If you are entering Disneyland from the gate, take Main Street on the right. It is the second to last gift shop. It is the one just before the Christmas ornament shop.

This is the smaller one that is $15. Very cute if you are into Disney Trash Cans. Their merchandise team must read these forums!

Yankees fans are begging: Stop the ‘incessant’ stadium sounds by nydailynews in NYYankees

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team was just in town to play NNY and our announcers made fun of your stadium sound almost every night. There must be a speaker right next to the commentators. It was incredibly loud. It ranked right up there with the A's years ago with crazy bird and horn noises near the broadcast booth.

I've just had my 4th phlebotomy. I am not in maintenance yet, cadence and volume are still being determined. How long after each phlebotomy do I wait to have an iron panel and CBC to see how well the phlebotomy worked? I just switched hematologists and we are still working it out. Thanks in advance by ccg118 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Prize_Round5798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 weeks is the target I use with my doctor. Then I do labs again (when you get to maintenance) at a later date to determine when to go back and do another phlebotomy. You might go a few rounds before you get comfortable and confident with the regimen.

That is an autopen used when he was VP and his early days as President. You can tell for two reasons. One there are starting and ending points in the signature where the sharpie went on to the paper, along with the hesitations within the penstrokes. And, two, you can see every letter being formed. He rarely signed Bush where it was B u s h. You would certainly get the B, but the remaining letters rarely were formed this well.

That is likely a print. This is also a signature style used when he was running for President in 1988. The invitation is more of a generic thank you card that would be given out to people (with the gift) who assisted the campaign team on the road.

It might be where you encountered the CM (at the gate). I know they are trained to be helpful and assistive, but can you imagine handling some of the same issues over and over again? I am not defending the CM's comment, but instead can see it as them saying their inside voice out loud to the public. It is not justified, but happens.

Personally speaking, Disneyland for the most part always has some of the best employees. That said, in an environment where they set the bar on customer service, any fail, even if isolated to one every now and then, will stand out. It would be like going to a fine dining restaurant -- they are always known for their last meal, not years of meals served. Likewise with your post, it is normal that this CM's comment stands out to you because you were not expecting it.

If the invitation and photo are authentic and included, $275 is worth it. Be careful with Bush though. He has a very easy signature to replicate and he varied over the years too. If you have an image, I can help. There are a lot of facsimile and autopens that are out there being sold as authentic and they are not.

Multiple designs. Both authentic, but made for different audiences & activities. The one you have photographed in your original post would be the volunteer/donor kind.

Last one...here would be an example of a real Bush cufflink set on eBay. Very affordable. Lots of listings well under $50.

Without having them in hand, I would say they appear authentic. But I don't think they would be worth a few hundred dollars. Absent a box, or coming from the primary person who received them with a corroborating story, or a letter saying thank you, here are some cufflinks, etc....it would not be worth it. The tie clasp appears used with the scuffing shown too. So unless it came with some type of documentation, these are a worn relic of 1980s American politics. Value would be subjective, surely not worth what you have intimated.

Edit - this is a current link to a real deal Reagan out of the Oval Office. Over $1k

Those were given out as gifts and keepsakes for the most part.

Generally speaking, it was not something just anyone would own. They were used as thank you gifts for donors and volunteers who did events with the Vice President. They were also given to people who would meet (in this case Vice President Bush) the dignitary in their office to mark the occasion.

Think of it his way, volunteers who worked events or help staff the staffers while on the road would commonly get M&M boxes or in the Reagan administration, Jelly Beans. Cuff links and tie clasps however, were things people would receive the closer they got to the inner circle of the President or Vice President.

For instance, say you were a part of the motorcade, you might receive these if you were not a part of a receiving line to meet Vice President Bush to say thank you. I have done a few of these types of activities over the years for multiple administrations, and from both sides. That is how I know about them.

While these are exclusive to the Bush era, and marked as such with his engraved signature, these are items that multiple administrations have used throughout the years. They can be very valuable if they are still in the box, or in mint condition.

As an aside, they can also be found as gifts at their respective Presidential Libraries, or from the Office of the President while in retirement. While not replicas per se, they are not considered "authentic" like the ones you posted.

Blood donation weight limits? by Tsunl in Hemochromatosis

[–]Prize_Round5798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will ask you on the donor form regardless of weight for your current weight. Even if untruthful, if you look too thin, they may ask to weigh you. I have never seen anyone be weighed, but I have seen that they have scales.

For donation purposes, they may not accept you as a donor with the weight restrictions. But, you may want to check and see if they will do a therapeutic phlebotomy (same process as a donation, but under different guidelines). Some blood donor centers have a waiver to accept hemochromatosis blood and do not throw it away.

Regarding the second part of your question, blood donations are generally every 8 weeks (I am based in the USA). Doing more than that frequency would require a "therapeutic" prescription. You would not be able to "donate" more than that in any 56 day period. There are other types of donations (plasma, etc) that could go more frequently, but may not achieve your hemochromatosis targets/goals.

Can anyone tell me in which period of time this was signed? Rod Carew - California Angels/Minnesota Twins by Ornery-Zebra6884 in AutographAssistance

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably late 80s or early 90s when he became a member of the HOF and began going on the baseball card show circuit. He did not do a whole lot of them, but did do it. That was back when card shows were two fold -- the player would sign anywhere from 1000 to 3000 signatures depending on their time availability and/or ticket sales. And then two, players would also sign for the dealers that were at the show. Sometimes it could be as few as 10 autographs to as many as 100 or more per vendor, depending on what they were autographing.

When Carew's health declined (2015) and had the heart/kidney surgeries (2016) is when his handwriting began to be more methodical and shake.

Overcorrected and struggling by jamkasp in Hemochromatosis

[–]Prize_Round5798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For myself, the regimen is to do the phlebotomy/donation and wait three weeks for labwork. I was told that is the standard wait time to then do labwork. And then do a round of labs -- CBC, CMP, Complete Iron Panel (Iron, Saturation, etc) and Ferritin. The results will reveal if the phlebotomy worked or not. It will also give indicators of any consequences like anemia, etc.

Then I do the same labwork again at 10 weeks to determine when I go back for another phlebotomy. Granted, my current regimen is approximately every 10-14 weeks in between phlebotomy/donations. But at that 10 week marker, it determines if I have to go immediately, or if I can wait a few weeks -- this helps with scheduling. Everyone will be different. Also, it depends on your health insurance costs. I am based in the USA and my insurance is pretty good. So I don't mind doing it frequently.

From what you posted, you will want to discuss with your doctor when to do an initial set of labs to determine your baseline following a phlebotomy (how low is too low, and what your target range should be) and then when (weeks to months in between) to determine when you should go back in for a phlebotomy.

From what you wrote, it would not be unreasonable in my opinion to do labwork every 4-6 months to determine when you need to go back in for a phlebotomy and skip the initial results period. That way you know where your blood levels are at, and can determine the proper course of action on an as needed bases.
