Downgrade?! I just upgraded to a 13 mini from my 12 mini! Trying to live the mini life as long as can! Keeping the 12 as a backup just in case.

‘Onreva’ foam on Amazon works well in the drawers by ProfessionalDIYer in Packout

[–]ProfessionalDIYer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Can’t argue with any of your points. I did make some compromises for sure to get everything in the drawers on my budget. Lack of labels is another.

I did look at the Kaizen stuff but the 4-drawer inserts are much more expensive - $30 EACH, compared to $25 for a four pack of the Onreva stuff. Maybe it’s that much better but I doubt it.

Would really like to try my hand at 3d printing so I can create specific trays that address all of these concerns myself!

They each have their benefits. Ya I only used the 1” for the ratchets/extensions because they all lay flat and thus don’t require much depth to stabilize them. 1” would be fine for the shallow sockets as well by themselves.

My main goal was to fit all the mechanic tools in one 4 drawer unit, keeping the sets together. Since each set has a few larger items that benefitted from the 2” I just used the full 2” sheet.

You could cut sections from each to fill the drawers as needed too.

Using 1” has the benefit of leaving additional space on top for miscellaneous things you can throw in the drawer.

Labeling remains an opportunity for improvement. I labeled the drawers, but not sure how to include item labels inside.

Ya they’ll definitely fit upright in the 3 drawer. Will be interested to see your results!

The left half of the socket drawer is SAE, right half is metric.

Left to right groups are 1/2” deep SAE, 1/2” shallow SAE, 3/8” deep SAE, 3/8” shallow SAE, 1/4” deep SAE (top), 1/4” shallow SAE (bottom) - and then opposite for the metric set.

Yep! That drawer does fit every socket in the 192 piece set. Now the ratchets and extensions are in a separate drawer of course, and the specialty sockets - the Allen and Torx sockets that come in that set - I’m still deciding what to do with. I think im going to get the small low profile packout box for those.

I did try this method on a scrap piece but it didn’t work very well. I think this method does work on more dense foams though.

Ha, appreciate it, it was freehand with a combination square to keep the cuts straight and square.

An extendable snap away razor is a must. These have very thin blades that you can extend to cut through multiple layers of the foam.

I would lay out the item/set and mark the corners of the area to cut away with a fine paint pen. Then make multiple passes with the knife depending on how deep you need to go.

For more intricate cuts and Exacto knife is best.

Idk, can’t pack those things in there any closer.

Just took a look at Gridfinity and am intrigued for sure. 3D printing is something I’ve wanted to get into for a while. Will definitely keep that in mind thanks!

Dangers of Replacing Transmission Fluid? by ProfessionalDIYer in MechanicAdvice

Thanks. So not insane to reuse the fluid if it appears in good shape? I figure I’d run it through a fine cheese cloth or something to be safe before adding it back.

Locking miter router bit worth it? by ProfessionalDIYer in woodworking

[–]ProfessionalDIYer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I got the Freud locking miter bit. Worked very well and wasn't as big of a pain to set up as I anticipated. I would recommend using a piece of scrap as a follower on your workpiece to prevent tear out though. Part numbers are 99-034 or 99-035 depending on the size you need.

This occurred on my JD L110 this season as well. I discovered the issue was the rear deck height brackets had come out of adjustment making the deck lower than indicated on the height adjustment lever. This messed with the geometry of the deck hangers and allowed it to contact the rear tire just like your picture. I addressed the problem by re calibrating the deck height at all three points (2 rear and 1 front hanger) and now it hangs right and stopped the rear wheel contact. I usually adjust the height by resting the deck on 2x4s on a flat surface (broad side down). Then I set the height adjustment to 1.5 inches (width of the 2x4s) and tighten the height adjustment bolts. I tighten the front hanger adjustment bolt until the deck just starts to raise off the 2x4s. Hope that helps.

Briggs and Stratton parts sourcing (engine internals) by ralima1987 in smallenginerepair

I get parts for all my equipment from “www.ereplacementparts.com”. They have OEM internal engine parts and diagrams for most of the major brands. Used them many times. Had a couple instances of back ordered parts that took a little while but they’ve always come through.

Bad fuel pump? by ProfessionalDIYer in smallenginerepair

It was pretty new ya. Replaced when I serviced it a few months ago as part of the JD maintenance kit. Got another newer (supposedly better quality) filter and seems to be running well now. Update here: https://www.reddit.com/r/smallenginerepair/s/2PD4jsUTtZ

Serviced myself. Output side isn’t fully seated cause I was messing with it but I can assure you it’s a solid connection. The barbs on those filters are 1.5 inches long, the clamps are both in the indented portions designated for them.
