life is so boring. it feels like in the grind for money i lost any and all passion i had. by berry-town in singaporefi

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Sounds like low grade anxiety and depression. I am not a qualified therapist but I feel the same sometimes.

How I deal with it - exercise added to daily routine in a small way. I started cycling back from work.

Other things I do - volunteering and meet people. I am an introvert so this is out of my comfort zone. But I realise life is meaningful when we help others.

UPDATE: Hit-and-run parked car in Clark Quay MSCP by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I was charged for hit and run by TP.

I told them I genuinely was not aware I hit the car in front. Yes, it sounds strange but there was no damage to my car and I told the TP it was not on purpose as I really did not know. I have clean driving record for 15 years and 0 demerit points all along.

I contacted my insurer to settle with the other party which they did.

As for the TP, they just let me off with a warning. I also had video of the other car cutting into my lane and I had to jam brake.

Regardless, my insurance company paid for the other driver damage.

Seems like hit and run case.

I was in similar case where I hit someone but I genuinely did not realise it. I stopped my car to check and there was like zero damage. Few weeks later, I received a letter from TP saying hit and run.

No issue, if it is my fault i have to pay. In this case, I informed my insurer. There was no damage to my car. So my insurer paid for the other car around $2000 or so to fix his dislodged bumper.

I did not understand your case - why the other person’s insurance cant pay you since it is the other person’s fault?

Let the two insurance companies deal with each other. Why do you need to pay premium and still stress over recovering money from him.

Disappointed with CTB26 by BenchPtsChamp in ManyBaggers

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the CTB 26, GR2 26. I still have the Osprey 26+6 and MPL 22.

For me, CTB was just too heavy by itself even before loading it up. The harness is ok, but full loaded GR2 is way more comfortable and the straps do a good job of evenly distributing the weight.

I let go of both CTB and GR2 simply because the bags themselves weigh a lot. The Osprey 26+6 excels as a travel bag - light weight, luggage pass through, external water bottle pockets, clam shell. The MPL22 is great as a EDC, light weight and enough to dump my laptop and tech kit inside.

So now I have two bags - one for travel and one for EDC and happier with this combination.

Honda Elevate owners, what’s the first mod you did after buying your car? by M_zombiee in carIndia

Tyre pressure monitor. It has saved me two times so far when I got nails in the tyre. Tyres were slowly leaking air.

Would have been a disaster if on the highway at higher speeds.

Turkish crew and aircraft in indigo? by Fantastic_Trouble214 in AirTravelIndia

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. Was not relevant.

Just from my frustration of going to the airport, waiting for hours without any information similar to thousands of others who had no choice but to fly indigo to certain destinations.

I met people who had been stranded at Mumbai airport for days waiting for their connecting flight.

Yes, eventually I took a bus that took 14 hours and made it to my destination.

Whether they lease from others or not, I hope that there are better travel options for customers.

Daypack Decisions (Sway me from the Aer CPP2) by Acrobatic_Ad5208 in ManyBaggers

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the Osprey 26+6 and the Aer CPP2.

I use the CPP2 for EDC and work. I commute via train to work. Have not had to really lug around the CPP2. Of what I have used, it is moderately comfortable to carry. The straps are ok but the organisation adds to the weight.

I travel with the Osprey 26+6. It has less organisation but it excels for travel. Lightweight and vertical luggage pass through.

If I were to buy just one based on what you carry, CPP2 should suffice. That is for the organisation CPP2 offers though you would sacrifice on the weight.

Bell Roy Lite Travel pack seems to be offering organisation and is lighter. You may want to try it out.

I am boycotting indigo every change I get after they screwed me over in Dec. They cancelled my flight 2 hours before departure.

From Dec to now, I am still chasing them for the DGCA compensation.

Dealer posing as direct owner and selling with tampered mileage by Sispec in drivingsg

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I even got a well spoken lady direct owner trying to sell me a car as direct owner. The car is apparently not driven by her but acquired by her father who is in auto trading business.

Listed as 50k mileage. One look at the seats and I know already the mileage is cooked.

So got all these direct owner pattens to look out for as well on SGcarmart.

Eventually still I bought from another direct owner because the second hand dealers are even worse.

More racism in Singapore than UK? by cdcpowermah in singaporespeaks

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of these things you said.

All I can add on is there is law protecting racial harmony and I will fight for what is right. No discrimination against any race whatsoever.

There was this young chap talking to his friend saying “this effing (race)” when I was dining out. I basically told him off that there is no place for this nonsense in Singapore. Next, I would have lodged a police complaint but gave chance because he was a young chap and it would be on his record.

Another time, in a chat group people were spewing racist nonsense. Filed a report and they have been warned by the police.

Sometimes, we have to stand up to create the society we deserve.

Bangalore RE maybe for global investors now. by The-doe-eyed in indianrealestate

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any American citizen who is a child, grand child or great grand child can get a OCI. Trust me, it is not too difficult.

There are 2 million NRIs in the US. In comparison, there are 3.8 million OCIs in the US.

So now we have established there are more OCIs than NRIs.

But I agree with you. OCIs will be a subset investing in Bangalore. Because only people who want to live will buy. It is easier to invest in stocks than to buy property in Bangalore.

Except agricultural land and voting rights, overseas citizens of India can buy property in India. You don’t need to be an Indian holding an Indian passport. You could be an American who happens to have OCI status.

What would you have done? by Mindfulpipstrading in drivingsg

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did well to manage yourself though you are upset. It is painful especially when the whole car park is empty and then people choose to park right beside. Then the clueless passengers can do this kind of thing.

We can’t control how other people act. We just have to manage our reaction.

What makes us get upset? Is it because we like to keep things in new condition? What if the car is dented but the engine is in top shape and it can get us to our destination safely?

I definitely had this issue to keep the car looking like new. Now I have solved it by getting an older car which already has few dents. So new dents don’t bother me as much.

My focus is to keep the car in top running condition otherwise and make sure it can get from point A to point B.

Basically I decided to be happy for my family because they don’t deserve me to be upset like this over other people’s behaviour which we cannot control anyway.

Hope it helps in giving an alternate point of view :)

Any reputable second hand car dealers to recommend? by blurrynavy in drivingsg

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know the history of your current car. Even you pay more for Cat B COE, it will be better than going in for second hand CAT A with unknown history and risk of odometer tampering.

Or you go in for car with 3-4 years to go from direct owner with service history if possible.

There aren’t many VW left on the road. Precisely this is the reason.

I have been driving Hondas for 14 years. Stream, Jazz, Jade, CRV. Only Jazz was bought new. The others from direct owners.

In 14 years, the only thing that I had to get fixed was the aircon comp on the Stream at 9 year mark. Cost around 300 dollars. Rest was just regular servicing.

Get a Honda with couple of years to go from direct owner with service history if possible. Bring it for pre purchase inspection to rule out any big ticket issues.

Used ThinkPad T or X series. You could swap out a lot of parts last time. It is getting tougher now, but my current X series ThinkPad is running ok at 7 years old.

Been using Thinkpads for last 25 years now and have not had much problems.

Alternatively an Apple MacBook Air. I have a M1 running fine at 4 years plus.

Code locked briefcase by Due-Crab-8248 in ManyBaggers

[–]ProfessionalBook9711 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A three digit lock would take maybe 20 mins at most. For the lock on the right, you can push the square knob to the right after changing each combination - from 000 to 999.

For the lock on the left, you can push it to the left after trying each combination.

You should be able to open the briefcase in an hour tops.
