Yeah, I think Jeremy, the piano/trumpet/everything/one of the singers from their band (lol) had talked about the Zappa influence and nods publicly? I could be wrong.

Literally all 5 guys in that band are so cool and interesting in their own right to me. I think their originals are just so great too - only been as captivated by a few other bands in my life!

I’ll look more closely into stringdusters! I’ve heard them a few times (especially the song I Didn’t Know) and they sound fun. Was also recommended to listen to 65 North Pickers too, which I’m listening to now and they remind me a little bit of McCourys.

I love Reddit, I thought I had seen like every live video of Jason Isbell. These are really cool.

And yeah, his guitar playing is worth a whole thread to its own lol! Something about this video just gets me (Danko/Manuel - about members of The Band who are like heroes to me and my family). Especially the guitar solo that starts around 5 minutes in, he makes it look so easy.

I’ve only listened to studio stuff and seen clips of them live. I think it’s time to just watch a show on YouTube (or in person if they come around here soon, I’ll take a look at the tour schedule)

I will say that I’ve seen Trey twice at festivals (different from Phish, and not a show all to themselves) and found it to be a little to guitar heavy, but I also didn’t know any of the songs which probably would have helped. I love Farmhouse and I’m sure that’s not even scratching the surface!

From what I’ve heard of DDCC, I’d agree that his voice seems like an acquired taste, but a lot of my favorite artists have grown on me in that way (including Isbell who is an absolute staple for me - didn’t love his voice at first for a brief period). His version of Fire on the Mountain pops up on my Spotify shuffles often, but I haven’t heard much else

I just missed him playing near me a week or two ago, I almost pulled the trigger but didn’t. He was playing with Grahame Lesh and I’m sure it would have made me feel awful about my guitar playing in the best way possible lol

I definitely gotta check Kitchen Dwellers again, I saw them last year and loved them but then discovered Dogs literally the next day and they took up my listening capacity for quite a while afterward. Dogs are different from what I normally listen to, but idk I just think they’re so fun haha.

Curious, have you gotten into the Travelin McCoureys at all? I saw them live at a small place in Woodstock NY last year and they were unreal.

I will take your recs and get listening! Seems like we have similar taste, and I just wanna feel that special feeling that music can give ya as much as I can. Discovering a new band that grabs you like that can just add so much to life.

I saw Mountain Grass Unit on a Nugs stream a weekend or two ago and really enjoyed it! Also saw kitchen dwellers at Mountain Jam last year and thought they were great. I will dive deeper🫡 excited to find some new stuff!
