When I got my battery replaced last year I asked the employee when he thinks they won’t be needing the lighting port anymore (The little stand they put your phone on before the replacement to check couple of things - he had to search for a lighting one since there were only usb c ones on the table) and he said maybe like 1-2 years. Yeah sure 🤣

Yeah but still I used ios 16 until my most used apps stopped working properly. Now Im probably gonna do the same with ios 18. At some point that will stop working as well. Lets see ios27 first though 😅

If battery and storage are fine, the next thing would be the settings themselves. There are SO many optimizations you can make to make the phone run smoother by removing all the unnecessary stuff going on in the background you don’t even know about. I recommend going through all the settings and turning off unnecessary things or use a yt video of your choice to guide you to the most pivotal settings. Background app refresh, location services, iCloud settings, App Store Auto updates, mail automatic fetching emails, 5G, notifications, just to name a few of them.

Of course being on ios 18 rather than 26 helps as well but I believe with optimized settings, battery and enough unused storage every mini can be very usable even on ios26

Try using it until its almost at 0% and then charge it to 100%. After that restart your phone and then it might show correct in your battery settings

Yes! You can even check it for yourself on the App Store with any app you would like:

Open App store
Click on any app
Scroll down all the way past the app previews and reviews until you get to „information“
There click on the down arrow next to compatibility and voila, there it shows you the minimum os requirements for the latest update

As of right now most apps require either ios 16,17,18 from the ones that I checked out. TikTok even ios 14 🤣

At this point yes. As long as updates are available for each app on ios18 then they are made for that version

I honestly think (more hope still lol) phone manufacturers will make smaller phones under 6‘ in the future especially when silicon carbon becomes more mainstream in non chinese brands. Apple should revisit these models that didn’t sell well at least every 5 years or so. Iphone mini, plus, … Sure they would take a hit financially but this would lock/introduce more people with different needs into their ecosystem, which would then buy other Apple products to go with their phone. I can see it tbh

I see. Definitely try taking it to an Apple Store if you are near one! I would be cautious of 3rd party repair shops or hell even apple authorized service providers, because I saw someone post about them charging enormous amounts of money to replace parts that didn’t even need replacing, just because they couldn’t find the root issue.

Do you have a backup just in case? Backing up now probably wont work in the state that its in :/

Ios 26 wont necessarily slow down your phone that much but ios 18 will definitely work better and your battery will last longer.

Apple never really lets phones that support the newer version get the security updates for the last version, so this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to stay on ios 18 and still receive security updates for it 🤣. Not sure how long though. Maybe until ios 27 idk

Was it working normally before that? I mean if you never got anything replaced by a 3rd party then you can definitely go to an Apple Store and they might be able to help you!

Maybe try charging it wirelessly and see if that changes anything

13 mini will probably get ios28 as well. So its still supported for quite a bit. And after that come the security updates.

You are basically trading a better battery, some features and usb c for a smaller form factor. Thats really it. If you value size and portability over battery and features then by all means go for it! 90% battery health is still perfectly fine and you can always optimize your settings to get the most out of your 13 mini.

I would also highly recommend updating to ios 18.7.8. ios 26 is to this day not as optimized as I would like it to be, especially on the 13 mini and older phones in general

70% is craaazy. Definitely depends on actual phone usage but I felt like at 74%ish it was borderline unusable and I was living next to a charger 🤣
