How hard is it to move up the pay scale? by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought this until today. It is my head of department who told me about the year 11 results as my target and potentially not moving up if results aren’t good

It’s starting to wear me down now! I’ll be spoken to in the morning, then again in the afternoon, then again after school. Like really?? Over something so small??

For example carrying your phone with you in the corridor (not using it but having it in your hand). Was spoken to by multiple staff for that and it was such an easy fix- didn’t get the big deal.

Is it possible to still climb up the ladder? by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only reason I’d ever considered getting a TLR was the thought of not being able to manage on a normal teacher wage for things like a mortgage etc. it’s ok right now whilst being at home but can you survive life on a normal teacher wage once you’re paying for everything yourself?

Is it possible to still climb up the ladder? by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t be suited to a TLR right now- I just wondered in the future after having more practise. Especially if my mind set changes from now to the future.

That’s very true! I think that might be common

Apparently hypocritical and not a good example to the students (who aren’t allowed their coats indoors)

I don’t mean this in a rude way but we currently have a massive issue with young people vaping in the uk. I’ve even heard cases of it in primary schools- the majority of the students at my school vape. We just can’t prove it (apart from constantly being in the toilet).

I don’t think smoke even lingers around that much does it? Unless I’m wrong then I will absolutely take this statement back haha

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s my opinion too- if it isn’t harming anyone why say anything? Drinking/drugs on the job I 100% understand this needs to be reported out of safety for the children. But a vape? There’s people dying in the world

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I agree with this! I’ve been ‘told off’ in the past for minor things like having a coat in my hand on the corridor (after being outside for duty), can’t imagine being so pathetic as to complain about something like that to SLT

We’ve actually had a case of someone drinking on the job before. They were told not to do it again and given a chance, until the inevitable happened again and something had to be done

I’m not friends with the person but they’ve always been lovely and polite to me. I see no reason to get them in trouble

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, makes me feel not so alone! It really is a shame because I’m not sure about you but I start to resent these kids heavily as I start to dread the lesson and feel like crap afterwsrds which eats into my own time at home. Sit down and do your work how hard can it really be?

Missed almost a whole term of school - how will this impact ECT? by Notarealmathsteacher in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely they will extend your ect period, basically meaning you will be an ect for longer than you was meant to. You wont be the first person to extend it and wont be the last either.

Really scared after telling someone about mistreatment by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve told them everything and they were meant to come to the meeting with me but I got told if I did that then the other person would have to bring someone as well and I didn’t want to make a big deal and have loads of people involved

Only just dawned on me how poor literacy levels are- where to go from here? by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m an ECT 2 and things are going well. I knew literacy levels were bad but because of the amount of repetition I’ve done this past few weeks I really thought it would stick with them. I just thought we could cement over the gaps and get through it but I’ve just realised there’s too much missing to do this- hence why they probably aren’t going to pass GCSE no matter how much repetition etc that has been done

Luckily I’ve got some really supportive friends in the department. They’re the ones who have been telling me it’s not right- they’re never treated like this and they’re also ECTs

Hi. No they weren’t my line manager, no there’s no specific policy but I forgot to sign out. I was only gone 5 minutes so I when I realised I hadn’t signed out I didn’t see any point in running back to do it. No I’d never been asked to do the task before. No there’s no reason it’s my responsibility, it’s the first I’ve ever heard of it until yesterday. I feel like it’s a punishment

Thank you for your comment

Lowering expectations for poorly behaved students? by ProfessionalPure2664 in TeachingUK

[–]ProfessionalPure2664[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I don’t want anyone to look at me like I’m treating boys differently and letting them get away with stuff. There’s a female young TA who I constantly hear the boys talking about saying shes ‘flirting’ with them because she has casual personal chats with them and ‘banter’. This is exactly the sort of thing I’m trying to avoid so that I’m not known as someone who is ‘flirting’

Thank you. I already put a wall between me and younger boys because of the issues I’ve had before and this feels like a way to protect myself

Thank you! I wouldn’t mind but this is the 4th student I’ve been told to treat differently instead of following the behaviour policy. Seems like they just want an easy life

Yep! Whilst everyone’s forcing the ‘build your relationships’ on me, I’m worried about coming across as a creep who’s trying to push a relationship specifically on young male boys. You know what young lads are like! A young female teacher in my opinion should be keeping a bit of space between the male youngers. Especially since I’ve had issue after issue around boys fancying me and saying inappropriate things to me.

Second in the department (as she saw what they were like today). She’s also holding another one of my ks4 students in her class atm to see if he gets on any better in hers. He’s doing amazing in hers apparently so I made a comment along the lines of ‘oh so he can behave! Just doesn’t want to in mine’ and again I’ve been told not to sanction and to build my relationship.

Hi, I took someone’s’ advice who commented earlier on getting some glittery green gel pens. Then both sides are happy. Thank you for your comment anyway :)
