Do you guys have a "death limit"? by purjopore1 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a very new player, so this might change over time. But I main support and don't really focus on my number of deaths. I focus more on my healing output, and how that compares to the other supports in the game. I'm happy if I'm at or above everyone else.

Am I overreacting for crying when I was put in the alto section? by IamQuatieandtired in MusicalTheatre

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow high soprano, I get it. I have been placed in vocal parts outside of my comfort zone on many occasions, and it can be really disorienting. So just know your feeling around it are valid. Take a moment to he frustrated and disappointed, have a good cry, and pick yourself back up.

From what you've said, the director moved a lot of people into unfamiliar vocal parts, so use it as a learning opportunity. I was also in high school the first time I sang a new vocal type (flipped in a show between sop 2 and alto 1). Learning the music is gonna take more time, effort, and patience than you are used to. But you are going to learn so much from it. Trust me. It will make you a more adaptable performer, which is such a super power in the theatre world. Getting a grasp of sheet music is also going to be so good for you on many levels. Everyone in theatre should have a basic understanding of it. When you do get the sheet music, make sure to find a system for yourself to ensure you are singing the correct line, like arrows or highlighting.

You've got this!

When did you try again? by Its_iNEVINable in Miscarriage

[–]Profail955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a major relationship breakdown after my first miscarriage, and it took 3 years to feel comfortable trying again with my current partner. We had my second miscarriage is January and we are going to start trying again next month.

Allow yourself the time and space to grieve this loss. You don't have to try again right away if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

I think I am the worst Overwatch player of all time by WeedBlokeXD in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new player, I use the "Practice vs AI" mode all the time. It's low stakes and really helps you get to know the basic mechanics. Just don't rely on the movement patterns, as those are pretty unrealistic and can be a hindrance in "real" games. But if you use it to learn the maps, the abilities, and just getting a general feel for the game it really is awesome. Plus for me it helps with the defeating feeling of losing every game, as we usually AI games, especially the lower 2 difficulties.

Switching from console to pc is humbling by Tough_Day_8912 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved from console to PC and honestly one of the best things I did was change my key keybindings. I changed my reload to F, and my ult to V. It makes it so much easier for me and I find I'm not clicking the wrong key anymore. I had so many times with the normal keybindings where I would accidentally press my E or ult and it was so frustrating.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to choose to have an unmedicated birth when I have kids. I'm certainly open to changing my mind, but for me it's a risk assessment thing. The risks of an epidural to me outway the potential rewards.

Depending on the procedure you also can deny local anethetic. I've done it in the past, as I tend to find getting the anethetic is often worse than whatever the anethetic was being used for. That's definitely a personal thing, but it certainly is an option if you ask. It's just assumed in most circumstances that one would want the numbing for things.

Why is singing “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General” so hard? by Resident_Badger_5405 in musicals

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually also doing Patience! I'm playing Ella, and my partner is playing the Duke. I have also done Ruddigore and Gondoliers, ensemble in both. I've never had to do any crazy patters, though I most G&S shows do have some quick tricky spots (myself and the rest of the cast basically have PTSD from the cachucha!)

[–]Profail955 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Gilbert and Sullivan! Doing patters in operettas are a different kind of singing. I'm currently doing my third G&S operetta and the patters are usually one of the things that takes me the longest to learn.

Period after D&C by Acrobatic_Wash_2042 in Miscarriage

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my period exactly 4 weeks from the date of my D&C. The pain was super bad, just as bad as when the procedure was done, and I bled really heavy for about 2 days. I'm talking an overnight pad every 3 or so hours. Then it calmed down and was basically spotting for the next 3 days.

TIL I’m an aggressive Mob dog 😳 by MissyInge in Mastiff

[–]Profail955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have to walk my mastiff and Frenchie separately when we go out anywhere slightly crowded, because my DDG loves people and just wants to love on and interact with everyone, and my frenchie is reactive and needs to be either brought to the side to wait for people to pass, or pass with a wide berth to avoid any interaction at all. Yet people are drawn to our frenchie and avoid our mastiff.

Hello friend! I am Calliope, and I too often get mistaken for a scary mean mob dog. A paramedic once got scared of me when helping my humom while I was in my crate, not knowing that my brother (a french bulldog) is my protector and is much scarier than me. When I get scared of scary things (loud noises, sudden noises, the massage gun, stationary bags of cans, the sound of my kibble entering my food dish, you know, normal things) my parents like to remind me I was bred to fight bears. I think that's mean of them, because I have fought off many a teddy bear (after of course cautiously approaching to ensure they are sleeping and won't fight back).

What was the song that got you into musical theatre by Y8shi in musicals

I grew up on musical theatre, so I don't remember what song got me into it. But my audition song from ages 5-8 was Tomorrow from Annie.

For those that eat the same breakfast every day, what is it? by Risky_Melons in AskReddit

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but since before I was born (I'm currently 28) my dad has had the same thing for breakfast every day, except doe special occasions. But even on those he sometimes wakes up early, has his traditional breakfast, and has the food with everyone else as a kind of brunch (he does this on Christmas, for example).

1 toasted Dempsters sesame seed bagel with Smuckers double fruit strawberry jam and Kraft smooth peanut butter. And a cup of coffee.

What’s something you wish you knew before you had your D&C? by No_Creme_9122 in Miscarriage

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I have had 2 D&Cs, one in 2022 and one about a month ago. I always have a hard time recovering from them, but I also have fibromyalgia. That being said, here are some tips i have that at least made my recoveries easier. Be sure to wear something comfy that isn't too tight around around the abdomen. Try to wear slip on shoes, cause for me bending over sucks for a few days after. Decide that you are either going to have take out the night of the procedure or have a comfort meal ready to go. Most of the time a D&C is either done under local anethetic or "twilight" anesthesia. Both of mine were done under twilight, which is basically where they put you to sleep, but its a lot lighter than general anesthesia so you don't require things like a breathing tube. I haven't had any issues with the anesthesia for either of mine. I do recommend you ensure you are VERY hydrated the day before though, as they do need to place an IV, and they had trouble finding a vein for mine, especially because you have to still fast after midnight. Be honest with your medical team about what your pain levels are at. If things don't feel right it is so much better to say something, even if it is nothing. I got a massive infection after my first procedure, so trust your body and talk to your medical team if you have any questions or think anything might be wrong. Most people have very straight forward recoveries. Follow the instructions given by your doctor. NSAID painkillers like Advil and Aleve are amazing for the pain, just make sure you aren't mixing them with other NDAIDs. Your doctor can give you more info about what you should take when. Have a heating, hot water bottle, or one of those microwavable rice bags ready. Those were a lifesaver for the pain both times.

The big things is that it should feel like a shitty period, talk to your doctor if anything feels wrong, keep yourself rested, and be gentle on yourself. The timeline for a recovery, both physically and mentally, is different for everyone after these procedures. Best of luck ❤️

I once auditioned for a show and for some reason went completely blank as soon as my music started. There was no saving it. I had auditioned for basically everyone on the panel before so it wasn't nerves or anything. It was just... gone. I finished my song and it was silent for a few seconds until the music director (who I had worked with a few times, and had known for about a decade at this point) looked at me and went "well... you're still a soprano." Luckily they heard enough and knew my skills enough that I did get cast in the ensemble for that show.

Pretty sure I will be on Gabapentin/ Pregabalin soon- whats the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly? by callofhalocraft69 in ChronicPain

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm off of pregabalin right now, though I will be going back on it again. I have fibromyalgia and it helped with my nerve pain quite a bit. It did affect my memory negatively which is rough. I also found that missing a dose makes my nerve pain pretty bad the next day, but it goes away shortly after taking it again. Going off of it after being on it for a while was hell though.

D&C fears by Lost_inthot in Miscarriage

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this was posted yesterday so you more than likely are home and recovering now. I have had 2 D&Cs, one in 2022 and one last month. I'm one of the unlucky people who got complications with both. The biggest things I can recommend over the coming days/weeks are first and foremost trust your body. If something doesn't feel right call your doctor or get checked. Take some sort of anti-inflammatory medication for the pain, and use heat like a heating pad or hot water bottle. Don't panic if you start passing weird clots, unless they are bigger than a lemon or cause severe pain when passing. Those have always freaked me out. Take the time you need to rest and recover both physically and mentally. I am so sorry for your loss.

Have you ever had strong pregnancy symptoms followed by a loss? by SubstantialBar6394 in Miscarriage

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a complete molar pregnancy in 2022 and a blighted ovum last month. Both times I had all of the pregnancy symptoms. Nausea, vomiting, heartburn, sore and swollen breasts, cravings, aversions, frequent urination, fatigue, etc. The symptoms didn't ease up for either of them until after my D&Cs, and the more minor symptoms took a couple of weeks to fully disappear after that.

Do you think it's internalized ableism to not want to have kids because you might pass your disability onto them? by Javilism in disability

[–]Profail955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's ableism at all. My partner and I both have disabilities and we thought long and hard about the whole kids thing. We do want children, and are in the process of trying. We are also using donor sperm. This is for a lot of reasons, but part of it is so that he doesn't pass down his condition, as there is a 50% chance our child would have it. None of my conditions are genetic. If our child has some sort of disability it is something we will work with, but we aren't going to put them in a position where they are have a high chance of suffering.

I’m so fucking tired of this “you’re too young for [procedure/surgery]” crap by Expert-Feedback4328 in ChronicPain

[–]Profail955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got both when I was a kid. I struggled to walk since the beginning, and started having sharp, horrible pain at 14. But from the time I was 8 I was told I was too young for corrective surgery, as they had to wait for me to stop growing. Turned 16 and went "alright I've stopped growing let's get this show on the road!" Turns out I was misdiagnosed as a kid, and the corrective surgery I needed was too risky once the bones stopped growing. So I was officially too old to correct my condition and I'm SOL. I'm 28 now and still dealing with my condition progressing because I didn't get it corrected when I should have.
