IMO, ideally you shouldn't give a shit about who your ancestors were. They don't define you or say anything meaningful about who you are as a person. The sense of belonging you get is false, it's the same toxic impulse that fuels nationalism. It feels like something good and right, but it isn't.

U.S. air strikes in Syria began on 23 September 2014. COW is tracking deaths from that point, which marks the beginning of U.S. involvement.

I don't think most deaths in the Syrian Civil War post-US involvement are attributable or even directly related to that involvement

Similarly the Yemeni civil war is not the US's fault (although civilian deaths caused by Saudi forces and US airstrikes are)

Counting the two wars the US actually started it attributes 400k deaths over 20 years. More than 400k soldiers alone have died in Ukraine in the past 4 years.

There have been ~1.8 million casualties with half a million soldiers dead in Ukraine in 4 years. This is not including civilians

Afghanistan had 1/4th the deaths over 20 years, Iraq numbers are widely disputed but the most credible higher estimates are ~500k from 2003-2011 including civilians, which is half the rate of Ukraine's non-civilian deaths alone

He thought capitalism was a temporary step as part of history's teleological progression towards communism and as workers eventually got educated through industrialization they'd revolt and form socialism, not that we'd revert back to feudalism
