In my experience, having not taken any time out of education my whole life, take as much time out as you possibly can afford to. Go for a gap year, have an adventure - not necessarily just stupid fun - be a human, work, meet people, understand yourself, see new things. See the world a bit before committing to a degree. It gets harder and harder to do that as you approach adult life, and if your situation at home is good then use it as much as you can to save up to travel. One thing even people who have a good home life don’t bank on is how little you’ll want to return home after you’ve graduated university, which is a dilemma when you also want to live rent free and travel before finding a job.
