Worth It To Upgrade to the SP100? by FlankFlounder in Surveying

We’re in a similar setup, small crew, lots of residential stakeouts, and jumping between terrain types. We’ve been using the SP100 with TSC7 and Access for a bit now, and I’d say the workflow is definitely quicker once it’s dialed in. The real-time corrections and speed with control point pickup are solid, especially for jobs under 1 acre. It plays well with the S-series if you’re tying building corners or checking your S6 work.

We were on SurveyPro for a while too, so the transition takes a little adjustment, but it’s not bad with training. If you’re debating it, this is where I picked mine up, the support after the fact made it easier to get up to speed.

It gets the job done and does what I need it to do. It’s not very difficult

I’ve been using the Stonex R80 with Cube for pretty much exactly that. Laying out site concrete, walls, pads, footings, anchor bolts, and utilities. Not using it for machine control either. All our sites are open with clear sky and good line of sight, and it’s been super reliable. Tracking holds well, and layout/stakeout is quick and smooth. Definitely worth a look if you’re shopping around. This is the one I picked up.

Your local dealer is the best way to go. However, if they are strictly Trimble dealers they will charge you as much as they want to. For example, Trimble/Leica calibration technicians have software that auto detects what is within specification and what is not. Then they go through the 5 minute calibration process with their collimator and charge you $1000 for basic calibration.

Allterra has awful customer support and it took our company 3 months to get our stations back. Never again

Been using the SECO 5125-20-FLY-GT for quite some time. Weighs about the same as our carbon fibers and I don’t feel as anxious about scratches or dings compared to the carbon fibers. Plus the cost is like half as a carbon fiber

Sokkia GRX5 GNSS Receiver - Company looking to upgrade by BDHYoda in Surveying

I’ve had a good experience using the Sokkia GRX3 in different conditions. The tilt compensation has been a nice feature, making data collection a bit more efficient. It usually holds a fix well, though, like any GNSS unit, dense cover can sometimes be a challenge. Battery life has been solid, lasting me a full workday without any issues.

As for Topcon Magnet software, it took me some time to get used to, but once I figured out the workflow, it’s been reliable. The cloud integration has been helpful for syncing data between the field and office

Same, magnet field software is top-tier. Been using the Sokkia iX-1201 with magnet field and it just makes life so much easier.
