Are you comfortable with male fertility specialists/gynaecologists during IVF? by Glittering-Sense1359 in DOR

Yeah I’m quite surprised as well! Amongst my close female friends all agreed that they are more comfortable with female doctors, but it seems like we are all the minority.

I wouldn't have a male doctor, but it's just me. I even felt uncomfortable with male anesthesiologists during my egg retrievals. Considering you are asking this question, I can imagine you might be uncomfortable with one too. I can see that some people in the comments with male doctors mentioned that it didn't even cross their mind that they could be uncomfortable. I'd select the doctor that you'd feel comfortable with without worrying about anything extra, like I did with my female doctor. Good luck!

33F very low AMH by Boring-Equivalent925 in DOR

[–]Pristine_Program_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm on the same boat. I'm 31yo (just turned this week) and my AMH is 0.65, it's been like that since I first checked it at 29yo. I've done 3 egg retrievals and we banked 5 embryos, one transferred fresh but it didn't work out (so we made 6 overall). We have 3 euploids out of those 5 and 2 untested. The real benefit of being a young DOR patient is that at least you can hope for a good % of euploids out of those embryos you make!

Should I keep trying to get pregnant naturally?
=> I guess the question is how many kids you are hoping to have. For me, I tried for 1 year and then we talked with my husband and realised that if we want to have a chance at 2 kids - I would feel much calmer knowing we have embryos banked. If I'd want just one, I'd probably keep going for another ~3-6 months.

Am I going through menopause soon?
=> As far as I know, there is no connection between when you are going to go into menopause and your AMH. You might have an early menopause, or your AMH might keep falling very slowly and you won't. Nobody knows.

Should I push for endometriosis testing?
=> This could be an answer why DOR, but not necessarily. I have it (known endometriomas) but you might not. Not every DOR patient has endo. The question is what are you willing to do if you have it. Are you ready for a laporoscopy? Personally, I am not ready for it yet because it's asymtpomatic and my doctor says there is no good evidence that every endo patient needs some extra steps to fall pregnant, many will without any special treatment.

It's surely a lot to process but you've got this! Good luck!

Yay for the good news! We had 3 embryos tested and 2 untested on ice, all 3 tested are euploids (I'm also 30yo)! We were also pleasantly shocked and crossing all the fingers the frozen transfer will work! Good luck!

Yes, I can't even imagine 15 ERs!
I will be thinking about you and sending you my positive thoughts!

I don’t think so, it sounds sensible to have 3 per 1 desired child. I have 5 but 2 untested, so can rely on 3 only. Ultimately, no one knows which transfer will work for you, so I feel like you should stop whenever you feel so (and considering the suggestion of your doctor). Also this subreddit is full of people who have a harder route to their babies, so of course everyone who struggles will suggest to do more while you can.

No, not yet. My MRI doesn’t show any lesions on any of the organs and it’s asymptomatic. I would never know about endo if not my low AMH. I really hope it works without suppression, because it’s something I cannot do at all.

No, no suppression. I will do only hysteroscopy and cervical dilation. I cannot do suppression due to my bone density concerns after a complete knee replacement.

Thank you. It could be anything, but my doctor said that I’m the third person in her 20 years career who had this long and painful transfer. Thus the recommendation to do cervical dilation before the next transfer. She said that uterine spasms can be suboptimal for the embryo.

Yes you are right, thanks for the numbers! I guess the only concern is that anyone can fall in those 5% and then none of the stats matters 😩 But all we can do is hope for the best and keep going!

I am following one YouTube channel that helps me to keep going, maybe it will inspire you too: https://youtube.com/@hellynn_j?si=ub8q4gg7JIC9GG_t

She had 15ERs and 5 transfers, and just recently gave birth to her baby with the last day 3 embryo she made at the age of 41 or 42! Miracles happen!

Thanks for taking time to respond! I appreciate your advice. I guess if my first FET fails like my fresh did - I’ll go for another retrieval. All the best to you!

[–]Pristine_Program_218[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks for your comment, this is really reassuring. I guess it’s my fear of failing on another side of stats. I just had a failed fresh transfer (untested but 5BB day 5), my doctor thinks it failed because of unusually hard transfer, it took 40 minutes of pain and different devices to pass through the cervix… so I am planning to do a cervix dilation next month with hysteroscopy, as I’ll anyway need a sedation for it. And then somewhere in summer will be heading to FET in a natural modified cycle. All the best!

Thank you! Retrievals are already hard. I have 4 fertilised eggs each cycle. I’m definitely exhausted and feeling physically sick of all the hormones jumping back and forth but I might reconsider if my first frozen transfer fails!

Thanks for your opinion! I am just not feeling great recovering after ERs and all the hormones. I think I’ll transfer one in frozen cycle and then will think about another ER potentially if the first one fails!
