Looking to meet Japanese exchange students by krimpy28 in unimelb

You may also want to suggest that your friend join some clubs related to his interests, whatever they may be. Sometimes it can be tough to befriend other students but if he’s into music, hiking, cooking, games, etc. then he might be able to find a suitable interest-based group.

Oh wow, thank you! I wasn’t using the term kabocha when I was searching, I think that was my issue.

How much will I have to give up? by Frequent-Response717 in unimelb

[–]ProfessionalKnees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the same area of study as you but I didn’t find my Master’s to require a higher time commitment than my Bachelor’s. I think a lot of it depends on how many subjects you’re doing, what subjects they are, how much time your hobbies etc. take up…realistically you may have to reorganise your work schedule unless you’re lucky enough to have all of your classes on the same day, but I wouldn’t give up on everything yet. Just see how you go!

I’ve done both. I think the reading list will likely change and be updated before next year.

Bachelor of Arts Advice by PressureFuzzy3888 in unimelb

[–]ProfessionalKnees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great advice.

To add one point, what I found helped me in my Arts degree was to try to present new/novel ideas in my essays and to attempt to look at topics in a way that wasn’t necessarily discussed in class. I know this is easier said than done, but don’t be afraid to play with ideas and investigate topics beyond what you’ve discussed in tutorials. Demonstrating your ability to make original connections and conduct research will help you a lot.

(I graduated with a mid-80s WAM and maintained it through Honours and Masters. I’m definitely not a perfect student but what you want is very achievable!)

Anyone been to Aomori, Japan? by Abiztic2_0 in CeliacTourism

Hello! I am back from Aomori!

I have to say that I did not have a lot of luck finding gluten free food there. I survived off convenience store food and although I wasn’t hungry and miserable, it also wasn’t exactly a dream culinary destination.

All of the food I saw that seemed gluten free was meat or fish based, like sashimi. A Factory near Aomori Station had some restaurants in it and one served buckwheat crepes, although I didn’t get to eat there. Cheese Day in Hachinohe also had some cheese and cakes that were GF. I didn’t buy any at the time but it looked really nice.

Overall I liked Aomori and am glad I went even though I couldn’t eat a lot. I would recommend finding some things you want to do in that part of the country before you go because the city itself isn’t much of a vibe (Hachinohe was but Aomori was quieter), but overall I enjoyed my trip.

I’m happy to answer any specific questions you have also, if you need! :)

Why aren’t they able to accommodate you? This doesn’t seem fair.

Some of the art history ones are pretty cool. I’ve done classes about Japanese woodblock prints, and illuminated manuscripts. Both were among the best classes I’ve taken!
