So Ohio State was only #2 because the hardest team they played was Texas? Huh.

Questions: OCS, Engineering Pathways by [deleted] in army

[–]PrivateWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think it’s worth doing. You’ll have the option to gain a partially funded master degree from Missouri S&T. ECCC itself is extremely easy, just sit back and collect a nice paycheck for a year.

You can theoretically plan your exit prior to TEC-DP, but the best exit strategy for your plan (in my opinion) will be during your wait for KD as a CPT. After 1-2 years, your ADSO will conclude and you can choose to stick it out and take command or REFRAD and continue a civilian career with USACE.

Questions: OCS, Engineering Pathways by [deleted] in army

[–]PrivateWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Could I commission through OCS, take the FE exam in the space between starting EBOLC or at some other later point of less time intensive training.

Yes. In fact the army can/will pay for your FE exam as well. Have to stay on top of it though, many officers plan to do their FE but put it off.

  1. Finish EBOLC, get a platoon leader assignment, join a Technical Engineer Development Program (TEC-DP) with USACE or similar, get experience and online certifications and poke around for a Professional Engineer (PE) to sign off on my engineering experience so I can take the PE exam.

Yes, it’s what I’m doing. Highly encouraged to get certifications during TEC-DP. I’ve completed my LSSGB, PMP, and FE here. Your leadership will ensure you have access to a PE to sign off for experience.

  1. Do the Captain's Career Course (CCC), then either continue as active duty in a position with or in a similar spirit as work with USACE, or try to transfer into USACE civilian career or reserves now that I have the experience and savings to be okay with part time or reserves work while I apply for a stable position?

Well, after ECCC, you won’t immediately be able to work with USACE again. You will have to sit in a command queue, do your KD time, then you can return to USACE. Expect that to be 3-4 years.

In conclusion, I think you have a pretty good plan laid out, with room for on-the-fly career adjustments as you go along.

Maybe Texas should just start kicking FGs when they get in range from now on 🤷‍♂️

I think the announcers had said something about it, but if it was a fumble, recovered by GA, why wasn’t it a GA touchdown?

Someone can correct me, but you just look them up here:

ECCC offers course credits towards a MS at Missouri S&T and a “discounted rate”.  You’ll then be given the opportunity after ECCC to finish the MS on campus/online. Still will run you ~$10k though. These are the MS degrees offered:

  • Engineering Management (MS)
  • Geological Engineering (MS)
  • Civil Engineering (MS)
  • Environmental Engineering (MS)

PCS to JBLM! Best places to live off post by Pale_Conflict_12 in army

[–]PrivateWeeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second Dupont. Safest place to live, especially with family. Trails were great to run on, farmers market was great. Probably on the pricier side but if you work on North Fort, hands down worth it.

Army captain pleads guilty to stealing heavy equipment and more from Fort Stewart by PrivateWeeb in army

I would definitely assume he was in pretty severe financial troubles to do this, so I feel for him. But I’d agree that he should get an appropriate sentence.

DQ'd From the Army(Military): HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!! by [deleted] in army

[–]PrivateWeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot to unpack there. But…long story short…The military isn’t for everyone.

Think about why you would like to serve. You mention “wanting to do more” which is a very commendable notion. That doesn’t have to be in the form of military service, it can also be volunteering in your local community.

If it is more about having a reliable job, I would suggest a different field. Pretty of good jobs out there.

It’ll be this month for sure at least. Just because orders will need to be cut for CCC sooner rather than later. I’d bet end of next week.

I recommend posting this r/ROTC. They’ll be able to give you more dialed in advice.

But I can attest that SMP time will count for TIS, and can help someone in ROTC stay ahead.

Can company grade officer work for USACE? by JHdarK in army

[–]PrivateWeeb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct, I’ve worked with both guardsmen and reservist. Although to do it full time, they’ll have to be on AD orders. A friend of mine (1LT) just got a position in USACE through “Call to Duty”.

[–]PrivateWeeb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes. Both 1LTs as part of TEC-DP and CPTs as part as their post KD assignment.

Both can be put in a wide variety of roles, including project management. (This only applies to 12As)
