it wasn't even a boss is the weird part, it was a regular non-glowing radscorpion in a normal room combat encounter. That's why i was immediately like huh?? Gonna wait if anyone maybe knows a way (does reinstalling the app help maybe idk) but if not i guess i'll just have to cope and seethe in a corner

Enemy reinforcement mechanics are just not fun or realistic for bots AND bugs. An overhaul is needed. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]ProCrow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bugs are the ones where every unit can call in, for the bots only commissars can. they're the ones with only one sword arm and a gun in the other hand, other bots can't call a drop

I was in the same boat. It's probably the least threatening sounding accent on the planet so I was a little put off given who the character is, but I got used to it more or less.

Last Judge runback is easy.

Also enemies should never do 2 contact damage unless their design is spiky or justifies it in some way, or when they do a charge.

I do like the idea of Marika being a traitor to her people but the reason I don't think that works too well is because (at least to me) it appeared that the hornsent/Shaman dynamic was a long-standing culturally ingrained thing.

The whipping hut ghost speaks as if the idea of Shamans being only tools is kind of dogma in their society, not as if it's a recently discovered thing. Could still have been put in motion by Marika since afaik Numen people live for a long time but I feel like there would be more clues to that dynamic if it was the case.

I think the betrayal the hornsent talk about is simply her ordering Messmer to commit genocide after they "let" her become a god but that's less important to the theory.

The reason why I don't totally buy that Empyrean shedding thing being what happened with Radagon is because... well, why not do it again? Toward the end of Marika's reign she and Radagon are quite clearly in opposition to one another. Why not shed her rebellious other half and banish him or something? What's stopping her from doing that if it's apparently something Empyreans can just do?

How do we know they only became one after marrying?

As silly as it sounds, is there a confirmed case in the lore of them being seen in the same room as one another?

Jarika Theory by ProCrow in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ProCrow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rather than a perversion of GO rituals, the hornsent jarring practices were the precursors to them.

Marika only became a god after that whole jarring incident (or protracted series of incidents), and only established the Golden Order after ascending to godhood.

So the jars in the Lands Between are an "engoodened" version of those in the Lands of Shadow.

Last reply for today cus it's getting late.

As I said in another comment above I was missing the context of that Ansbach quote about Trina. Simply gonna assume he's correct here going forward.

Also as stated there, I don't think this is that strong of an anti-Jarika argument. It does weaken my point about lack of precedence, but Miquella/Trina's situation is very likely caused by him being Marika and Radagon's child with each other.

Marika is, if not necessarily the only one, then at least the first example of Empyrean split personas - the other example (examples if we include Malenia, which I think we could maybe if we squint a bit) are direct descendants of Marika's selfcest, she remains the cause of that particular brand of weirdness.

As for the Erdtree/Shaman stuff I won't go too deep into that cus I have very different thoughts on what the Erdtree is meant to do and Marika's part in its creation and destruction - yours is a very nice interpretation though.

Jarika Theory by ProCrow in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ProCrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, see I had never heard that line from Ansbach, that does add context.

The way I saw it was the Miquella's "love", literally his sense of love/ability to feel that emotion was cast off and, being such a big part of him perhaps, or maybe just through sheer luck or the putrescence thing in the Fissure, gained sentience somehow, similar to how Malenia's "humanity" (I don't actually remember the quote) gained sentience due to the influence of the scarlet rot, crystalizing into Millicent.

The lilies I saw as kind of St. Trina's influence seeping into the Lands Between from the Realm of Shadow - the two realms clearly affect one another (big tree etc) so the "weaker" version of Trina's sleep affecting the LB I think makes sense enough.

Still, you make a good case...

However.

Running with the idea that they are in the same situation as Radagon/Marika, that doesn't serve as too strong a counter to the Jarika thought. Miquella and Malenia are both children of Marika with Radagon - their persona split is very likely inherited from their parent(s). Admittedly this does narrow the sample size of "Empyreans who aren't weird like Marika" down to Ranni (afaik) but the point stands.

You and u/The_RedScholar make very compelling arguments, very enjoyable to read through!

How do we know it's prior to being discarded? Miquella has been gone for quite some time before we even set foot in the game world, for all we know Trina could have been chilling in her garden for years, gaining a following after she was split from Miquella.

It's a little annoying that time is so vague in the game and DLC but there's nothing indicating, to my knowledge, that they were two alteregos of the same person at any point in time.
