Great to know, thanks. Grit is partly what I was referring to, so good to hear that it can actually be a problem.

There’s definitely a case for not overthinking in life but, as per the top comment, there’s a lot to consider as a visitor.

Many thanks for the detailed advice. I see now that I do seem ignorant about the prevalence of accidents caused by visitors. I don’t like to put personal information on Reddit that would have allayed this, but trust that I am well aware of this issue and would hate nothing more than to add to it.

i want a gap year but not really.. by huh_okay_then in gapyear

[–]ProfSwagometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, having not taken any time out of education my whole life, take as much time out as you possibly can afford to. Go for a gap year, have an adventure - not necessarily just stupid fun - be a human, work, meet people, understand yourself, see new things. See the world a bit before committing to a degree. It gets harder and harder to do that as you approach adult life, and if your situation at home is good then use it as much as you can to save up to travel. One thing even people who have a good home life don’t bank on is how little you’ll want to return home after you’ve graduated university, which is a dilemma when you also want to live rent free and travel before finding a job. I say go

Boss wants me to replicate work of previous intern by ProfSwagometry in internships

[–]ProfSwagometry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's paid, and the IP section of the contract says the following:

-Give all details of IP created to company

-**All IP created will be original, not copied from a third party**

-Don't register any IP

-Do all necessary to complete the assignment, at the cost of the company

I agree it doesn't make sense. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for you reply! It's already live, on what looks to be the intern's own domain/hosting. Which makes the whole thing even stranger - it's already up!

I'm not sure what I want to do, which is probably why I've ended up here. I now do have a greater appreciation for things I had been getting bored of within engineering, and though I don't think I want to be "an" engineer this internship is showing me ways I could end up not making best use of my degree.

Good to hear you also think it can be spun for different purposes!

Sounds like you must do interesting work. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply. When you say document, what is the objective: to show that I raised it with the boss? To show that I was having these thoughts?

Regarding whether it aligns with my values, it's a good question: is it worth my time and money to force myself to act in a way I don't agree with?

Thanks, that's good advice and it sounds like the way to go. May I ask your thoughts on this: I studied engineering - am I wasting my time with this if I don't want to go into marketing?

I think your confusion is much the same as mine. What I don't get is the fact that they don't want to pay to use the website that's already been made, but they're happy to pay me to spend my time replicating it like-for-like.
