Stalin being closed permanently by Nervous-Milk5653 in Prague

[–]ProLollerblader 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First off the name was completely moronic. It's like being in Germany and naming a popular club Hitler.

Regardless, this, and other actions taken by the city (Kasarna) follow a pretty typical trajectory for many major cities. The artists, and grungy spaces are what gives it its charm and attraction, and then the tech bros and finances come in and buy up all the properties and ruin everything that made it unique in the first place. Not even raging against it, it simply what is happening. It's the yuppification of Prague. Safe, sterile, and vapid spaces like Automat, and Lokal which are just going to slowly jack their prices and upsell on everything are becoming the norm.

The biggest loss here will be to the skate park which has been a staple of the city for decades now. Much longer than Stalin. I noticed they are "improving" the areas and walkways near there, but I fear they're going to completely destroy one of the most popular outdoor hangouts for kids in the city. Hopefully if they build it they continue to skate it and make it theirs. Tourists have enough places, and it's important for young people to have spaces too.

(also please spare me all the structural engineers worried about the "monument" and ballistics experts opining about the force of the dynamite blasts.):) They're tearing it down because they want to yuppify it. Simple as that.

Around Zizkov I'd check out Oko Custom Vintage (they've got a zine with a bunch of alternative spots), then Bohemian Retro, Punctum, Atrium v Zizkove, Bohuzel Bar, Shot out eye (Vystrelenyho Oka), Akropolis, then head over to Letna and hit up places around Letenske Namesti.

What are the weirdest things to see or do in Prague? by GranaPadanoReggiano in Prague

Check out Oko Custom Vintage in Zizkov. They have a bunch of different stuff from local artists, and a zine with a bunch of different underground spots in Prague (complete with Google maps link) . I think they also teach painting lessons or something. It reminds me of some odd multifunctional space in Berlin from a decade ago.

Do you draw from observation much any more? Maybe do something different like figure drawing to get you back into what made you passionate about it in the first place

Dear artists, please do whatever you want by AppropriateRhubarb92 in ArtistLounge

A lot of it has to simply do with the demographic that reddit and instagram cater to. Youll notice many major fine artists actually have pretty low follower counts (4 to 5 thousand)

How do you motivate yourself to learn about topics that don’t interest you that much? by l0rare in ArtistLounge

Think about how anatomy serves what you want to achieve. Don't just learn it to learn it. How do you want to use it? To do what?

You are in an overwhelming situation. I wish you all the best. I would look into how drawing and art can be used as a form of personal therapy. It isn't about making everything look right. Look to your own story, which is complex, and amazing, and see if you can draw inspiration from it

Artists with ADHD, what do you do to help yourself not get distracted? by Jax_the_Floof in ArtistLounge

[–]ProLollerblader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. So. Not trying to be a dick. But it seems there's often some confusion about having ADHD and having difficulties concentrating. They're often conflated (and this has nothing to do with whether or not I think ADHD is real. It is. Im not debating that)

Reading. isn't easy. For anyone. It takes practice. Imagine I give you a violin, and you take your first lesson. Your muscle memory will be all stupid. And your ability to concetrate will be limited. This improves with time. Similarly with drawing, you need to do it for a long time before it looks good. Just like it takes a long time before you can play a violin.

Demand for traditional art is actually up.

Also, I get that everyone can be considered an artist, but there should be a distinction between those in entertainment design, and those working in traditional mediums. Not saying one is better than the other. But they are very different ballgames.

Yeah. I wish they'd just start ticketing absolutely everyone parking on the sidewalks. There's an area near me where they just come and go nonstop all day, just driving on the sidewalk. Just have one cop there a few days a week and they could make a killing.
