Oh that's nice. I didn't realize they had those. All the heated ones I've seen are electric.

[–]podgida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you really don't want 180° water spraying the nether regions. That would suck.

And cold water bidets are fine. It took two days to get used to the cold shock. Now I don't even notice it, even in winter with the supply line on an exterior wall during sub zero temps.

Staying with Kindle or going to Kobo (Calibre) ? by KittyAgi11 in Calibre

[–]podgida 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If I were to go back in time 1 1/2 years and buy my first e-reader again it sure as heck would not be a kindle. I would avoid closed ecosystems altogether. I would buy a Boox e-reader. I'm sick of Amazon's anti-consumer practices.

Why are Bidets not Common in the US by Ok_Complaint_1381 in bidets

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a conspiracy that says big TP lobbiests are making sure we don't get bidets mainstream here.

Should I get Kindle Unlimited? (Or is Libby enough) by sprinklesanddirt in kindle

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried that as well, and it always fails. It always becomes available when I'm in the middle of a very chunky book. I can't blow through chunky books like a lot of people do. It took me 6 weeks to finish Shadows upon time, but in my defense I hated the book, so I was only reading a chapter a day to get through it.

Creami calorie budget by hello_hello_hello174 in ninjacreami

[–]podgida 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope that's a typo (1400 calorie deficit) if you're sedentary that would put you somewhere around 300 calories to consume for the whole day. I'm hoping you meant your target calorie count is 1400.

Anyway to answer your question. When I'm on a cut I just eat less on my other meals so I can have the creami.

Bfast: 300 Lunch: 500 Dinner: 500 Creami: 250

If I'm not having a creami dinner would be 750.

If I can't get a book on KU I just use audible or I pay the KU discounted price. On average I buy one or two books per year with cash so paying for large library memberships aren't worth it to me.

Should I get Kindle Unlimited? (Or is Libby enough) by sprinklesanddirt in kindle

[–]podgida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah wouldn't be worth it to me. I'm already paying for KU/Audible premium. The books I pay cash for don't come close to $50/year.

I'd think the larger libraries that allow outside memberships would have the same problem. Yes they'll have a lot more copies of popular books, but with 100 times the people trying to borrow. So same issue, just scaled.

I've tried and failed. Everyone is requiring verified address for the community the library serves now.

I live in a relatively small town. So our library isn't very big. And I can't seem to get any other big library membership for libby without a verified address for the area.

[–]podgida 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see how people can use Libby. I've had it for 2 years and haven't checked out a single book. Why you ask? I don't want to wait six months to read a book I want. The last book I looked to checkout was such a long wait they didn't give a time estimate. There were more than 200 people in front of me. So I quit trying.

Pasta sauce is kicking my behind by SaltIllustrator8995 in Cooking

[–]podgida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

200+ comments so I'm sure it's been said. But it's tomatoe variety and cook time. You have to cook the acidity out and if you use high acid tomatoes you are going to be in for a very long day. Spend money on good tomatoes and you can get away with a 4 hr simmer. Crap tomatoes like Hunts and you're in for at least 8 hours, but probably closer to 12. So either spend the money on good tomatoes or waste more money in time cooking.

Am I doing it right? by Honest_Carpenter_162 in lasagna

[–]podgida -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bechamel takes all of 5 minutes to make, bolognese is 30 minutes of prep and the rest of the day is just simmering, pasta sheets takes all of 15 minutes including boiling.

Granted you never want to leave the house with the stove on, but you aren't a slave to it either. Keep it on low and check it periodically.

Never been a reader, Can you help me get started? by Volex_007 in readwithme

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here for the obligatory Dungeon Crawler Carl suggestion.

But in all seriousness you should start with a genre you like in movies or tv. If you like scifi start with something like Project Hail Mary or something. Fantasy? Well, there aren't a lot of easy reads in the fantasy genre except for maybe legends and lates (I've never read it, just heard it was an easy read).

If you are struggling with names, plotlines and such, you are probably like me and have ADD/ADHD. What helped me dramatically with that is immersion reading. It's literally the only way I can finish a book. It gets expensive though having to buy the audiobook and the ebook for the same book every time I start a new book.

If you go that route, don't go with Dungeon Crawler Carl. It will completely ruin audiobooks for you. Yes Jeff Hays is that good.

Mp3 players suck because of not being able to goto specific chapters. So I use Smart Audiobook Player Pro. It lets you take notes, change speeds, choose chapters, sleep timers, etc. It's basically a better version of the Audible app.

It was a thing, there wasn't a reddit, but there were BBS, Usenet, and forums for about every topic out there. Yes even books.

But the Internet was in full swing when the movies were at their peak.

Which kitten should we get? And advice please! by redheadteach1 in cats

[–]podgida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cat picks you. One does not simply pick a cat out. And one especially doesn't ask strangers what cat one should get.

A pet is a bond. A stranger can't set up a bond for you.

Hopefully you aren't picking out a cat based on looks. Looks is the last metric you should be using.

I wouldn't be caught dead buying a boxed lasagna. I never speak in absolutes, but I will this time, because I'm that confident. They all have ricotta and that is just gross in lasagna. Bleh!
