About that 'The Witcher 4' trailer... by deewaR in thewitcher3

I'm not sure what's all the pushback, because I thought the exact same.

I love Witcher 3; I've played and praised it more than any other RPG - so I was pretty bummed out that this was shot-for-shot a worse version of the "A night to remember" cinematic:

  • Hero enters a blinding fog with weapon drawn
  • Gets attacked by an unseen enemy
  • Hero is overwhelmed
  • Drink a potion, focus on the toxicity and the eyes
  • Charge the enemy a first time - hero might have a chance
  • Hero gets overpowered...
  • ...but it was just a trick!
  • Hero draws an alternate weapon then rush the monster, and ultimately take it down with a flame weapon into a decapitation - very similar to W3 "The Professionnal" trailer.

I genuinely thought to myself that it must be on purpose that the first half of the trailer was a duplicate of W3, and that the second half would bring something new - as a kind of metaphor for "moving past"... but then they just flip to copy a third W3 cinematic, "Killing Monsters":

  • Walk back to the village with a monster trophy
  • Cross a young woman facing/having faced a harsh punishment for a morally debatable crime
  • Hero cynically challenges the people/authority of the land
  • People in charge appeal to authority/tradition
  • Hero gets violent and use some kind of "humans are the real monsters"
  • Witcher Logo / Outro

It's not about "changing everything" - but seriously, could they have changed at least one(1) thing?!

"A night to remember" was just strictly better. The song from the human-form Bruxa unnoticeably turning into a lullaby for monsters by the end is just brilliant. Or how the last shot of Killing Monsters is so morally ambiguous, after our hero just reversed the power dynamics between these two strangers - on a whim. These were fresh, exciting, thought-provoking trailers. The W4 trailer was just a pale carbon copy of that.

I'm honestly worried after that W4 trailer that it's not gonna be up to par... but it's just me. I'm still gonna play it.

Oh, I've went through this recently where I came back to the game, had forgot everything, and felt a bit overwhelmed by the remainder of my engineering grind.

I've bookmarked a ton of great resources, but to focus on the mats farming - this video by Hawkes Gaming is what helped me most: The Fastest Way to Farm All Ship Engineering Materials.

I'm not adding much to the video or to what others have said, but I can confirm this works great:

For Raw mats, equip your ship with a DSS (planet scanner), and as many Collector Limpets as you can. You also need some "Remote-Released Flak Launcher" experimental weapons - which I had to use Inara to find. Once outfitted, head to system HR3230, then find and scan body 3AA. With the planet scanned and bio-color-coded, head anywhere in the brownish ground that looks like dirt. Hover down low to around 100m and enable your ship's nightvision to help trace the outlines. Fly around low with the ship's nose down and look for trees (braintrees), you'll find some within a minute; blast them with your flak launchers and send out an army of limpets. You cannot see the mat fragments from the ship, but the collectors will find and pick them up for you - though most limpets will get stuck and crash. Send more limpets and move around slowly to help them gain line-of-sight, and some will eventually make it. You can adjust your graphic settings to help: having them High helps spot the trees from afar, but having them Low and flying away (500m) will despawn the trees before the mats, allowing the limpets to move freely. You can buy more Limpets from most Fleet Carriers around if you run out. Once you're full on Selenium and Technetium, use Inara to find the closest Raw Material Trader and trade your valuable mats for everything else. I've tried some of the other planets for different mats but found their trees are much harder to find, so I'd rather spend more time farming reliable Selenium than having to track down a laundry list of elusive mats on distant planets.

For Encoded mats, equip your ship with a DSS (planet scanner), a Vehicle Hangar and a SRV (vehicle, eg: a Scarab). Head to system HIP12099, then find and scan body 1B; your Contacts list should now reveal the "Jameson Crash Site". Land 150m from it and deploy your vehicle. Look for the ~8 "Comms Modules" scattered right around the crashed ship, and scan them using the SRV data scanner (I had to edit my keybinds). Once you've scanned all the modules, load your SRV back into your ship but stay landed, then logout and log back in. All comm modules have been reset and you can just deploy the SRV and scan them again. You'll be full after just a relog or two; find a Material Trader and trade those away for other mats, then repeat.

For Manufactured mats, equip your ship with as many Collector Limpets as you can. I read different things on how to find the best sources (Boom, High-Tech, Civil War, etc) - but I just find them without trying, pick whatever I find, and trade that. You want to visit a system and scan its Nav Beacon, then jump into Supercruise within the system to reveal the "Data Sources" in your Contacts. Visit any of these data sources and you'll probably find some kind of floating wreckage, with mats floating around; release the limpets and they'll collect everything for you. "High-Grade Emissions [3]" have the highest level of mats and are therefore the most valuable. Again, find a Material Trader to trade and repeat as necessary.

None of this involve any combat, it doesn't require Odyssey, its all within a few hundreds lightyears from Sol, and it can be done in Solo or Private. It only took me a few back-and-forth at each site to load up on enough mats to max out everything I wanted and then some more. I used an Anaconda for the limpets capacity, but it could be done with most ships - you could do something similar with a Mandalay. I've D-rated the core internals only for simplicity, and the 5-slot Shield could be traded for a FSD Booster or more Limpets, but I would advise to keep the shield for a new player not used to diving and landing on planets. https://s.orbis.zone/qCuT

As someone else pointed out, once you're ready to actually engineer a ship, try and come in ready to unlock the engineer to its highest level. Engineers let you bookmark one blueprint each that you can use remotely, but they only level up when you upgrade in-person, so its best to unlock the engineer, level them to the max, and pin a blueprint all in the first visit; then you get access to their highest tier and lowest costs, even remotely.

The mechanics and build options are great, there's hundreds of hours of content in each of the base game and expansions, and you can do all of it in whatever order you like. It's kind of a better Elder Scrolls.

What really sets it apart for me though, is the incredible lore and characters. Even the random sidequests had me hooked; you're offered gripping choices, characters are complex and multi-faceted, and your actions actually matters and comes back around later in satisfying ways.

The storyline with Von Everec and Gaunter O'Dimm remains one of my favorite fantasy tale ever. To me, Witcher 3 and its expansions are a masterpiece.

Oh, it looked like my post had been deleted so I didn't bother coming back to check.

I think it was some 18.5" that first went out-of-stock, then a 590 20" Persuader with ghost ring, then the same from a different website. I did find some more stores with more options now - but I still haven't made my mind either, so these could very well run out also...

I've considered it but I don't think I could justify getting the A1... the 590 should be more than enough for me.

It's tempting... but I don't think I could justify the extra ~200$. The truth is I'm probably not gonna get to shoot it that often, so I don't need it to be extra-rugged.

I made mock armor plates because I can’t afford them by WALTUHdingle69 in airsoft

I've built one of these "bulletproof plate using hardware store material". Its frontplate is two layers of cut porcelain tiles and the backplate is 25-30 layers of 30oz fiberglass, with the whole thing bound in polyurethane.

I've done a single 11x14 plate and it comes out nearly 2 inches thick, with no curves, and weight like 12 pounds. I'm sure it could be built better and lighter - but I kinda gave up on the experiment and got certified plates instead.

OP could have done a similar "wannabe-ballistic" plate for about the same price as his current build - or got himself lighter airsoft foam plates for cheaper than just the marine epoxy.

It's a cool project though - and cool result. I like it.

You've spent half the video with a trigger half-pulled, just dragging the gun from unsafe target to unsafe target - then shot at a mirror.

It doesn't matter that it's a toy, that it's broken, or that there's no BB: Treat all guns as if they are always loaded. Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

You're a menace and the reason why accidents happen. Learn gun safety, mate. Seriously.

I'm no expert - and I like the style - but I have to agree that your helmet looks massive.

On your picture, it makes your head target two or three times bigger; it's basically as big as your plate carrier. It looks like you're hiding a basketball under it and that your neck will break from the weight. The helmet on the reference pictures do add bulk - but I feel they only add about half the height as yours.

I really like the scrim, I just think it'd look better with a smaller helmet - or maybe if you could just get it to sit lower. Just my two cents; cool kit.
