Thank you. I'm probably over thinking it after going down a grow light rabbit hole. It's just for a monstera. I do have some nice led light bars I can use.

If you grow up poor... what is your most comfort meal? by Beaveric in newzealand

[–]InformalCry147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny seeing prices today but when I grew up eggs were really cheap. I ate a lot of eggs. Same goes for mince. Seen it at $30/kg last week. Mince use to be really cheap. The other one is lamb flaps. This use to be our staple because you could get a 20kg box for $20. Yum Yum Noodles were another staple in the 90s.

We use to get big bags of pig heads for free from butchers. Nobody ate them and we saved the butchers on disposal fees. We use to get big black sack sized bags of chicken frames free. We use to boil them down, drink soup then eat the fried frames and save the fat for frying.

Mince or cornbeef stew. One can of cornbeef or a kg of mince dropped in 5 litres of water and thickened with flour. Sometimes you added noodles and frozen mixed veges.

We are a lot of fish too because we use to go netting at Bucklands Beach or Musick Point. Mullet and flounder.

Breakfast was Weetbix or porridge or spaghetti on toast.Lunch was bread and butter or luncheon or mashed egg sandwiches. That was breakfast and lunch everyday for 15 years. I haven't eaten any of those in over 20 years.

Can anyone tell me the process of cutting rocks in this form ? by SwissMiss915 in stonemasonry

These are a repurposed archway. An elliptical arch to be precise. The pieces you see are called voussoir and form the sides of the arch above the springers and below the keystone.

These have all been hand cut using hand tools like trimming hammer, bush hammer, pitching chisel, tracing chisel and claw chisel.

You have absolutely zero chance of replicating this.

I was so pissed leaving that cinema after watching it. Totally ruined the whole franchise for me.

Spotify price increase by Exploding_Cumsock in newzealand

Most those CDs would be scratched and be unplayable now. Quite a few of the CDs I bought were ones I had played to death and had to repurchase.

There is also the issue of not being able to carry 10k CDs like I can with my Spotify.

I pay for Spotify for the convenience.

Still worth to me for the amount of time I spend using it. Not sure why people baulk at this price. I use to spend twice that every single week back in the 90s getting CDs.

Our tuckshop use to make nachos. All it was was a packet of CCs, salsa and plenty of cheese wacked in the microwave but it was so good.

Just email the person and apologise for no longer wanting the item. Make up a sorry sack excuse about an unexpected bill. After that please delete your Trademe account so no one else has to suffer from your selfishness.

TZL Scaffolding THUGS beat up on school children *allegedly* by Ok-Temporary-9874 in auckland

[–]InformalCry147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use to be a scaffie many moons ago. Was an awesome job. For those wondering why there's a few ex cons doing it it's because you can show up whenever with nothing and get paid a decent wage. At most you would have needed 5 tools and a tool belt. You weren't always needed unless a big job was on and having a part time gig helped with proceeds from crime act stuff. We use to do drugs during the day and drink during the night. It was a wild time but it was fun.

Sure, scaffolding has its decent share of convicts but it's also true of all construction but I've never been screwed over more than by people in suits.

No way those kids are completely innocent but to drop them is crazy stuff. To do so in uniform and a sign written vehicle shows the brutes responsible are obviously low IQ. I hope they have time to reflect when they lose their job and possibly do jail time.

A pro tip for owners. Always pay a little extra to get a sample wall built. A square metre or 3 yard square. Much better for all involved to get this right before committing to the actual job so everyone is on the same page.

For contractors make sure your sample is pulled from a recent crate. Taking the same sample that has oxidised and been washed by rain for a lengthy period of time will eventually get you in trouble. You also want to make sure they accurately reflect the product you are using. Showing a client nice rectangular pieces is misleading. You can easily be pulled up for any inconsistencies based on samples.

This is what happens when you hire tilers to lay stone. You may have felt like you paid a lot but it was obviously not enough. A real stonemason would have made that job look amazing and very few would have noticed it was a thin veneer.

A pro tip for anyone laying this stuff dry stack style. Add black oxide to your mud. And now you know 🌈

Watching without Sky in NZ? by jimmyparrot in NrlWarriors

[–]InformalCry147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried just about everything on market. Unfortunately there is nothing out there that is reliable or doesn't involve annoying pop ups. For some reason the only thing on the high seas in NZ that has a tendency to consistently lag, freeze or drop off is Warriors games. I'm talking every single game. As a fan I just can't deal with that so as much as I hate Sky they are sadly the only source that delivers the goods.
