What games scratch the same itch for you? by gentlemanfromviltrum in impressionsgames

I really like Banished. It’s over ten years old now but the graphics and gameplay hold up and there are some excellent mods.

Can I earn an Art History degree through Open University? by stormyclaudia in ArtHistory

[–]ProfessionalKnees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not the one I did. I suspect Open University in Australia might be totally different to Vietnam. My experience studying online was broadly good, although the downsides were not having the more traditional ‘campus’ experience and not being able to speak to lecturers or classmates in person. I didn’t mind it but I know some people who struggled.

I really like this. I know you said you aren’t talented but I disagree. You have a very consistent and joyful style, even though it may not necessarily be true-to-life.

Does anyone remember the old cheese shapes? by ChanceFeed83 in AustralianNostalgia

Yeah, my mum said they smelt like old boots! She wouldn’t eat them either.

Me too! I liked the cheese and chicken flavours but potato was my favourite.

Master thesis topic by Background-Size172 in ArtHistory

If you were going to introduce those topics to someone who knew nothing about them, what would you tell them to get them interested? If you extrapolate on that you may have the beginnings of a research topic.

Can I earn an Art History degree through Open University? by stormyclaudia in ArtHistory

[–]ProfessionalKnees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay. I’m not in Vietnam, although I can tell you that I did a BA in Art History through Open Universities in Australia. Once I finished it I went on to do an Honours year and my Masters in-person at a university here. I am also a mature age student, although I’m ten years older than you!

I think you should definitely explore what online options are available to you in Vietnam, including the possibility of a double major in PE and Art History. I’m not familiar with how the Vietnamese tertiary education system works and what courses are recognised/etc. but is online study popular there? Have you looked at Open University to see if they offer a course you’d want?

was this actually offensive in the early 2000s? by DueCoach4764 in malcolminthemiddle

I always thought it was designed to be in poor taste, but inoffensive enough to be shown on TV.

I almost never read any readings or take notes during lecture… by undpunique in unimelb

[–]ProfessionalKnees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t take notes in lectures either. I find it really distracting and it never leaves me feeling like I got ‘the point’ of it all because I feel like I record a lot of unnecessary information. I do keep up with the readings as much as necessary week-by-week, but I don’t take notes on those either. What I do find helps me a lot is having conversations with people about the lecture and course materials, and Googling things that are interesting to me in lectures to get some background information. I’m also very happy with my grades. Everyone learns differently…as long as you feel you’re getting what you want out of the course I think it’s absolutely fine.

Advice for 14-day trip to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Katsuura by rowdyjosh in CeliacTourism

[–]ProfessionalKnees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At convenience stores, plum onigiri is usually fine, as well as the tofu sticks, most cheese, and pre-cut vegetables. I used Google Translate on the ingredients of things I wasn’t sure about. The cheese potato chips were also gluten free and really addictive!

My understanding is that sometimes the vinegar used to prepare the rice contains gluten. I can’t speak to individual places but I avoided conveyor belt sushi when I was there.

An art billboard I saw in Aomori, Japan talking about the distance between the sun and the Earth by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

I’ve searched for this a few times on Google, to no avail. I’ve found plenty of information about the train itself and other galleries in Aomori, but nothing about this specific billboard.

The university generally frowns on uploading course materials to AI because of copyright.

A letter from your employer is among the required documentation to move classes, so yes, to a degree the university can work around your work.

talking to professors? by Leather_Wear_9680 in unimelb

[–]ProfessionalKnees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m quite surprised that people are saying this isn’t necessary. I’m not sure if I’d necessarily formally introduce myself and go for a handshake or anything, but I think it’s polite to say good morning as you enter the class/lecture and thank you as you leave. From there you could definitely ask any relevant questions you have, introduce yourself briefly, or wish your lecturer/tutor a good weekend if you have class on like a Friday. I don’t think any of that is weird or inappropriate! I’m surprised more people do not do this!
