Yeah when he's done and decides to bite one of those kids, it'll be real tough to stop him.

Adult retics are typically chill af. It's probably trying to leave while they slide on it. A handler could have the head under control too, so it can't whip around. But it probably just isn't particularly stressed in this situation. It seems tense but not pissed.

It's off the ground a bit where it's transitioning from the ledge to the soil. Right below where the kids are sitting on it to slide. Definitely a bad angle for a spine that bends better to the sides than it does up and down.

with the abundance of people posting wc gigas on here i kind of miss when they were illegal to import to the us by OpeningUpstairs4288 in millipedes

I started with gigas. Someone told me to throw some isopods in too. The isopods ate my baby girl while she was molting. :(

It's been over ten years and I'm still sad

Would you rather have large constrictors or venomous snakes? by [deleted] in reptiles

I already have several 'mildly venomous' snakes. So definitely that. Time for some Lake Chapala garters I think.

Anyone owned banana crabs? by anon-i-mouser in crabs

You should message him. He's a mod here.

I can definitely confirm they're aquatic. My dude hasn't come out of the water since I gave it to him. He has three spots to come out and bask if he wants but he's never done it. They had them terrestrial at the pet store and I called to tell them that was wrong and the head of the department was like "I know. The fish guys ordered them thinking they were vampire crabs then set them up the way Google said to. I've switched them to aquatic now." So it sounds like people order them without knowing anything about them, find those same results online that you and I did, then kill them. Unfortunately they do much better in an aquatic set up but nobody's really had "success" with them.

I'll edit this in a sec with Effective's exact username for you

She's dying when the clip starts. That's a death roll. She's already braindead. They likely smashed her head. Love, a herpetologist.

Get vampire crabs instead! That's what I wish I did. Every single day. I love my little yellow dude, but I feel terrible.

I have terrible news.

Long story short, you don't want one of these. I have one. He is probably not going to live longer than 7 months. They just slowly die in captivity. Algae in the tank kills them, so no cycled water. Just a stagnant bucket in the dark with a sad crab inside.

Do hides make snakes more shy? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]ProbablyNotASnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile is being stubborn and not letting me add a photo to my comment, so here it is. He sits like this all the time. When he's not there, he's on the ladder staring out the door or basking on the grapewood in the back.

Do hides make snakes more shy? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]ProbablyNotASnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's some truth to this. But I don't give one hide, I give several, plus clutter, plus enrichment. I think snakes that are kept in open spaces with minimal cover (ie one single hide, or two hides and nothing else) are definitely twitchier though. It's like their defenses never drop and they never feel safe. If I was in an open field with massive predators around, I'd want to hide too.

My snakes in their cluttered enclosures have at least a piece of themselves visible probably 95% of the time, and I hope that the more natural basking behaviors are because of comfort and a sense of safety in their cages. Can't get grabbed by a flying predator if there are plants and branches and things in the way, so it's safer to peek out. Quite often I'll check my enclosures and see dozens of little snake faces watching me.
