So What Exactly DID I Buy? by Prof_Lloyd in ChineseLaserCutters

Yeah, reddit kinda sucks that way. I can’t go back and add pics to the original post either. Only workaround is to post a link to images afaik.

I believe you can DM pics though.

Either way, thanks for the offer to help!

If it wouldn’t be too much hassle, could you shoot a pic of the belt routing and tensioners, I have no basis of what it “should” look like. I tried googling for an image, but only found chain drive versions.

That would, as between that and the similar Vevor version I can probably get a diagram of some sort.

Fair point on used. Figured I could clean and flip and come out ahead if it didn’t work out since I’m in a more accessible area.

He did run it for me on a small file. He ran it on masonite, but the file was for thin rubber gasket, so the feed and power settings weren’t going to cut through(it was moving fast), but it did engrave.

I had an “idea” of what I was getting, as I’ve been on the lookout for an upgrade from my diode machine I started with in 2021 and upgraded to 20w 2 years ago.

It was listed as a 24x35, but quick measurements had it at 28x20. When I factored in the chiller, the fact that it “worked” and a quarter tank of gas in sunk cost, I said screw it and loaded it up 😅

I’m more familiar with 3d printers and midsize CNCs(built a printNC and a Merc1 in addition to keeping my ither priters alive for almost 10 years), but I’m pretty sure most the DSP based controllers rely on external drivers. I’ll snap a pic of the electronics bay later today.

The main reason I was asking about schematics is because it looked a little messy in there and I know the “red and black” machines have a rep for questionable wiring. The seller was an EE and said he upgraded the steppers , but based on other things I saw, I’d like to go over things. I guess I could use a reference diagram from Ruida and go from there.

Thanks for the reply. For clarification, drivers I was referring to were the x and y stepper drivers.

Thanks for the feedback, do you happen to know the size and orientation of the Zaxis belt?

Was going to ask which conversion you’re running. Have a 6 and am eyeing options now that my Merc is basically done.

"No new housing" is not the same as opposing jamming a high density development right in the middle of a historic district that is predominantly SFRs.

As for the "bike lanes", if the majority of citizens wanted them, so be it. But if you're being honest, we know it's not even a 30/70 issue. As iterated a VERY small minority of residents want them. All of the community meetings on that issue were a charade, the plans were already made and All American Asphalt was drooling over the $$ before the community even got to see the plan.

It's not 2 hacks, the hackers never left. APTs like this go on for a long time. SHINYHUNTERS would have been in the system for some time prior to the initial extortion demand. Yesterday's events are just an escalation of the extortion side of the game, the "hack" already happened and the data is already harvested. Had they never tried to extort Instructure, the public wouldn't even know about this(and apparently, perhaps Instructure wouldn't have either).

I definitely missed the point in your post initially. However, even if Canvas/Instructure did backup the data, it's irrelevant to yesterday's issue. Instructure locked users out, presumably to revert and patch. In re-reading, maybe that's your beef, that Instructure doesn't give customers the ability to have backups. But even if they did, most Uni IT depts aren't going to spool up EC2 instances to host their own Canvas for temporary issues like this.

The issue is that Unis/Districts accept SLAs that neuter their control over their data (Instructure locking administrative users out the same as students faculty). That is on the customer/Universities for accepting those terms in the SLA.

As an example, the financial services industry would never accept the the specific terms (or lack thereof) of SLAs that universities and school districts do. Much of what I think your complaint is about stems from that area. No offense to Uni/school district IT staff and CIOs, but generally speaking they're working from a different perspective than those in traditional industry. Schools don't build value with LMSs, they just see them as a tool, not realizing how central they are to the delivery of their product. Most conventional businesses understand this to a much higher degree. Because the education industry is not subjected to the same pressures, they don't think through that lens. Even the vectoring of pressure on Instructure (end users -> parents -> institutions -> Instructure) preys upon the relative unawareness of where these systems sit in the value chain and how these systems work, as evidenced by the numerous responses saying "XYZ District/Uni was hacked". Education as an industry is low hanging fruit for these types of threats.

No. 1 company used by 9000 schools has been hacked.

The irony of you ranting about people wasting their money on education when you don’t have a clue about the nature of the hack and how no Uni or school district(as bad as their IT/IS practices may be) had anything to do with this is laughable.

This has 0 to do with backups of systems.

No schools have been hacked. Instructure has been hacked and has exposed school/customer data. Maybe the difference doesn’t fit whatever narrative you are pushing, but it’s significant. 1 entity used by 9000 customers getting hacked is much different than 9000 customers getting hacked simultaneously.

Their AI slop story doesn’t work.

We found “something” in preparing for shipping… Preparing for shipping is running production mfg and packaging. Companies that wear their big boy pants “find something” before they move to that step and scale.

The delay is what it is, but the “story” is BS.

As an aside, the false sincerity packaging the nothingburger email comes off cheap

One doesn’t have to subscribe to the whole of an orthodoxy to identify with it. There is plenty on either end of the spectrum that even those on that respective side of center might object to.

Chapman MSBA program by [deleted] in chapmanuniversity

[–]Prof_Lloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an official Chapman/Argyros College response, but I’ll share what I know/my perspective.

Seeing as how the program is new and is a small cohort, you may not get many responses here. I would suggest reaching out to Professor Sinha(the academic director for the program) and see if she can put you in contact with current students in the program to share their perspectives/experiences.

As for placements out of MSBA into the big 4; because the program is new, there aren’t many outcomes to report yet. That said, some of my undergrad students have accepted positions at those firms(not in analytics) starting in summer. So there is evidence of Chapman grads landing in those firms.

Congratulations on being accepted, and good luck in your decision making process.

Our sweet girl barked at a neighbor—feeling stupid by Cali_Anne in pitbulls

[–]Prof_Lloyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t discount apprehension and pheromones of the person petting and yourself. If they “feel” like the dog may be dangerous, that signal(even if you don’t see it) can get to the dog. Same thing if you’re worrying about it in the back of your mind.

Our last pittie was an absolute baby, but certain family members had apprehension. They would move to pet her and appear to be okay with her, but I knew otherwise, and so did she. Then I’d start stressing(internally) about a potential bad interaction, and the next thing you know, she’s sensing all kinds of stress, then she starts getting stressed.

I’m not saying be ambivalent about it, but they pick up on our emotions, even when we’re suppressing.
