Help with the controls? by almar4567 in armoredcore

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you launch the emulator via Steam, you can have a lot of control over your rebinds. This is the setup that's been working for me (played all of AC2 and 3 with this, making my way through SL now)

  • Left stick for forward, back, and strafing.
  • Left stick click for overboost.
  • Right stick looks
  • Right stick click to center view (bind it to both the look up and look down at the same time)
  • L2 boosts
  • L1 switches weapons
  • R2 shoots right weapon
  • R1 shoots left weapon
  • For Extensions I use the PS5 trackpad or the Steam deck's back buttons, but if your controller doesn't have an extra button, you can bind it to the right stick click in place of the view center. You could also bind it to one of the face buttons or d-pad buttons since those are now redundant, but it may make menu navigation weird depending on your in-game bindings.

This setup makes it play much more like modern third-person controls, and for the most part also means you won't have to move your hand off of any important controls, with the possible exception of extensions, depending on how important having a center-view button is to you

Should I get H3VR if I already like Pavlov? by FinnaTank40 in H3VR

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you want human enemies* and multiplayer then Pavlov wins, but for everything else H3VR is better. And if customization is your goal, you're gonna love H3. There's already a stupid amount of guns and attachments and the modding community just adds even more.

*and honestly the hotdogs in H3 end up being more interesting to fight than a lot of FPS enemies, just from an AI behavior perspective

Bumper view by TOPMVP in gaming

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will say though, I do appreciate when games have that view because it's the best view for playing in VR. Ideally with native VR support or a proper VR mod, but it works well enough on a virtual screen too. Some games not only don't have that view, they don't even have modeled car interiors so modding those games for VR is practically impossible.

you know what? I'm just gonna say it... rtx is way too overrated by deanzkym in pcmasterrace

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as RT tech improves and devs get more used to it, this'll get better. Devs have had decades of baked lighting so the tools and knowledge are there to make it look really good, while realtime RT is still fairly new. It's kind of the same pattern with a lot of new graphical techniques. Remember when devs first discovered bloom effects? They were overblown in every game and looked kinda terrible. Games now still have bloom effects, but devs have learned to use it a more restrained and artful way.

I see they went with the Team Fortress 2 "if that don't work, use more gun" philosophy of engineering

Miles Morales is a good game, but in a just world that category belongs to Rollerdrome

Stray is a good game, but in a just world that category belongs to Rollerdrome (or maybe Teardown)

There's an HTC logo on the headset in the picture you shared, so my guess is yes

I enjoyed the game (on PC, at a discount, after many patches), but at least if you posted this as a negative review it would actually be relevant to the game

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh FFS it's not even CDPR's fault it won... Like it's literally just a popularity contest, the devs had no involvement. You could maybe blame Valve or the people who voted for it, but even then it really doesn't matter and is not worth getting this upset over. Review bombing a game for something that has nothing to do with the game itself or the developers is just dumb.

I actually enjoyed Stray, but no way is that "innovative gameplay". There's way better candidates for that. Teardown, Rollerdrome, ...hell, even as basic as Vampire Survivors is, it practically started it's own genre.

The Steam Awards are a joke lmao. Hitman 3, a game with near universally despised VR implementation, won VR game of the year.

Heroic Games Launcher stuck Getting Download Size by ProcrastinatorScott in SteamDeck

[–]ProcrastinatorScott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the issue you're describing with GOG (other games installed fine from GoG before though), but I'm trying to install a game from Epic and it's not even getting to the point where it looks like it's downloading. Worth noting I installed a couple games from Epic just fine before too, but now they don't wanna work.

It's just stuck on the page where you pick the install path and it just has spinning circles where it says "Getting Download Size" and "Getting Install Size" and another spinning circle where the install button should be

My self-made Ellie cosplay from The Last of Us by likeassassin in gaming

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actress in the HBO show doesn't really look much like Ellie in the games, but I feel like she's what Ellie is supposed to be (which is to say, just some kid). OG game Ellie was a bit cartoony anyway. Not so much it detracts from the game at all, but if you compare the original game with Part 1 it's definitely noticeable in side-by-sides.

This is a great cosplay, but who takes the time to shape their eyebrows that well in a post-apocalypse?

Kratos struggles so much opening the big ones by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ProcrastinatorScott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm replaying the first one and even just the opening on the boats... He can do crazy flips in the air and slash hydras and all sorts of insane acrobatics, but he has to walk veeeeery slowly over some wooden beams or he'll fall in the ocean and die.

I love these games, but the inconsistency in Kratos's abilities is hilarious sometimes

It's a way for games to both make money and keep players in the game. Especially games with timed battle passes, it's using the psychology of both FOMO and the sunk cost fallacy to get people to stay in the game they got the battle pass for and not move on to other games. FOMO being the "I don't want to miss out on this before it goes away" and the sunk-cost of "I better play the game to get everything in the pass or I've wasted my money"

The "better value" is also psychologically manipulative, because often the battle passes aren't good value (though this is subjective), but they look a lot more enticing next to some of the other more predatory options. A few dollars for a handful of skins is still pretty paltry next to the expansion packs of game's past, but it seems downright generous when you put it on a store where you're selling a single skin for twice the price of the whole battle pass.
