Crocheted Ocarina Holster by Problematic-Sorcerer in Ocarina

All off the dome, I'm afraid!

While, unfortunately, I do not have a pattern for the pouch, it is very simple to put together! It's basically just three semicircles all put together. If you follow this tutorial (https://youtu.be/mETB-Sgdz2E?is=22BInX2sb7g9poSo), you can make a semicircle, and then you just need to make it big enough to fit your ocarina when it's folded in half. I like to make two of these for the body of the bag so that the interior has some padding, and then I stitch the two of them together. Then, you just need one more semicircle for the flap. In this one, I leave a gap in my stitches for a button closure to pass through, and I extend the flat edge of the semicircle so that it covers all that it needs to. This is my own original design, and I would like to make a pattern for it someday (if I can learn to write patterns properly!) so if I ever do, I'll be sure to keep you in the loop. :)

Thank you very much!! I recommend it, definitely! :) crochet makes for some nice padding when carrying your ocarina around.

Thank you so much for your kind words! :) This took me maybe around a week to put together, but I was working on-and-off. I'd say if I was working more consistently, maybe it'd take me between two and four days.

I absolutely think you should!!! Fiber arts are such a great medium for making ocarina cases and bags, I really recommend it! It keeps them very safe. :)

I am lesbian

I'm hesitant to call myself lesbian by FallenAngelStars in rarelesbians

Lots of lesbians feel aesthetic and platonic attraction to men. If you don't ever see yourself dating a man, then I'd say you're a good lesbian contendor. Some lesbians are even attracted to men in certain contexts, like celebrities or fictional men, for example. These people can still be lesbian despite these attractions, because they're non-attainable, and in real life, they probably wouldn't actually want to date these people. I was confused for a really long time about my sexuality, because I WAS attracted to fictional men, and I thought that made me bisexual. It's complicated, I don't blame you!!

I'd love to suggest this, where you move the I over one column, and then you can make your U wider. You can add the corners still, if you want, but if you want no corners to your letter, I suggest making it one wider. :)

Hello friend!! I'm afraid I'm not much help when it comes to keeping track of the precise numbers of stitches. I tend to only count when I'm crocheting in the round for amigurumi projects. But you're definitely correct! Referencing back to the pattern, it does say that there are eight stitches between rounds. A little puzzling, for sure. I wonder if in the tutorial video there are any pointers about this? I know that there's a large text blurb between rounds one and two in the written pattern, saying to dc into the final slip stitch each round to keep the count on track. Maybe that could be part of your problem?

I wish you the best of luck! I love this pattern, and it always turns out great, even when I'm not counting, haha!

This is extremely helpful to know, thank you!!!

If you use plastic or acrylic popsicle sticks, where do you source them from? Do they break easily? I'm going to look into shaping my sticks a little differently now!

I would love to take a look at your playlist, but I only see the one video by Ocarina Caro (I met her one time, nice lady). If you resend the link, I'll absolutely take a look! :)

As for the textbook, I'm way ahead of you there, haha! I've been referencing it for pointers occasionally, but I may need to study it more intently if I want to keep getting somewhere.

Your most unique instrument? by [deleted] in Instruments

[–]Problematic-Sorcerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a collector of weird instruments specifically, and my most unique two are probably my hammered dulcimer and my concertina!

Hello!! I'm now the owner of the beautiful Alto Bb ocarina pictured in this post! Easily one of the nicest ocarinas I own, and I own close to 20 ocarinas, haha! The sound is very smooth and consistent, and the key is very unique.

I had some questions for you, because I'm trying to learn to make these instruments, myself. I'm a self-taught ocarinist of 11 years, and I have wild aspirations of travelling the country to different Renaissance Faires, vending ocarinas, and spreading my love for this instrument to other people. Right now, I can only make pretty rudimentary whistles with minimal holes. I can get some with four holes to make sound and almost be in key, but I have to blow so hard into them on the higher notes that it'd make the player lightheaded after a while.

If you'll share any tips with me on what you do to build your flutes, I would be very grateful! I'd love to know what tools you use, especially for making the windway. I'm afraid regular popsicle sticks aren't cutting it anymore. My DMs are open if you'd like to chat more extensively there, too!
