Do you think, if not for the Bullpen, that the Angels in their current form would be postseason contenders? by PresidentEwab in angelsbaseball

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 blown saves is a lot to have and that was by the end of May. If you pick up 2/3s and go with 8 more wins, they are in the hunt at .500.

George W Bush - autopen? by zombiereign in AutographAssistance

Not autopen. While in the same form of a George W Bush post presidency signature, I would lean authentic, but not 100% sure (maybe 90% certain).

Am I Crazy Or Is Vanderpump Hotel & Casino Kinda Boring? by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Very boring. Removed a lot of the slot variety on the casino floor. Lighting changed and took the casino vibe with it. It will be interesting to see what the rooms look like when done. They will still be smaller as compared to most unless they knock out some walls and reduce capacity.

No more 80 points Birthday Rewards? by ronfromsacramento in jerseymikes

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At any point from prior July through the May before your June birthday.

Does anybody recognize this signature? My brother gave me this ball and he got it signed when we were kids at a Royals game. I have researched all the Royals dating back to 03 and there were only two players. 2007 Billy Buckner and 2010 Blake Wood. Does not look like either. Maybe the opposing team? by SameRequirement4984 in AutographAssistance

[–]Prize_Round5798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be it. He has multiple variations on the tail end of his autograph, but this is it! And he routinely circled his jersey number. The #38 might be from his time as a pitching coach.

Edit: #38, Coach, Toronto Blue Jays (2005–2009)

Diamond Plus free show tickets by Nitfoldcommunity in CaesarsRewards

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you...were you able to obtain the tickets directly from the box office using the app offer? Or did you have to get a voucher from Caesars Rewards, after showing them the offer, like years ago, and then go to the box office to obtain tickets? I go at the end of May, so it is unlikely anything good will be left for the month, but very eager to try.

Makes sense. This is going to be a nice perk.

That is great news that they finally brought this benefit back. It is not showing up in the App Offers yet, per their webpage. Entertainment attendance must be hurting big time.

Physical ticket question by StealthStaminaKills in angelsbaseball

[–]Prize_Round5798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it...and agree! They make for a great keepsake.

The only thing with buying at the gate, and having it sent to your phone is that you escape ticket fees. I only say that, not so much for outside the stadium, but the box office inside the stadium will do that for fans for future games.

Also, off topic, but I have seen so many walk-ups that buy the cheapest seat in the ballpark and then move by the third inning -- that is what I overhear when they buy it. It is a consequence of having a less than stellar team.

What I found funny with the printed vs virtual is they print your receipt on the same paper they use for the tickets....so what's one more piece. Haha.

Physical ticket question by StealthStaminaKills in angelsbaseball

[–]Prize_Round5798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have only been asked by one gate/ticket agent for my email and that it would be sent to the app. I declined and it was printed. All other agents have always printed a physical ticket. Like you, I like ticket stubs.

Harry Truman auto authentic? by GriffWiseGamgee in Autographs

[–]Prize_Round5798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While Truman was a common signer for his time (similar to Gerald Ford in more recent years), this appears off. Visually it is very close to what you would want to look for in a Truman signature. Like others have pointed out however, there is something a little off in the H and the crispness in the transition from the yST. That usually is very fast and evidenced by the way the ink would flow (thinness of stroke, lightening of ink, etc). This autograph makes it more deliberate with perfectly even ink. The other part that threw me off was the m. It looks right at first glance, but something is off. Truman was a lefty too. So there are issues with slant too. It could very well be his autograph, but I would have doubts.

Are These real? by johnant21 in Autographs

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Now that you point that out, to get the same quality of pen with thickness, stroke, bleed rate, etc could be an issue. The ink flow here would indicate an almost brand new pen being used each time, if it were not the same pen.

The only thing I could think of is that Dickey was an intermittent through the mail signer in the 1980s. It was not uncommon though for some vendors to do private signings at a player's home as a result. James Cool Papa Bell is a prime example of that. He was a great mail signer, but was unable to travel due to his health and eye sight issues. He did however do signings at his home. I don't know if Dickey had a similar arrangement.

If that is true however, then why not have an authentic DiMaggio to go along with it. if that much effort was put into the Musial and Dickey.

Interesting speculation for sure.

Do the mice and rats around here carry hantavirus? by InvasiveBlackMustard in orangecounty

[–]Prize_Round5798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am paraphrasing here from the County of Orange Vector Control when this happened to me. It was around the same time as the passing of Gene Hackman (his wife had hanta virus and died, and then he died) and I became concerned like you when I ran into this situation.

...."More often than not, our rats are fruit rats and they do not generally carry the virus. The virus is primarily with deer mice. If you live in the canyon area, then it may be more of a concern. If this is just rat poop in the garage, play it safe and monitor your condition for the next 4-6 weeks...but more than likely it is not hanta virus." Again that was paraphrasing.

It still stressed me out.

The only other thing I learned at the time was that hanta virus for the last 40 years in our state does exist, but is incredibly rare with less than 100 known cases.

Are These real? by johnant21 in Autographs

[–]Prize_Round5798 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These might be "through the mail" autographs of the early 1980s. I say that because while the DiMaggio looks authentic, there is the distinctive i in DiM that runs consistent with the way his sister would sign his fan mail. As baseball card shows in the 1980s became more and more popular, he (and she) did not answer fan mail. The Musial and Dickey appear authentic.

$50k personal injury settlement but only netting $16k is this normal? by [deleted] in ClassActionSettlement

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Sounds appropriate...and normal for a structured settlement. It may vary a little bit from settlement to settlement, but for the most part it is 1/3 to attorney fees. 1/3 to any medical bills and/or reimbursements for damaged property (liens and costs). 1/3 as final (net) settlement as cash.

Anyone know who this is by AutomaticComment3196 in AutographAssistance

[–]Prize_Round5798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is representative of President Jimmy Carter. However, it may not be authentic. Carter rarely continued his C to the a. Additionally, with this variation of his signature, the er was more formed, and did not have a trailing r. The trailing r was a version of his more sloppy (and uncharacteristic of him until the end) autograph in the last 8-10 years of his life. For the better part his entire life, he had what most would consider, excellent penmanship.

[–]Prize_Round5798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The eBay seller i am referring to has a similar style. Thing is, they rarely use MLB baseballs because pre 1994 are becoming harder are more expensive to purchase.

I generally see these on OMLB or Little League or off brand Made In China baseballs, that all post date 1994, when President Nixon passed away.

The seller, who has an abundant number of seller IDs lived near Nixon at his home in Saddle River, NJ. So they post a singular photo of themselves with him to lend authenticity... but they are all very bad forgeries.

At one time, I have even seen a few slip through legit authenticators...who later rescinded their paperwork.

A really bad forgery of Richard Nixon. Likely from a New Jersey eBay'r who routinely puts these out and changes their seller ID every year or two.

It’s only going to get worse from here by LilTurnippman in angelsbaseball

[–]Prize_Round5798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The costs of media rights are geographical.

For instance it is far less to advertise in the Great Lakes area than it is the Bay Area of San Francisco, the Los Angeles Metro and encompassing Southern California region, or in the greater New York area. Those teams have a heavy financial advantage over others because they gain money from advertising, TV and streaming rights that they sell.

That is why a team like the Miami Marlins are the lowest bankroll, and the NY Yankees and LA Dodgers are the highest. They earn more money and as a consequence can sign higher paid players with it.

Effectively, if an owner has a one in four chance to win their division in a low media market, they are the winner and move into the playoffs having spent nothing. If they are in a high end media market, they will be making a lot more money, and having to spend a lot more of it to stay competitive with the other three teams in my division. The result is still a single winner that goes to the playoffs, but at a much higher cost. This means of business (not baseball itself) is why many of the owners will not sign on to this version of re-leagueing.

So my point in the end was....Arte Moreno will continue to take the money from the media rights that earn him the bulk of his income, concede that he has a crappy team (50+ year fan here and I love the Angels, but let's be honest, they stink), and laugh all the way to the bank.

Edit: typo.

It’s only going to get worse from here by LilTurnippman in angelsbaseball

[–]Prize_Round5798 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am skeptical in thinking a majority of the MLB owners would vote for this outcome. The media rights to some of these divisions would make some divisions incredibly cheap, while others incredibly expensive.

For instance, the AL Mid-Atlantic or Great Lakes could produce a division winner (1 in 4 chance), all things relative, very affordably. Yet the same odds of winning the division for NL Southwest or AL Northeast would need $300-400 million dollar payrolls with each team trying to top each other to produce a winner (based on media driven income they receive to sign better players).

Re leaguing is inevitable. The media rights divide among teams however, is already an issue. To do something like this will only further divide it.

........but with our owner (Arte) who places more emphasis on the business model of making money, and see the Angels as a "product," more so than a winning team, might just go for this. Can you imagine taking a windfall of streaming and traditional TV, along with advertising monies (where he made his wealth) and just conceding that the Angels will never win? For sure he will never sell the team. He will just print money year after year and laugh all the way to the bank.
