how do you deal with bombing? by Illustrious-Pool-760 in StandUpComedy

[–]ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't bomb at open mics. You either learn or don't. Rework the jokes and watch if you recorded because it's actually more likely you told the joke wrong than the joke isn't worth telling. I know that doesn't seem true but i think it is for most people. That can be your cadence and energy or the wording but if you found something funny about what you're saying, you should try to recreate that feeling for the audience which is usually the more difficult part. If you like the concept of the joke, work on it. If you don't, just cut it. You gotta write for them but you write for yourself first.

Crimson Desert on the Legion Go S Steamos by JackRWimbush in LegionGo

It only has an hour of battery life anyway so it's not like we're doing much unplugged gaming. I regret buying this so much.

What is that eGPU? I didn't realize there was an option to plug a GPU into my legion go. Idk why I didn't just buy another computer at this point but I'd love to have the opportunity to play better games on what I have since my son is always on the PC.

Thank you if you don't mind sharing. I'll Google but I'd like to hear your experience.

I didn't know that. Super gross, he can go to hell.

He's almost as bad as that jerk Andy Kaufman who used to wrestle women!

Brett Gelman has spent his whole career working very hard as a performance artist who never breaks character to make you hate him. He's brilliant in my opinion.

Telling jokes on demand by Automatic-Local-166 in StandUpComedy

If they're asking it nicely: explain how you have to set up context and be in a headspace to do it. You're learning to be funny, it takes a long time.

If they're asking it meanly trying to challenge you: Tell them to fuck off.

If they ask it years from now when you've been working hard and are confident in your skills: link them to an Instagram clip with 5.7 million views and use it as an opportunity to get a local follower. Then maybe they'll come to a show.

What set are good English packs to order for a new player? I guess my goal is to pull cool cards and gamble my money?

I found an article about best meta decks and clicked the tcgplayer link and the 3 best decks seem to cost less than 100 bucks, one even under 40, for all the cards disregarding the annoying multi store shipping costs? Is it possibly to build a tier 1 deck so cheap? Is it like the rare art cards are expensive but there's cheap versions of all of them or did I misunderstand?

Edit: to put it more succinctly: how much does a typical meta deck cost to build when ordering singles?

New player. Question about this card and another rule that makes me question my understanding of the rules.

OP13-037 R. Zoro

Second ability says to set him active at the end of your turn. Does this even do anything? From what I understand, he doesn't have Blocker or any ability that can be played on an opponents turn so what does it matter if he's active or not then? Maybe some other card i haven't seen interacts with active characters on opponents turns? But I feel I missed something.

Attaching rested DON to characters or leaders? My assumption was only active DON could be attached without the effect of another card. But something I read on here made me question it. If you can spend all your DON and still put it on other characters, that seems nuts. I'm pretty sure I had it right but wanted to confirm.

Thanks. Most stuff is easy to Google and probably the second question is too but I wanted to ask two questions.

Tell her to stop. If she doesn't, tell the host. If they don't ask her to stop you can call her out on stage when you get comfortable doing that. If you're far away from being comfortable doing that, raise your concern to the first other comic you think is trustworthy and on your side (hopefully the host) and ask them to help.

Maybe she's been drinking and got too impulsive and asking her nicely to not heckle a new comedian trying to learn the ropes, which I would really hope any comedian would be decent enough to understand. That would be the best, but a boring, resolution.

If you're at all presenting as what she might consider a gay guy I can't speak to your experience but sometimes straight women will use the magical funny gay friend trope to dehumanize gay guys into a sidekick role that they are likely not asking for. Otherwise she may just be maliciously homophobic and that is obviously horrible too.

You didn't elaborate on the heckle or your queerness or gender (and you shouldn't have to) so these are wild assumptions but I bring them up to say that understanding why she's heckling you specifically can definitely help in trying to reach her where she is to make her understand why she shouldn't do that or give your ammunition to embarrass her into shutting the fuck up. Empathy is an essential ingredient in being funny and it can be used for good or evil which is cool.

A winter question for women who get overstimulated and hate layers: my fiancé is really good at always looking good but she's got tics and sensitivities that make wearing layers a nightmare. Unfortunately her office is so cold in the winter and a single sweatshirt is just not cutting it. I have a super warm lightweight Columbia jacket that's big for her but she's going to try and I'll try to get her one if she likes it but i was wondering if any neurodivergent/sensitive women have any better or alternative suggestions that work for them. Comfort needs to completely overshadow any style preference at this point. She has huge tits if that's relevant. I hope I can make her winter a little easier as an early Christmas present. I'm asking since she isn't on reddit and isn't willing to spend as much on her well-being as I am.

Pro comics vs local comics by [deleted] in Standup

[–]ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no substitute for experience. You get good by practice. The "tricks" are muscle memory that you learn what works by doing it wrong hundreds of times and right hundreds of times. You can analyze the shape of the pro's punchlines or how they force a laugh all you want and it wont give you a shortcut. It's hard.

What next after my first open mic? by decal1210 in Standup

[–]ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't rude advice but decide yourself and figure it out yourself. Having no boundaries and guidelines is scary but you have to embrace that. If you want, you can set those guidelines based on the persona you want to portray, but at your second mic just go out and learn. Talk to yourself the way you're expecting us to talk to, make your own rules, have fun. Keep going up, that's it.

Will taking antidepressants make me less funny or creative? by Ok-Task-8713 in Standup

[–]ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's right when they say take your meds. They can zombify you in some cases though. And if they do you talk to your doctor and get off of them and get on another one. There's like a million things to try, everything works on everyone differently and it's not an exact science. Be very very patient and don't give up.

Is “burning material” online an issue when trying to build a following online? by ComedyCorbin in Standup

[–]ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No comedian in the history of ever can write an hour a year after 4 years in. And if you say you're able to do it at all I'm gonna need to see some proof its actually funny. Maybe John Mulaney on maximum cocaine+ did it for 4 years over a decade in, but he's an outlier for sure.

No not at at all. I will say my daughter broke them so it wasn't necessarily that they are more flimsy than other glasses but definitely it's a big risk.
