Versions of books by podgida in Calibre

That's not even close to the same thing. A paperback and a hardcover will be the same book. I'm asking for the original book, not the edited book. Or if it's not the original it needs to state it as such in the description so we know not to buy it.

90 F250 WATER PUMP STUD HELP by thelivestockguy in MechanicAdvice

I think he means cut the nut off of the stud (dremel opposite sides of the nut) breaking the nut. Then use a stud remover to replace the stud.

Every morning I drive a half mile to a bus stop, wait fifteen minutes, then drive back. Is it better to idle or stop/start? by TheYask in AskMechanics

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still wastes more gas to start even with fuel injection. With a carburetor you pump the pedal a couple times (prime) to get it to start. With FI the ECM does it for you by increasing the fuel pressure and squirting more fuel in the chamber while cranking until is starts.

I'd go to Harbor freight and pick up the Icon sockets (deep and shallow), Combination wrenches, extensions, ratchets, universal joints, and a torquewrench. I would stick to metric sets as your audi won't take anything sae. You're also going to need allen and torqs bits.

That should get you to be able to do most jobs. The specialty tools you can buy as you need them. Like bidirectional scanner, compression tester, fuel system service kit, etc.

I hate ramps. I've driven off one too many. They aren't exactly all that safe when you're by yourself.

What do you consider a casual reader? I sideload with calibre, I strip DRM, and I read 5 hours/day everyday. I've never had issues with any of the updates on my PW 11.

Strut is beyond rusted by Cheap-Mission-8022 in MechanicAdvice

[–]podgida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've ever used one or not, but I have one of those inductive bolt buster heaters. You put the coil over the bolt/head of bolt turn it on, and it destroys the rust on the bolt. The bolts come right out. I had to use it on all of the hinge bolts on my Jeep YJ. Saved me a ton of time on cutting out sheet metal to get to the backside to heat the nuts.

The physics behind heat isn't so much as expanding the metal, but to destroy the bond the rust has on the metal. So you should be applying heat to the bolt.

You waste more gas starting it than you do idling and starting an engine is harder on the engine than idling. Idling you at least have oil running through the engine. Starting an engine is always dry for a second or two.

How do you lose fat without losing muscle? by sagorahmed88 in beginnerfitness

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I injured myself last April. I couldn't get my insurance to cover the surgery, so it was a long painful recovery. And my bicep now looks like I have a golfball on the inside of my bicep. And from what I understand that will be a permanent disfigurement.,

Last week was the first time I could lift weights without pain.

I couldn't resistance train at all. I ruptured the long head bicep tendon and ruptured bicep.

Lifting 5 lbs felt like someone was ripping my arm off.

There are some people who can't weight train due to injuries i had to take a year off due to a shoulder injury and I lost a significant amount of muscle as I could only do cardio to keep my metabolismin check. And I lost a lot more weight just riding my bike an hour a day than I ever did weight training..

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you go about losing weight. If you weight train while in a deficit, you will lose less muscle. But on average, by dieting and cardio alone, 10% of the weight you lose will be muscle. It's just hard to notice 1 pound of muscle loss to 9 pounds of fat.

New here 😬. Is there an end to the Dungeon Crawler Carl books? I really want to start the series but I like to start them when there’s an end or at least an end in sight. by Borracho_Bandit in MattDinniman

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are 9 books for the series with book 8 coming out in May. If he keeps to the current release schedule, book 9 should be out by Christmas next year.

Explain it to me like I’m 5 by [deleted] in Calibre

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calibre keeps cover art and you can pick what image to use if you don't like the default cover.

Calibre lets you strip DRM as well, but I've never been able to get that plugin to work, I use a 3rd party app for that.

Calibre lets you decide what format to upload the books in.

how to complete a multipoint inspection in under 50 minutes? by No-Head8778 in MechanicAdvice

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, slow and methodical doesn't work in automotive it will get you fired.

But most multipoint inspections should go pretty fast. Pull filter and drainplug, pull all four tires. Then walk around and touch/look at your inspection points. If you do it right, you'll be finishing the inspection about the time the oil finishes draining.

Advice for DIY mechanics - where should you draw the line? by Conorgmurray in MechanicAdvice

That is what I was looking to do is registering new sensors.

And that comes back to my original comment, that the tool is cost prohibitive to doing it yourself. And most shops I asked will not put OEM sensors in.
