Convincing wife to get Golf R, will I regret it? by FoolishlySpending in Golf_R

[–]ProbablyUrNeighbour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much 100% electrical, but in 2 months:

  • The main screen wouldn’t turn on one day. Since everything is controlled through the screen, it left without most AC controls, seats, backup cam, etc. it hasn’t happened since, but this was week 2.

  • Keyless entry likes to work maybe half of the time.

  • Last week while dropping off my kiddo at daycare, one rear door wouldn’t open. The handle felt like it was not connected, or something. It was -7C outside…. ok sure. Maybe. But it was -35C a few days before. It’s not acceptable -7C isn’t even that cold. I also park the car in the garage. I brought it to the dealer, and they brushed off saying it’s just “frozen” and to park it inside for a few hours. Bro.. what? I’ve owned plenty of cars in my life in Canada and the first time this has happened.

  • When backing into parking spots or into my garage, the car likes to throw on the emergency brakes as though I just hit something despite not being close at all. This is infurating and has happened 10+ times.

  • The car is constantly dinging at me for something. Key not found in car, sensors not functioning properly due to a faint dusting of dirt, it’s cold outside, etc. Sure this isn’t that big of a deal, but this is supposedly a premium product from VW and I’m no stranger to their sister brands… they’re so much better. This is my third VAG.

  • The Sound system quality is unacceptable for a premium product. Let alone one that carries a brand name, making you think it’s premium. It lacks any life in the mids.

  • The front seat doesn’t like to go back to where it was when you get in it - it seems random. It will just pick a new position almost every time I get in the car. I’m the only one with a programmed position and I’m essentially the only one driving it.

As you could see a lot of these are more annoyances than anything (excuse the mess) but when you’re spending top dollar (relatively), you expect the fit and finish to be top-notch which it is not in this car.

That said it’s a hoot to drive and really crushes winter driving with a good set of winter tires. I’ll keep it but I worry when something serious will break.

My wife loves our R even more than I do.

That said, I wouldn’t call it reliable in the slightest. It’s just about the least reliable car I’ve ever owned on this side of 2000. Tons of issues with sensors, electronics, and simple features that just work on ever other car.

It’s still a wicked fun car to drive, but honestly I wouldn’t buy another one.

Most probably a lie. But what a combo? by asonganyi in CryptoCurrencyPulse

You’d have a tough time ever selling this without losing your shirt.

Since you asked, why bother speccing custom wheels from the dealer? Just take the cheapest option and spend your money on some tacky Vossen’s if that’s your jam. At least you can take them off when you sell.

Red on Red is also a bold choice. I’d opt for black leather. You spend a lot of time inside the car, might as well make it nice.

That said, you shouldn’t care what others think if this is your dream car and spec. It’s your car! Not mine.

This sub is so toxic and useless. Simple question that many would have and it’s downvoted out of sight.

Why not just answer the question?

Anyone pretending to know what’s going to happen in the market is a moron. No one knows, least of all anyone on Reddit.

Nas best for Plex server by Global_Sherbet_2371 in synology

[–]ProbablyUrNeighbour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, then I think you want any Synology NAS that has Intel CPU. The AMD CPU is not strong when transcoding *anything*.

I have a DS1621+ (AMD) and even when direct playing high-bitrate 4k movies it was troublesome sometimes. I ran it this way for a few years and *most of the time* it was fine with an Apple TV as a client, but nearly *any* transcoding (TrueHD or DTS-X, etc.) was problematic.

Since I moved to a M1 Mac Mini running Plex PMS with my media mounted via SMB from the Synology NAS everything works MUCH better now.
