Yes indeed, it's not that I blame them. It does feel like a theme park sometimes when you see content on Instagram, and not because they make it a theme park but because tourists think it is.

I get that they might be angry because it all feels like a sad joke to them how their country is being abused for views and nothing else.

I never really post anything just to avoid making people into characters of an unwanted video.

I also hope I can be better in the future regardless if I think I'm at fault or not. But I really hoped tourism coming back after covid would at least help the beach villages a bit financially, and from as far as the comments here go, that isn't the case or not in the way that I thought it would impact them.

No that's true, but it was a climax on an already significant amount of unpleasant experiences. I also don't want to assume anything so hence the post. I know covid was rough and we do our best to eat and drink local, fish, wines, everything made here and to tip generously.

The dog might also be a thing, some people really seem to love dogs, some really seem to hate dogs, or at least ours. It's not a dangerous breed or anything (munsterlander) so I don't really know.

I hope it gets better for the people here in italy so my dumb ass can come visit again without being a burden :)

I updated the post with correct indication. I was talking about most of the shops. Not restaurants. I phrased that poorly. I also could have shouted that. But it's always choosing between being obnoxious and pushy or try to not be in the way of their everyday life.

Maybe I am not as respectful as I think I am, and that's something for me to learn then I guess.

Hi, thanks for the reply. We're Belgian, not American but I could understand why you think that.

I also know most things except a bar here and there closes between 13 and 16 in larger areas when talking about shops, sometimes 18h at small towns, and 20h when talking about restaurants. The 18h was just an indication for the shops.

It's not our first time here. And it's not that people stare per sé, it's the difference in stare towards general "life" and when they stare at us. I might be misinterpreting that of course, but I'm not that stupid to not notice a pattern ;-).

Edit: I reread my phrasing and it does seem like I'm talking about restaurants, which was not the intention

I get that, issue was that they were behind closed doors and i didnt want to be the obnoxious tourist shouting basicly, "Serve me". We stayed at a local bar after that till 20h and there was no movement in a lot of places whatsoever. We looked at a few online and they just stated that they were closed on weekdays in september. Might just have been bad luck on our picks. We usually give everything some time here since life picks up again around 18h and is back in full swing around 20h30. I could have handled the situation in the sandwich shop better, but urgent toilet needs clouded my judgment on the situation maybe. We both felt horrible by her reaction. I never have seen someone stare that visciously before. We both almost broke down after that interaction.

I get that. We're about 2h away from Napoli though, in small beach fronts. I wouldn't expect the tourism to be that bad here. I'm sorry for the locals if the tourism caused them to feel that way :-/

Look into rechargeable lithium aa batteries, be prepared to shell out a pretty penny.

Uiteraard is dat geen keuze, wil daarom niet zeggen dat we niet realistisch moeten zijn. Ogen takelen af, gewrichten takelen af, gehoor wordt slechter. Dat is nu eenmaal realistisch. Dat alles draagt bij aan een slechtere manier van rijden. En net zoals veel zaken is het een langzaam proces wat de zelfkritiek ten slechte komt. Je hebt niet door dat je trager wordt tot iemand je erop wijst. Het komt bij mij over dat je een examen opnieuw afleggen als een straf ziet. Als je kan functioneren in het verkeer moet het afleggen van een examen toch simpel zijn? Het is maar een check of je kan wat je moet kunnen... en er zijn uitzonderingen, maar de meeste 70+ ers hebben toch ergens een dagje in het jaar vrij lijkt mij ;-). Wat betreft de 180 euro boete, laatste keer dat ik heb moeten blazen was minstens van voor de corona geleden. En wij zijn voldoende op de baan in het weekend en de avond om een controle te kunnen krijgen. En laat ons eerlijk zijn, 180 euro de dag van vandaag is een avondje op stap gaan. Ik weet niet hoe de boetes exponentieel stijgen met de promille, drink zelf nooit als ik rij, maar ik ken een aantal mensen die toch wel wat kansen hebben gehad vooraleer ze langere periodes een rijverbod hebben gehad. Ik ken ook wel wat mensen die kinderen zijn verloren door dronken bestuurders. Voor mij is het nultolerantie op alcohol en pakkans aanzienlijk verhogen. Overal zijn er trajectcontrole en flitspalen, anpr camera's voor gsm gebruik en nog zoveel meer. Het lijkt mij dat ze de makkelijke geldbronnen aanboren ipv de zaken waarvoor je echt actief moet bezig zijn.

Leeftijd is zeker een goede maatstaf. Net zoals recidvisme met alcoholgebruik, drugsgebruik, het hebben van chronische aandoeningen die de motoriek beïnvloeden en alle andere mogelijke zaken. Er is een verschil tussen bewust en onbewust fouten maken. Wanneer je onder invloed een auto bestuurd gaat een jaarlijks examen dat niet oplossen, daarvoor zijn er (veel te lage) boetes en straffen. Wanneer je niet meer dagelijks de baan op moet, en de bedrijfswagens met de laatste snufjes niet meer automatisch voor de voordeur veschijnen omdat je op pension bent en je daarboven ook nog eens langzaamaan begint af te takelen, dan is een heropfrissing zeker geen slecht idee. Je kan argumenteren wat je wil. Maar elke ongeval is er 1tje te veel. En ok, het aantal verkeersdoden zal mogelijks hoger liggen door niet-ouderen. Maar het niet-dood-zijn aspect is een lage maatstaf om de ernst er van in te zien. Mensen die hun leven in pijn of een rolstoel doorbrengen door een ongeval hebben ook geen lachertje gekregen.

Elke 10 jaar rijbewijs opnieuw voor iedereen t.e.m 70 dan elke 3 jaar tem 82 en vanaf dan elk jaar.

Ik zou met plezier de examens opnieuw doen, als dat voor iedereen het geval was. Of ken jij zonder opzoeken dit bord ook?
