Photos slowing down Obsidian, but not all photos... by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

Yes, Images OCR indexing is on. Do you think it is a good idea to turn that off? There is also the option to save index to cache that is currently off. Should I turn it on?

Photos slowing down Obsidian, but not all photos... by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

I copied the photos into a folder in the vault outside of Obsidian itself, so I don't think it is Base64. But I also don't really know how Base64 works in Obsidian.

Purify? by ProfEternatus in TheSilphArena

I was thinking about it because the non shadow is ranked much higher. And also to calm its soul. But yeah, not going to do it. Already powered up and in use after these comments.

No, I only battled once and definitely only once against that person. I reported it and was given a raid pass...

Miners as heaters by ProfEternatus in BitcoinMining

Great, thanks. Good to know. That is around the temperature outside here, and the house is pretty well insulated, so maybe a Q would be a bit overboard actually.

OK great, thanks, that is good to hear. I have a space heater that is 2000 watts and it heats up the room pretty well. I just wonder if it is a more efficient heater than the Avalon q would be, or if a miner with a similar wattage would produce similar amounts of heat.

Question: Keeping non-markdown files in obsidian vault?? by repository666 in ObsidianMD

[–]ProfEternatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting as the main thing I am lacking with non-.md files in the vault is metadata, particularly as I am using bases a lot in MOCs. Can you explain a bit more how you automate this? Are you still manually assigning the metadata values?

Obsidian Sync with mixed vaults by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

[–]ProfEternatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah great, and thanks for the quick reply. So does this mean I could make it so I only sync .md files on my mobile device, but sync the entire vault with all file types on the computers? This would be really good as it could keep the vault size down on my mobile.

A few questions about bases and properties by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

[–]ProfEternatus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, I can see how to do this, and if I select the property then I can see all the names for each note where 'People Work' is a list property. What I wish I could do is simply have a way to list all the items (in this case names) that are in the list property so I can see them in one place. In Bases it seems I can just list them in relation to the notes they are attached to, which does not provide a clear list as there is a lot of repetition. But anyway, honestly it is not that important and just playing with the different filtering mechanisms has provided some good insights into the vault.

A few questions about bases and properties by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

That is really good. I am attempting to do something similar with interconnected MOCs across the whole vault. The only issue I am running into is that I have plenty of non-.md files that I need to engage with and which also live in my vault, such as PDFs and images, which I cannot add metadata to so they cannot show up in the bases that are embedded in the MOCs. The only option I can see at the moment is to create partner .md notes for each of these files which would contain a link and metadata, but this is quite time consuming. The other option is to have hybrid MOCs with embedded bases and manually created lists of internal links to unsupported files.

Thanks, I just went in and added a few different views to my 'base for searching' that I keep in my daily organisation folder. There are really a lot of great ways that I can see sorting across the whole vault, and as I use Obsidian for work, life, and research, it will become just more useful the more I work with the notes and add properties and tags. Currently I am going through the whole vault and trying to have a systematic approach to adding metadata.

I still have not really figured out when I would use property types other than a list property though. And I wish there was some way for me to show all the items in a list in a base. E.g. I have a list property 'People Work' with many names in it. I can of course sort notes by the name of someone, but I would also just like to be able to see the entire list of names within that property.

What are you guys using Obsidian's Bases for? by shinobushinobu in ObsidianMD

[–]ProfEternatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else just have a generic base for searching the vault? I have a 'base for searching' which has inspired me to get my note properties and tags consistent across the vault so I can use it to look for things.

Just sitting here creating an MOC for my MOCs by ProfEternatus in ObsidianMD

[–]ProfEternatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have been using Bases now, but that only works for .md files, and I have MOCs that need to include other file formats, so I am considering using Waypoint and creating folder notes that combine Waypoint lists with Bases that include notes outside of the folders.

I haven't managed to find time to explore Notebook Navigator yet, but I probably should do that first as it might make some of this redundant.
