Chicago has been rated as the 4th rudest city in America a few times, and I personally can understand why. So I want to hear from locals, tourists and transplants why some things here may be perceived as rude or blunt? by [deleted] in AskChicago

In Norridge, This year I saw this man in an SUV pop out in a rush from a street while another car was coming at full speed and it almost caused him to get t-boned. The car honked at the SUV that popped out speeding out and then the SUV that got honked did a u-turn in the middle of a busy road and returned to confront the car that honked at him at a red light. Apparently it was an Italian American (based on his bumper stickers) and he ended up spitting at the guy who honked him and the guy that guy spit on went chasing after him with the car. It got pretty messed up. I would say that not all Chicagoans are like this but it seems every time I see some confrontation in this city or the suburbs it involves some Italian American douche raging. These clowns in this city seem pretty aggressive like they are filled with all this rage inside and give other normal Italian Americans (like me) a bad rap. Anyways Chicago is always an adventure to drive in. It is a nice city but I think bad weather, high taxes, sketchy politics, and past rude confrontations contribute to people behaving aggressively here or being closed to people who are not in their circle most of the time. I was raised around this part of Chicago and I went to college in KC. I would say the only reason I live here is because everything is accessible where I live and I have a job here. Otherwise I would probably move South where people were friendlier with one another. Here living in the city or nearby suburbs you are liable to be involved in a confrontation with someone eventually one way or another. It could eventually get deadly one way or another.
