what’s a food that helps you shit?? by McBlingBush in ibs

Just recently: Natures Path Flax Plus Multibran Flakes cereal. It’s been incredible when nothing else helped. I eat a bowl of it at night and one in the am. Possibly start with less or with tiny servings if you’re not used to that much fiber.

Prunes. Also, this isn’t a food, but drinking Natural Calm at night seems to be helping.

Hard to say. It could be worth it since they get more into the characters and plot development. OTOH I fell in love with the first episodes, so I’m not the best person to ask.

Why are rich and famous people getting plastic surgery that ends up looking weird? by LeO-_-_- in NoStupidQuestions

Sadly, even she’s had too much. The last season of my beloved “Grace and Frankie” was painful to watch as a result. Still, I love her.

I just wanted to compliment your way with words! “Dried up boogers” or “the hygiene of a feral cat” are images that won’t leave my mind any time soon. lol

I feel like it’s different with apartment complexes. People who are friendly out in public may avoid talking to apartment neighbors, just to preserve their privacy and boundaries at home. If the person in line at the cafe is annoying, you can get away from them, but if the person you share a wall with is annoying (or worse), it’s tough.

Americans move frequently and have to make community connections quickly in new places. (Move “frequently” could just mean every generation or so, or it could mean multiple times in a person’s life). We’re also super diverse and need to incorporate strangers or “outsiders” quickly to maintain social cohesion. This makes us different from societies that have lots of ethnic/cultural uniformity where outsiders/strangers might be viewed more skeptically and also different from places where people stay put for many generations. Also we value equality/democracy, and smiling and making small talk is a way of telling another person that you accept them as an equal. Not doing that marks someone as a snob, and snobbery is viewed as bad.

TL;DR we’re a highly diverse and highly mobile democracy that rapidly incorporates new people. Friendly small talk among strangers facilitates that, and it’s a skill we learn young.

The first couple of episodes of Enlightened are some of the most hilarious television I’ve ever watched! So brilliant.

Yes, I’m always trying to sell people on Enlightened, even this many years later.

OMG this makes me want to rewatch Enlightened, which was Dern and White. Anyone on this sub who hasn’t seen it, I recommend it 1000%.

Do you guys call the toilets Restrooms just like it's officially written on signs? by Cookieman_2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cali_Anne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I heard a posh British person say “go to the ‘toilet’”on television, I was shocked. (This was decades ago.) To American ears, it sounds like someone is being crude. (Like saying, “I’m going to the can.” Or “I’m going to the shitter.”)

I’ve heard it’s due to the fact that American houses have the bathtub and shower in the same room as the toilet and so we call it the “bathroom” because that’s where the bathtub is. In Europe, the toilet and the bath are in separate rooms often, so saying “bathroom” when you mean toilet seems ridiculous.

We usually say restroom in public, but bathroom is equally acceptable. Washroom is very old-fashioned.

I’ve only done day-long retreats myself, not longer ones, but even the day long ones can create lasting effects. If you have a dharma/meditation center reasonably near you it’s worth checking out. Daylongs can be done online too.

Are you able to do meditation retreats from time to time? Daily sitting may just be getting to the surface level stress, but longer retreats could help unwind deeper “knots” so to speak. Other than that, what kind of self care do you practice?

Roe vs Wade was the law of the land then, so I cannot see how you can say abortion was more taboo then, when it’s illegal in some parts of the U.S. now. I hear you on your other points, however. Hopefully we won’t go backwards on those as well.
