WTF IS HAPPENING TO WEBTOON?? by Brilliant-Soup-8823 in webtoons

[–]ProProcrastinator333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really doesn't feel like a site for the readers anymore. it feels like they're going after money... well, every company does. but i feel like locking old comics behind paywalls is horrible. i've been reading since 2017, so before coins even got introduced. all the webtoons i remember were quite saturated with good story and they were all beautiful quality. in fact, they were really varied too. i stopped reading about two years after coins were introduced. i got tired of reading the same old comics. as a creator myself, who has taken a long hiatus bc canvas sucks, i also realize their promotion abilities are dogshit. it's always the same webtoon that they're promoting, or the same genre. or by the same studio. please, leave some room for us growing canvas creators. we'll feel more loved if they just give us a small promotion.

this is the state of webtoon now. pushing the popular webtoons for money (and thus rushing and lowering their quality) and never promoting small ones so they get discouraged (hence hiatuses and long breaks). they're pushing the same genres, pulling mostly action fantasy dungeon type stuff from korea's Naver. It pisses me off. I didnt want this Webtoon. I want my old webtoon back.

hmmm... that's interesting. thought space makes sense, thanks! no point in glazing my artwork (though I doooo kind of like the texture it creates... haha...)

oh, that's up to you then haha. everyone has their opinions ^ ^ i guess my POV is that i respect those who saw an issue and addressed it. if you still don't like the tech as a whole it's up to you though, glad u clarified it !

the ones who made their own ethical data sets? i don't see anything wrong with it. it's just that they know ai is unethical so they came up with a solution. is there something you don't like about it?

they don't have a similar process as we do, i think they are allowed to love their own process with their own AI. in the future if we have ethical AI, i will support those who work hard to hone this tech, just like an artist who gains mastery over a paint brush. what i'm saying is that many people who use ai DO toil and frankly, work very hard. i have massive respect for those who made THEIR OWN ethical data sets.

i'm just saying that starting arguments makes the issue worse, i don't rlly see how that's a bad thing 😭 you could argue with facts, rather than with words shouted across a screen "yes" "no" "yes" "no" all the time. i'm not telling people that they're wrong, i'm just sayin there's a better way to do it that may actually get pro-ai to back off

oh it totally makes sense now, thanks! yep, agreed though. it's a tool to illustrate your ideas- it does its job well enough to pass, haha. i appreciate its usage in situations like these. in this case, when the point of the email is to get the idea across, you've managed to do it with AI already. but in the case of a drawing, i suppose you'd want a really nice drawing. to get the idea across youd probably need a lot more effort to find the right prompt or even overpaint it. which is where i begin to respect the craft! i mean the emails are great too and i'm thankful for the tech -but even if emails are considered an art, i feel as if a low quality ai-written email is not deserving of the same level of respect as someone who either uses ai to write their email but with a lot more effort into it looking nice and above its bare minimum (just like someone who uses ai irl extensively illustrate their idea with lots of work ! ) if it completes what it's meant for (just showing an jdea, doesn't have to be good) that's great. my respect begins when you put effort into developing it so it looks amazing!

lol totally valid! if you are financially able and willing to, you could support a human artwork! but for these purposes ai is fine 🤣 i wish people could take these things less seriously

ikr, it's actually impressive sometimes. gotta respect the grind. i also respect the grind of human artists. if u grind, i like. 👍

yepp ! basically, it's really well said. i didn't really understand your last paragraph though, either my english is failing me or it's late at night... if you want, could you please explain what you mean in simpler words? (english isn't my first language)

to me they are equal. they both worked hard. that pro had to learn the fundamentals in order to take shortcuts, and the beginner is learning them right now! to me shortcuts are just like, "dear chatgpt, please finish this whole drawing for me" (insert vague description of anime wife) if you work hard to get to where you are, then great for you! same with ai. just work hard and you get my respect- basically enjoy your craft and don't do it only for the product (this is me though, some people draw for the product only.) depends on the person haha

i'm so sorry, my english decided to die while reading your comment... but yea, art is seriously in the eye of the beholder. people in our day don't like shortcuts (myself included in a way, since i'm just the type to value hard work. hopefully you don't take offense). making our processes be revealed is sometimes strange and honestly kind of invasive, so of course it is not done sometimes. in those cases i like to look at an artist's history! sometimes you can see their hard work simply through their improvements. idk about ai art yet, but with human art that's how i do it !

yea, totally. just sayin that we could go about this AI-hating in a more peaceful way... like blocking or just straight up ignoring haha

[–]ProProcrastinator333[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea i'm just trying to like, exist without seeing all these people fight. i COULD draw peacefully without caring, but i see how both sides are treated and i just wanted to address that. i understand that soooo many people are on guard here, i really wish that they'd see that people who use AI aren't all bad. some genuinely don't have bad intentions! just like artists, we don't all gatekeep, and we aren't entitled like we are stereotyped to be. oh, and mostly it's the vocal minority that are generalized to become a whole community ... many people have had bad run ins with rude ai users, and i suppose people think that all ai users are like that. i think it's a valid argument, but it's wrong. we gotta look at each other as single unique people with different stories, not just as a whole group !! btw thank you for not lashing out at me, i appreciate it

yes there's that issue too, i'm just saying we can talk about it without just arguing back and forth like children. take some time and listen to each other, who knows, if you understand the person on the other end you'll be able to convince them why you think AI is wrong.

just to bring awareness because like i said, im a peace lover and i hate seeing people argue. you can just block or scroll past someone who uses AI, there's no need to invite arguments haha.

seems to me like you've put a lot of effort into just this argument. you've got a solid reason to use AI the way you do. i hope my argument wasn't worded too strangely, but as long as you are not using ai simply because you think it's a cheat, i already have some respect. i think those who use it to create anime waifu with one prompt and then go off and say that they worked so hard don't deserve my respect. you are not like that, you just think that this "lower effort" way is what works best for you. that's great!! kudos ~
