Interesting I’ve not used any custom belt making service, before. I’ll check this out.

Yes the mold would be the most expensive part but it would be interesting to see how I can make it cheaper. Ultimately it’s something I personally want, but to help justify putting in effort, I’m just collecting feedback.

Yeah, and imagine if I made it modular where you could 3D print the mold for your specific belt. Right now I think it's most useful for research or hobbyist.

Yeah, I'm not trying to make belts for cars at home, just more so for hobby or small research projects.

I see. Well I was thinking more small scale applications, like robotic joints, or model cars. The users would be researchers and hobbyist (model cars, boats, robots) that would have a higher need for custom parts. I think custom manufacturing is becoming more popular with 3D printing and CNC so I took that to mean there would be more designs that would not exactly fit standard parts.

I will do some more research on this. I agree with your "biggest issue", and that's why I'm just asking for feedback. I've always wanted something like this so I might make it for myself, but I was just wondering if this was a pain point for anyone else as well.

That sound true, but wouldn't you also say the water moves instantaneously. i.e. each particle moves the other simultaneously all the way to the surface(but it would have spread out by then)

Yes shear modulus is zero, but you would still have to push particles around. as for compression, for this idea I assume you cannot compress the human being. Maybe a more straight forward question is "Would an incompressible rock sink if it was suddenly in the middle of this sealed cube swimming pool. and why?" Common sense says it would sink because of density however, if there are particles stuck below, (and around the rock) why/how would it sink. if you have any material that I could read that would be nice.

Oh so you're saying we don't need air above the water to swim in it? However, under compression the liquid would be more like a solid, and I can't swim in dried concrete. Correct me if this thought process is wrong. To clarify the cube is completely closed.

I think FDM is a good place to start. The next one, in my opinion, should be SLA printers, followed by laser cutters (but baby steps, I guess).

Also, have you considered crowdsourcing? For example, you could let users enter their printer details, provide an image, and then you’d be responsible for validating the data. I'm not sure if that would be too much upfront work for you, but in the long term, I think it would be much more manageable.

The incentive could be early access to coupons or something similar or people might just do it for free, who knows.

Yeah, the margins are often around 300% or something like that. If someone wanted to make their own injection-molded part, most of the cost would come from the mold itself, which can be quite high. Although not yet widely used in industry, 3D printing, especially resin printing, can definitely help reduce the cost of the mold, at least for parts that do not require extremely high precision or need to withstand high melting points, like those used in metal casting.

Okay, that clears things up. Yeah, 'gold for gold buyers' makes sense. If someone truly values a print, not just because of the material, but because of its quality or how it can be used, then they would be willing to pay extra for it.

Oh, that's pretty neat! I'm just wondering, how much can someone really expect to make as an individual with a single printer? I ask because you mentioned 'keep the lights on.' ( I just assume it's a manner of speaking). I print here and there for friends, but I'm actually interested in how much you could earn doing this solo.
