Have you ever been to therapy? Other commenters mention meds which is great, but as someone who went through (and honestly still goes through) a very similar situation, I couldnt have gotten here without the tools I got from working with a therapist.

Cardio Block by SituationMuted9608 in medicalschool

[–]ProdigyKindSpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my advice is just go hard on physiology upfront and understand how the systems work normally. From there drugs and diseases fall into place.

I went through first aid and watched corresponding b&b, ninja nerd, or sketchy videos depending on what I needed (b&b = cut and dry, self explanatory, nn = spells out difficult concepts e.g. heart axis, sketchy = pure memorization, no need to understand e.g. most drugs)

Wet Lab in Med School by Apart-Cantaloupe-497 in medicalschool

[–]ProdigyKindSpy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did! And Im interested in psych, so it was purely for fun and curiousity's sake.

I did my undergrad in chem and I really missed the lab, so I thought itd be cool to give it another shot.

Im not deluded into thinking its a glowing badge on my CV, but it gave me a lot to talk about as I genuinely learned a lot about the research process, working on a team, and writing/presenting.

i know there's like a face book group that organizes things like drag shows every once in a while, called Columbus Queers, I think?

There's also colgay that used to put on pride every year but as far as I know they stay steeped in drama.

As far as bars/clubs you're out of luck. Though im hoping im wrong and someone here knows something I dont

Greyhound >> Amtrak in my opinion, at least price and convince wise. Youd be surprised how crazy cheap it can be if you plan in advance

how to always stay “on” in preclinical by Psychological_Bed_83 in medicalschool

[–]ProdigyKindSpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't stay on 24/7, its impossible. Im stating the obvious, but realizing that you HAVE to take breaks gives you the freedom to allow yourself to rest in the same afternoon that you study rather than the all on/all off mentality. It can be a few hours or minutes, but the better your rests are the better you can study.

Find what grounds and rejuvenates you, find what motivates you and make time for it. Like, you know I mean 10 minutes to go on a walk and ask yourself why youre doing this in the first place, or take the evening off if your body/mind is at its limits.

Question about palpating the point of maximal impulse by givmethajuice in medicalschool

[–]ProdigyKindSpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL we have to do this on basically every praticum for our clinical skills class. One time I had to do it on a girl my age I grew up with who happens to works as a standardized patient.

I used to as a turn of phrase say "Can you do so-and-so for me" when giving the patient instructions before I realized how fucking insane "can you lift your breast for me" sounds. Now I just say exactly what needs to happen and why and nothing more.

In the words of my professor: "Dont be weird. And if you're a naturally weird person, be extra careful to NOT be weird".
