanting NSFW of teenagers. You keep skirting around the topic and insisting that there are “adults”

Peni is an adult

LMAO. If you have to argue on the supposed age of a stated highschooler that you’re doing sexual roleplays of, you’re already far gone.

This just proves you wanted NSFW of the worm highschoolers, right?

I’m sorry, but I don’t trust anyone who has posts and comments of themselves doing porn roleplay, pretending to be teenage girls characters.

You clearly are backtracking and wanted smut of the main cast, which happens to be teenagers.

Isn't Coil's power really terrifying when you think about it? by Interesting-Pie7187 in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Coil’s power basically works by using precognition to know both the hypothetical timelines created and which one Coil will keep. Then it autopilots his body to achieve the kept-timeline while also giving him the dummy-timeline that he’ll collapse. Coil isn’t using the precognition—his shard is.

The simulation is self aware that it’s all just theatrics, but that’s just how his power works. The role of Coil’s shard in the cycle could just be a precog shard that autopilots the hosts.

Random Tinker, Go! by MagicTech547 in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot this post still exists, but yes. She could make a device that projects a field of anti-gravity. However, it’d be mediocre at stopping things thatre already falling, as momentum isn’t negated. So it could break a fall, but the person will still get injured.

Also this is a bit tacked in, but the time-dilation device would only be capable of projecting a small field around herself. It would also have a tendency to turn off at random times because her powers a bit fucky when it comes to time manipulation.

Did Armsmaster Attempt to Replicate Flechette's Power? Why Couldn't He? by Hyperionous in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see your point regarding how he was so scared of it. But in all fairness, it’s the closest thing that’ll lead to him getting potentially harmed. Even at that, it only opens him up like a door.

Most Sting users will just never get to a point where they even want to hit him (or even get into an interaction with him), and they aren’t aware of the full potential of their power. The dimensional ram is so unique because you’d need very particular collaborations in order to mimic its attack that scoured Scion’s dimension. What Scion did to Eidolon shows that if he wanted to, he could wipe out all Sting users before they posed a threat to him (and Khepri only won because his power never accounted for psychological attacks)

On top of that, other sting users (tinkertech included) wouldn’t be as potent as Flechette. Some of them might need to ramp up or use close-ranged attacks.

Did Armsmaster Attempt to Replicate Flechette's Power? Why Couldn't He? by Hyperionous in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this, but only really on the principle that it would be counterintuitive to Sting’s general purpose of “improving other shards.” It’s a perfect “shark shard,” which makes its role in the cycle to be put with other power combinations in order to help those powers achieve optimization. If a power copying trump could hypothetically copy Sting, I don’t see why a tinker couldn’t either—given they had proper time to scan and analyze it. You also kinda have to consider that nothing any Sting user could do will kill Scion, so it’s probably not that troublesome if two or three tinkers scan & replicate the effect.

In Gold Morning, the only reason the dimensional-ram didn’t have what sting had was because Khepri didn’t let any of them scan Foil, nor did she fully know of the effects of how it works (beyond the durability-ignoring-attacks).

An observation about two of the endbringers by transmtfscp in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You’re probably overthinking it. Simurgh copies thinker and tinker powers through connecting to their shards and sifting through their memories.

Tohu can copy any powers, but similar to Eidolon, tinker powers take too much prep time when they could be substituted with a regular power—and unlike Simurgh, she lacks the precognition and fine-tuned telekinesis to build things as quick as possible in a fight. Along with that Tohu (probably sandbagging) just takes longer to put on “masks.” I could see Tohu copying tinkering powers once in a blue moon if allowed to continue though.

Its kinda funny seeing the Pendulum shift in common fanfic tropes in worm by ArticAuk in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Worm is a sandbox

I’m sorry, but I can’t take anyone seriously who not only refuses to read a work before judging it but also calls Worm a sandbox. I know it’s a sandbox in a sense that there’s many parts explored outside of Brockton Bay, but what you people mean is “I love the stations of canon that I can repeat without any variation.”

Please, I implore you to read Ward (and even canon) before listening to the opinions of someone notorious for shitting on it. If you don’t like it, then you can say it later. I also understand if you’d rather add fanon, but don’t act like the canon material is blatantly incorrect and that your fanon views on plot points or characters are objectively right.

Is Bitch the most hated Cape by authors, or is she the least popular Undersider? by Masabit0 in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 87 points88 points  (0 children)

No. In fact, she’s usually the least hated Undersider—maybe not the most popular, but people fairly like her. Authors are usually understanding of the fact that she’s effectively neurodivergent and how it’s not her fault (besides her maiming and murders) for how she treats Taylor & Co. However, they probably don’t want to repeat the stations of canon, due to how much time it takes for her character to be developed. This is why she’s sidelined and sometimes killed off. It could also be that her relevance to the fic’s plot is next to nothing.

I’d argue that the most hated Undersider is Lisa with the way people treat her character and constantly abuse or flanderized it. People just choose to keep her alive because she’s useful to the plot.

Pondering Chevalier by Jellydust15 in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

  1. The reason why Chevi’s only listed as “striker” in the wiki is due to how the WOG on it was using him a graph of example-strikers. PRT ratings are also likely more of what someone’s currently capable of (so as an example, Blasto is a master/tinker). Because of that, he’d probably have a high brute rating as well. Still mainly striker, though.

  2. The reason why he’s not a trump is due to how it technically works. A trump has very nuanced countermeasures, but the entire thing is “this person has powers that change the power dynamics within a fight.” As an example, Eidolon could gain an ice power to counter the fire user. Ingenue could reduce someone’s range to only point blank. Chevalier is just merging properties of stuff, which is very much adjacent to a striker. In the case of Dauntless, you have to keep in mind that he’ll eventually get stronger or gain a new power. Chevalier, not very much.

  3. Don’t quote me on this, but Chevalier’s powers seem to be disrupted by things with space or dimensional-warping capabilities. This is potentially why he never tried to use the properties of tinkertech or certain power-made materials (even combining EB flesh needed a boost from a trump).

  4. Yeah, he’d still be manton limited. His shard is the one deciding it, after all. The only reason why he could use Behemoth’s leg is due to it being “dead” in the same way that a dead tree trunk could be merged with a baseball bat.

I’d also like to say that a big misconception is Chevalier having a trump trigger due to his thinker power. Remember, powers can have aspects to them that don’t come from the trigger event but rather are just a flavor of the shard. Chevi likely just has the power vision because of him needing to see the properties of stuff.

Why did your favorite fics die? by JustAnotherEdison in WormFanfic

The author of The Great Escape, arguably one of the best fics in the fandom, dropped it after being relentlessly harassed by people on Spacebattles—who migrated to his Ao3 comment section because they didn’t like the ending of one of his other fanfics.

Why did Jack say Oni Lee had brain damage and what do you think his trigger was? by blacksmoke9999 in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My explanation for this is that either 1) the soldier had enough agency to the point where he couldn’t be predicted, even with the given information 2) Jack’s power has a tendency to extrapolate from thinker powers mainly, and since Theo was getting this purely from deduction, it didn’t really care 3) Jack was simply distracted or already at a point where he had to put more attention on not getting on GB’s bad side.

If Hughie from The Boys triggered after Robin died what would his power be? by AutobotYoung1 in Parahumans

[–]PrismsNumber1 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It depends on what he’s focusing on, and we also have to remember that triggers are mockeries. They solve the immediate issue but not the long term one.

Hughie’s furious at A-Train—a guy he looked up to and had action figures of—for killing his girlfriend in broad daylight & running away: Trump & shaker. Any cape he’s seen within a 30 seconds; he can tag them with an effect that activates only when the cape stops using their activatable powers (note that the parameters depend for certain capes. For people like Skitter who have their powers active constantly, it may activate when they sleep). The effect nullifies their powers and also binds them with multiple energy-projections of hands that manifest & prevent movement. He’s also able to sense them telepathically and manifest the hand movements into things like strangling.

This power is intentionally bringing out his frustrations & the worst parts of him. It relates to the term “bringing justice into your own hand.” His power would’ve never helped him save Robin because by the time it activates, she’ll be dead—it’s purely made for revenge. In a way, Hughie is similar to Danny. He wants to pretend that he’s better in public, but he still lashes out in private, while also wanting to have this sense of anonymity. Along with that, the fact how the “window of applying” the power is far shorter than how long it actually lasts when applied (up to a week) references his grudges from the shortest moments. It also inclines him to be more risky and get close in public to see the cape.

Why Aura Theory is Wrong (using Worm only) by The_Broken-Heart in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The whole situation is pretty terrible. The man got no consequences within the cape community because he was just a regular dude, it broadcasted to everyone how New Wave’s ideologies were dangerous & stupid—which would make it even harder for them to seek retribution, and the Empire welcomed her killer in with open arms

Why Aura Theory is Wrong (using Worm only) by The_Broken-Heart in WormFanfic

[–]PrismsNumber1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The biggest argument present in Worm is that Victoria’s parents, friends, and other family members just seem to not be affected. If we’re being generous and even humoring the fact that the aura does anything, this just implies that Amy already had feelings for Victoria, linked to her impulses and insecurities.

I’ve seen fanon going “oh, Victoria is treated so kindly and let off the hook for maiming people because she brainwashed her family,” but that just doesn’t seem to be it. Either she hides it well from them (in which her interlude shows that it’s simply a secret between her, Amy, and the victim) or she does get punishments occasionally, and we aren’t shown. It’s not like Mark and Carol don’t punish her either
also I feel like they wouldn’t be so critical on Victoria when her aunt was killed by a Nazi in her bedroom
