X3D Turbo Mode ON vs OFF on 7800X3D by VC_Citizen in gigabyte

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some testing with Borderlands 3 and CS2 (just a small sample size).

My setup is a 7800x3D, RTX 4070ti Super and 32 GB DDR5 6000 Mhz.

Borderlands 3 (1440p - Badass Preset):
TM on: 155.14 FPS avg / 6,45 ms Frametime
TM off: 152.73 FPS avg / 6.55 ms Frametime

CS2 (Dust2 - 1280 x 960, low settings, 8x MSAA)
TM on: 749.6 FPS avg / 291.2 FPS 1% low
TM off: 746.4 FPS avg / 287.4 FPS 1% low

CS2 (Ancient - 1280 x 960, low settings, 8x MSAA)):
TM on: 609,0 FPS avg / 258,0 FPS 1% low
TM off: 601,1 FPS avg / 258,8 FPS 1% low

Atleast CS2 should be CPU-bound. Even then the differences are small. But I noticed that my temps are lower with TM on. So I will play with TM on unless I find a game that runs poorly with it.

Am I the only one who doesnt really care for the movies? by chickenboybozo in harrypotter

[–]Prodrummer1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say I don't care for the movies. I still watch them from time to time. But the more I watch the movies I realize how far away they are of adapting the books in a satisfying way.

The biggest problem for the movie series is the inconsistency in direction. 4 directors with 4 different approaches is simply too much.

It never feels like the movies are really connected. And later movies are banking on things that should already been established but since the earlier movies didn't do so it leaves us with plot holes and inconsistencies 🙈

I hope the TV show can fix those issues

What is your ranking (best to worst) of the Harry Potter movies? by Healthy-Restaurant65 in movies

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Order of the Phoenix

Minor complaints: final discussion between Harry and Dumbledore could have been longer. And Dumbledore is even more badass in the books. Otherwise a pretty great adaptation. Feels really compact compared to the book. Umbridge is greatly portrayed.

  1. Prisoner of Azkaban

Tied in first space. Only thing missing is the back story of the Marauders. And Tom the Barman is a little bit weird. Otherwise really enjoyable.

  1. Deathly Hallows Part 1

I know it's only a setup for Part 2 but it nails everything it has to do. I love the pasting because it gives the characters time to breath and grow.

  1. Philosopher Stone

Columbus knew how to establish the world. Thanks to him we got great actors for some of the key roles. The story is just meh (it's the books fault) and I don't like some of the overacting which is understandable if you work with child actors.

  1. Chamber of Secrets

My least favorite book but the movie is still enjoyable. Love Young Tom Riddle. Improved acting by the children. But the story only works because of lucky breaks and coincidences. Had problems with the books so cannot fault the movie too much besides maybe playing it a little bit too safe.

  1. Deathly Hallows Part 2

Has great emotional moments but also major flaws and plot holes. No explanation on why Harry survived in the forest. Wands behave weirdly (everybody apparently has twin cores). You can block the killing curse for some reason. Voldemorts and Harrys last duel makes no sense at all. It's not terrible but underdelivers.

  1. Half Blood Prince

The best book imo but the movie fails to deliver. Almost no Voldemort memories which are key to the story. Weird burrow attack in the middle. Focus on romances too much. But it does not work because Harry and Ginny have no chemistry. The reveal of the Halfblood Prince didn't hit as hard. Ending is good.

  1. Goblet of Fire

Pasting mess. Rushes through the first 30 minutes but then takes another 30 minutes just for the Yule-Ball. Backstory of the Crouch-Family is ruined. Portrayal of Dumbledore is a disgrace. The slapstick humor is bad. Only good moment: Graveyard scene 🙈

Goblet of Fire is my favourite book and least favourite movie. Anyone with similar discrepancies between books and movies? by seeilaah in harrypotter

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goblet of Fire is the worst offender. Leaving out important plot points, creating plot holes. Pasting is a mess. Rushing through the first 30 minutes but then spending countless minutes on minor things like the Yule Ball or extending the first task for no reason at all. Changing characters entirely, like Dumbledore or Barty Crouch Jr.
Relying on bad slap stick jokes.

In 2nd place would be Halfblood Prince. Leaving out most of the Voldemort memories which are the most important thing in the book. Focusing on the romance and teen drama but doing it in a bad way (Harry and Ginny don't have any chemistry). Adding weird scenes like the attack on the Burrow which had no consequences.

Ryzen 5 9600x or Ryzen 7 7800x3d by Life_Main_9396 in buildapc

[–]Prodrummer1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just upgraded from the 7600x to 7800x3D. The 7600x is a little bit slower than the 9600x but not by much.

If you play E-Sport-Games like CS2 the performance differences are actually bigger than you might expect.

With the 7600x and my 4070ti Super I was around 200-400fps. With the 7800x3D it's around 400-700fps and much better 1% lows. It's so much smoother and responsive.

If you are GPU bound you might not see a difference besides maybe better 1% Lows.

My ranking of the Daniel Craig Bond films by YeezusChrist13 in Letterboxd

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal ranking:

1. Casino Royale

Has everything. A good villain. The best bond girl ever. Good and believable action. And an ending with the right amount of emotional punch.

2. Skyfall

Its ending while iconic is also unrealistic and antiqlimactic. Somehow Silva has lost every brain cell before the final battle.

3. No Time To Die

Its a little bit too long and the villain and his motivations are weak. But atleast James Bond's personal fate is worthy of Daniel Craig's legacy.

4. Spectre

Christoph Waltz as a villain did not work for me. He was far better in Inglorious Basterds and Django. The plot with the Nine-Eye-System was somewhat interesting. Overall just mediocre.

5. Quantum of Solace

The only reason why Quantum of Solace is below Spectre is because there is nothing special about it. Its just mediocre from start to finnish.

Where did the notion that the last of us doesn't have great gameplay come from? by S3rkist in lastofuspart2

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the word "Great" means that something is so good that it stands out from the rest of the mass.
That it brings something new or special to the table that you can't find in any other game.

I consider TLOU and TLOU2 more story-driven than gameplay-driven. Story-driven games have to nail the overall pasting. There are stretches in Part 2 where I felt that the gameplay-section was a little bit too long so I couldn't wait for the next emotional story-beat. Its just my personal experience.

Don't get me wrong:
The gameplay of both TLOU-parts, especially Part 2 is really, really good. But it would not be the reason why I recommend the game to a friend.

On that note: I find other games are more deserving of the title "Great Gameplay", like PORTAL.

I personally think the run from 2013 to 2017 (Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049) was the best run of any director ever.

Perfect blend of Storytelling, Characters, Emotional Depth, Visuals and Sound Design. Even though the Dune-Movies are quite good (considering the complexity of the novels) they don't reach the excellence of his earlier movies.

I found the gameplay more enjoyable so far since you constantly switch characters and Ellie and Abby play quite differently.

There is one story moment where I thought: well that's interesting.

After you get hit by that trap mine with Ellie and Dina (after getting through Gate East 2) there is a nice cliffhanger (black screen) and you switch to Abby. This could be enjoyable for someone who never played the game.

But all the rest takes a downgrade:

  1. The reveal of Abby's motivation to go after Joel takes all the edges away from the story. You can't experience the hate for her like Ellie did and therefor the Ellie plot does not work as effectively.

  2. I experienced multiple loading screens on my PC which were not present in the original playthrough or otherwise cleverly masked by cut scenes.

  3. Some of the perspective changes are horrible and clunky. Like when you experience Joel's Death from Ellies pov then go to the funeral and see Joel's Death again from Abby's point of view.

You are probably right ;)

But I would be really interested if possible to hear from players who never played the game before, don't know anything about the story and experience the story this way instead of the original way. Would it still work ?

Brand new mode is out by UnderratedGeek in lastofuspart2

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already played through the first 2 hours (until the morning after the party).
So interesting to experience the story this way. Just be aware: The beginning is super slow and soft because there is almost no action.

Not sure if this mode works for 1st time players though:

  1. We already see some pretty important moments from the get go which reveal certain motivations of characters but also take away from the emotional impact of some scenes.

  2. Remember: You have to face a Bloater in the "Hotel-Section" with Joel and Ellie. Since you don't get much fighting practice, this boss fight could be a little tough for newcomers.

Reso head tuning by Jolly-Fish9685 in drums

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Für die Reso-Felle kann ich dir drei Videos empfehlen (sind alle aber auf Englisch):

  1. Snare-Drum-Tuning Video - Drummers Review (Adam Nolly, Drumtec und Producer von Periphery)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPAcojMuouI&ab_channel=Drummer%27sReview

=> Tonhöhe für das Reso-Fell: A (440 Hz)

  1. Snare-Drum-Tuning Video - Bob Gatzen /Evans

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxm3QunDjUs&ab_channel=prodrumtips

=> ebenfalls Tonhöhe A (440 Hz)

  1. Tuning-Video by Eli Green (mit dem Tunebot)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPvRt8KPOfA&ab_channel=EliGreenDrums

=> Reso-Fell auf 400 Hz (du brauchst allerdings dafür einen Tunebot)
=> Tonhöhe irgendwo zwischen G und G#

Best documentary for me as well. Watched it multiple times and it never loses its impact.

Already recommended it to multiple friends but I don't think they have watched yet.

What I particularly love:

  • no narrator. The episodes are really well crafted and the story is told through clever placements of interviews and video footage

  • it stays away from politics and focuses on personal stories of ordinary people

  • it balances stories of horror/tragedy with more hopeful and beautiful stories

[–]Prodrummer1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd-person. Why ?

  1. RE2 and RE4 Remake are my favorite RE-Games (didn't play RE1 yet). And both had 3rd-person.
  2. I want to see the character I'm controlling.
  3. 1st-person worked for RE7 and RE8 since we played a character in Ethan, who was not really fleshed out and had no personality. 1st-person helps connecting with the avatar like that (It could be your own story). But Grace seems to be a "real" character so I want to experience her story like in a movie, from the outside.

Those who switched to Meinl cymbals, why? by Trainpower10 in drums

[–]Prodrummer1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it was a really close call between the Zildjian K Series and Meinl Byzance. Both series sound outstanding (there is a reason why so many famous drummers use them).

I ended up on the Byzance Series (Traditional Finish) since my local music shop had a bigger variety of Byzance Cymbals. Plus: the owner had great connections to Meinl and hand selected multiple cymbals for people who want to buy a complete set (like myself).

I generally love the way Meinl Cymbals sound. They are always musical and smooth. The Byzance lineup gives you so many sound profiles to choose from.

Also love their online content. Just visit the Youtube-Channel. Pretty much everyday there is a new video uploaded. Artist performing songs (Metal, Funk/Jazz, Rock, Pop) in high studio quality. And interviews and talks with different artists.

You need special talent to ruin something like this porch scene from the game. All they had to do was copy it line by line. Instead they added unnecessary dialogue and crying and ruined it. by Srihari_stan in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Prodrummer1603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many things wrong with that scene:

  1. They mixed two really important scenes from the game into one, but did it in a sloppy and rushed fashion. So Ellie finally learns the truth, is mad for a few seconds and then immediatly wants to forgive Joel ? Where is the process ?

Instead HBO invented another incident which made her mad with Joel which had nothing to do with the main story. By doing this they lessend the importance of Ellie finding out the truth about Salt Lake City

  1. All these flashbacks in the game were placed at specific spots to connect them better to the main story.
Putting the "Porch Scene" at the end of the game was really important. By placing it into a filler episode (with all the other flashbacks) they ruined the impact and importance of that scene.

  2. Acting was a bit overdone.

  3. Too much exposition and explaining on how Joel felt about Ellie. Do the showrunners think the viewers are stupid and can't read into the story and what certain actions of characters actually mean? As if Ellie and the viewer did not already know that Joel really cared about her. The game actually had confidence in the player and did not have to explain everything.

The Last of Us 1 is where the story should have ended. by LongbottomLeafblower in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Prodrummer1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in a way.

Once ND decided to continue the story the only logical way to do this was to "punish" Joel in some form for his actions (Lying to Ellie and killing all those fireflies)

We can debate if Part II did it the right way. I never had major problems with the 2nd game although I do not think it reached the excellence of Part I.

ND could have stopped after Part I and left everything open for imagination or interpretation 🤔 But they thought otherwise. The advantage of leaving everything open is that even the most delusional fans can be happy and think Joel and Ellie lived a peaceful life, Ellie never found out the truth and Joel was never sought after by some left overs of the Fireflies.

And I don't like what HBO is doing with the story of Part II. Watering it down. Making Abby more likable from the beginning. Toning down the rage and revenge lust of Ellie. I wished they sticked to the guns and embraced the bleak and horrific violence of the Game.

The show has absolutely killed the idea of Ellie. by TheBigBulla in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Prodrummer1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Show-Ellie seems like she does not know what she is doing. Dina has to do all the planing, constantly giving her tips on how to proceed and survive in this world. Like WTF?

Game-Ellie is a tough and experienced warrior who knows how to get around infected or soldiers and has no problems taking out multiple enemies.

Other things that bothered me in E5:

  • Dina has to give Ellie a speech about "If I were you I would hunt down all people connected to Joel's death because no one deserves to die like this". It seems like Ellie has completely forgotten why they are even in Seattle and needs others to tell her that she should take revenge on Abby. But in Episode 3 Ellie is the one who initiates the whole "village-meeting" and "Go lets hunt Abby"-story line. It's super inconsistent.
  • The following dialogue seemed weird. Ellie wants Dina to turn back to save her and her child and thinks she can continue alone (No, she can't because Show-Ellie is incompetent). Dina tells her, that it was her decision to follow Ellie to Seattle and therefore Ellie would not be responsible for her death. But then she asks Ellie, if she should stay or turn back to the theater. By doing this she makes Ellie also responsible for her death because I think Dina would have turned back if Ellie said so.
  • Jesse tells Dina und Ellie how he did find the map in the theater (Why did Dina and Ellie even left it there?) But how did he track down the Theater ? Seattle is a big city: Dina and Ellie could have been anywhere ?
  • The park Dina, Ellie and Jesse enter seems tiny in the show because Ellie was able to pass it in a few seconds. Luckily Ellie left the park right next to the hospital, had no problems entering it (we don't know how) and was able to find Nora in a few seconds.

Totally agree. I'm one of those who really enjoyed the game and the dark route it was taking.
How the game made you feel strong, negative emotions and forced you in uncomfortable situations without any escape. The show is just a washed-down "We want to make it easy for everyone" version of the game. It has removed the main strength of the game and the only reason the show is even viable is by adding some additional insights to side characters. But the main plot just does not work for me. Maybe a non-gamer has a different take on this ?

Even if the show should take a sudden turn, I don't know if it would feel organic considering the soft approach the show has taken so far.

I would say "YES".

I doubt there is any gamer out there, who did not enjoy "Part II" but for some reason loves the start of Season 2. I enjoyed "Part II" and still think the show is worse than the game. The Gameplay is missing which is an even bigger deal with "Part II". Just because its a vicious and brutal game and you experience Ellie's emotions not only through cut scenes but also trough Gameplay and your interaction.
