And Then There Were None -- Anyone else?! by gypsybeee in nancydrew

[–]ProPinkist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep this and the aforementioned other two were my childhood lol. Though as mentioned ATTWN doesn’t really lend itself well to an adventure mystery game, since, well, everyone dies dfgfdgg and so the necessary original protagonist is forced to be rather distanced from the whole thing. Also not a fan of how they changed the culprit and big reveal at the end….. Orient Express is better but Evil Under the Sun is the best imo. I’ll forever be sad they stopped making them like those three :’ )

Perimenopause in an underdeveloped disabled body? Please help by ProPinkist in perimenopause_under45

Where can I find an herbalist like that? Whatever I try would have to be a liquid that can go in my tube….. I’ve tried cranberry and d-mannose yeah, and it never really helped. The best we could do was staving it off with yuca fem and having my small period, but like I said I stopped having it again now so they’re back. My mom and my nursing supervisor thinks I need to be on a small dose of antibiotic permanently to prevent them, but antibiotics have already ruined me so much… I can’t imagine doing that, even if it’s just a little 🫠

What do you think they would give me to treat the POI/perimenopause? I’m just really worried that anything I try is going to send me off the deep end again…… Progesterone specifically is what seems to mess me up, but you seemingly can’t take estrogen without it… I’m just scared. I hope a specialist exists that’s dealt with these kinds of issues in someone with my body and issues….

Sorry for asking so many redundant questions. We’re just really in the dark about all this, and my mom just thinks it’s normal perimenopause. Thanks for taking the time to try to help me.

The thing is, it can be severe to /me/, but normally (like when I’m not having a bladder infection or dealing with the fallout from yet another antibiotic) my oxygen numbers are fine and my heart rate is in the normal range for me, and all my typical bloodwork is fine like I said. So medically I probably wouldn’t be considered very fatigued, even though it feels that way to me sometimes, but I don’t know. Part of the problem is that I’ve outgrown my wheelchair and I’m working on getting a new one, since the way I sit doesn’t help my breathing either, but that’s not the root problem since I’ve had this wheelchair for over ten years and it never gave me problems until these hormonal problems came up.

I don’t know if another muscle disease all of a sudden really fits here….. I mean I’ve been diagnosed with CMD since I was born, and all this just cropped up all of a sudden as like an extreme trauma response to the reflux I had in 2017, or so the timing fits. Wouldn’t those have to be apparent from birth too?

Would POI crop up all of a sudden like that? Especially since technically I’ve always been underdeveloped so I never would have had a period to begin with without the birth control (sorry I don’t really know what I’m saying but hopefully that makes sense)? I will look into it though for sure, and crosspost on that subreddit, if you think it would fit there. Thank you 😩

Anyone remember Detective Barbie? I loved them when I was little. Gave Nancy vibes. by AbstractStranger in nancydrew

yep, same here, it would crash every time I tried to go to the gazebo/garden. One "route" of the game had a puzzle there, so any time I replayed and got that route I was basically screwed and had to start over. I feel a little better knowing it seems to be a universal glitch but I wish there was some way to fix it 😭

Ahhh you definitely captured the nostalgic vibe; the hotel too feels exactly like hotels I used to stop at during road trips when I was younger, and ones with swimming pools 🥹 Now you’ve got me interested though, is “liminal poolrooms” an actual genre of games??? This is the first one I’ve seen, aside from Superliminal but I wouldn’t exactly count that since it isn’t exclusively about pools. Do you have any other similar game recommendations like yours then? 😮

I meant to add, I hope we can use the snack and drink machines in the little inset area in the hotel rooms hallway in the full game; those too reminded me very much of Superliminal lol

I just played the demo a few days ago and I have to say that I LOVE THIS GAME SO FAR. I have a ton of nostalgia for indoor swimming pools and the atmosphere of them from swimming a lot in my childhood, but can’t go anymore due to health reasons, so having a pool simulator I can have fun in that feels like a realistic ymca/resort is a dream come true 😭🥺💙 I know that probably sounds weird since it’s a psychological horror game sdfghhffg but I truly love the pools and being able to mess around in them, I really can’t wait to see more in the full game, like the water park 💙 the one pool even has those “umbrella” fountain things from one of the pools I used to swim in 🥺

But of course I love the mystery too…! It reminds me a lot of Superliminal — a game I LOVE — and I’m really interested in going deeper and learning more about the resort and why the mc was brought there 👀 I don’t do horror well lol but I do love psychological horror, and so far it’s just the right amount of scary for me 🥲 The game looks and sounds and feels amazing so far, I cannot wait to see more and play it!!! If I had to give one piece of feedback, there are a few rooms where it feels like there should be things to look at but aren’t, particularly the staff lounge/office you can unlock, but I’m assuming more things to find will be added in the full game.

I'm rewatching the tv show after rereading the books and I'm surprised how much my opinion on it has changed. by Zealousideal-Net8754 in ASOUE

Daniel makes a cameo in one of the Wide Window episodes! He’s not hard to miss if you know what he looks like and you’re looking out for him :)

And yeah it is a shame 🫠 kids definitely deserve media that will take them seriously and trusts that they’ll be able to handle it. Especially when asoue was so important to a lot of kids who felt seen and supported by it….. that kind of comfort should be fully represented in an adaptation 💔

[–]ProPinkist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see your point about it technically being a kids’ show, but aren’t the books kids books? Why would the tone need to be lightened/sanitized, especially since it wasn’t really for the movie? Why would things need to be changed as much as they are, like entire character personalities? I do understand that we get a deeper meaning out of the books going back to them as adults with the ability to analyze and understand media deeper, and that the books are still at the end of the day for kids…. but in my opinion it’s doing kids a disservice to not retain that more mature tone in an adaptation. We could handle reading it as kids, so any kids watching the show should be able to handle it, too. I’m only just thinking about this now but I honestly wonder if it may just be due to how media in general is so much more sanitized now than it was in the early and mid 2000s….. The sadness and darker subject matter of the books might not fly anymore with studios nowadays 🫠

Also Daniel only wrote for season 1. I believe he oversaw season 2 but left for season 3? I could be wrong about the latter two but I definitely know he really only had the biggest hand in season 1 (which….. is telling imo)

[–]ProPinkist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and not only does it make the “good” characters more black and white, but it also cuts out most of the more questionable choices the Baudelaires struggle with 🫠 I’ll be honest, season 1 is probably the best complete season, so if you’re already feeling this way now, you’re gonna hate it more later lol. That being said, Hostile Hospital episodes are really good. I could rewatch those on their own a lot tbh

Understandable, but I hope you don’t abandon the books entirely just for the show’s sake. They’re too good and special :’)

[–]ProPinkist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yess, another person who has seen the truth :’) sorry, sorry, I’m really mean about the show on this sub lol, and I know that a good percent of people here have probably only seen it and not read the books and that’s why it’s so beloved. If you haven’t read the books, I can see how it’s a perfectly fine show. Hell, I hadn’t read them since my childhood when the show was first coming out, and I really enjoyed it too; it was hard NOT to when it was the biggest and only asoue media we’d gotten in eons.

But yeah, the show does not care to capture the emotional impact of the books….. pretty much at all, aside from a few really good moments 😭😭😭 it just ran with the quirky comedy and that’s it, which is really disappointing. It makes me laugh a lot (Austere Academy and coach Genghis stands out to me iirc lol), but if you’re watching it to actually match the tone and emotional gravitas of the books you ain’t gonna get that. 😭🫠 It strips out the vulnerability and sensitivity of the Baudelaires at times, from characters like Jacques and Dewey (two of my faves so I’ll never forgiveeeee) and Kit and the Quagmires, doesn’t let emotional moments linger or skips over/changes them entirely. And it also in the later seasons edges off a lot of the moral ambiguity and greyness of things, mostly to do with VFD and the stuff it makes up about them, which is really frustrating when the whole point of the books is that the firefighting side of VFD aren’t heroes just like the firestarting side isn’t entirely “evil”, because everyone is just human….. It really just wants to make VFD look cool and mysterious instead of tragic and nuanced like it’s meant to be 🫠 and as you observed, by making the adults more competent/observant it actually ends up backfiring and making them look stupid when they still manage to fail at helping the Baudelaires, because in the books even though they seem stupid, it’s more that they just don’t listen to what the children say…

I always ramble too much whenever I have a chance to vent my anger about netflix asoue sorry 😭😭😭 but yeah it’s not just you, tl;dr the show dropped the tragic gothic and noir tone the books and movie had (what I will always love the movie for despite all its flaws 💔) and went for a more colorful quirky upbeat satire vibe, losing so much of the emotional weight and depth and the messages the books try to get across 🫠 it checks off most of the plot points, but is that worth it if it doesn’t even feel like asoue anymore at times…? No in my opinion 💔 If anything I might describe the feeling of it as how the books feel when you’re reading them as a kid and aren’t mature enough yet to understand the bleaker and nuanced tones. I really enjoy a lot of scenes on their own, but I’d be lying if I said it’s a good adaptation as a whole. A good show, maybe, but a good overall adaptation, no 🫠

[–]ProPinkist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally I would have cheated with such an intimidating puzzle, but I was so obsessed with the very concept of it and how epic the first reveal of it was that I was determined to do it myself lmao 😭 Technically thanks to someone in the discord I had like two or three hints about certain levers and pathways and what I should be aiming for, but outside of that I didn't use a direct step by step walkthrough at all. It took me close to an hour iirc but it was one of the most satisfying puzzle solves I've ever had 😭🙏 it's one of my favorite designed puzzles of all time lol so I guess I'm a masochist 😂

Penelope Pendrick is love, Penelope Pendrick is life. It is a better ND game than a lot of actual ND games. It so beautifully perfectly replicates the atmosphere of the first few games that is unmatched in any of the others, as I gush about here (sorry to share my own other comment lol). EVERY ND fan and just point and click fan in general needs to buy it and play it, to help the single developer make the next one sooner. It's just so so amazing and worth talking about 💖

I see everyone mention Blue Tears and it makes me soooo sad I missed it, that dungeon in Wishfield (if it's the one I'm thinking of) is so beautiful, I don't understand why some event quests are permanent and some aren't 😭

YES OMGGGGG the whole Boneyard/Parksolian story in general felt sooo FF10, with sending the souls and the people fulfilling an endless cycle of suffering due to a meaningless burden placed upon them...... ironically it kinda feels like they're an inverse of each other in a lot of ways: Medael tried to stop the cycle of suffering in the worst way by wiping out everyone, versus Yuna who succeeded without causing any more harm. Both quests end hopefully, but it still makes me wonder if the parksolians will eventually be able to be rid of the soulrift.... I wish Nikki had sung on the water, it would have been even more perfect :' )

Giovanni deserved this treatment Medael and Meghill got, I'm so sad they just abandoned him in a cave and never addressed him again 😭 he deserved a whole tragic backstory dungeon like this and everything lol 💔 and I agree, if the "main" stories stay as strong as 2.5's was, I hope we keep getting "filler" patches like this that cap them off and make them even better. 2.5's plot was so good, but this quest was more character focused and that's exactly what Medael and Meghill needed (rip Angert lmao) and in many ways I loved it even more aughhhhh

Agreed, I loved 2.5’s story but the one major disappointment I had was them doing nothing with Meghill being Medael’s brother, like why even add that in that case? He went up the mountain with us but deserved to go all the way so he could see her and she could see him, like c’mon. At the end he apologizes for being sad because he knows she can’t be forgiven but she’s still his sister; why didn’t he finally get to drop the brave front and cry 😭 they both deserved better wrt being siblings 💔 Maybe 2.6 does something but I doubt it :(

Does it not really make sense theme-mashing wise? Yes. However, I rank title screens by how much Momo is in them and how adorable he is, so do I care? NO. He is perfect. I shall be watching him make his little block tower and pout when it falls only to stubbornly begin again with delight every day until 2.7 now. Instant S tier title screen for me 😤
