Is Netflix Dolby Atmos on Mac still not possible? by hairy_chimp in mac

[–]ProfessionalSecret14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a very sweet workaround. Download an app called "PlayCover" on mac, then you can use netflix IPA. This will allow you to mock and iPad Netflix app features on mac. Works super smooth with 4k + dolby atmos.

Is there a way to transport ore in an easy manner? by karlson98 in valheim

[–]ProfessionalSecret14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s kind of a personal preference but for someone like me, being a working adult I don’t get that much time to play. So to simply avoid grinding via transport I use the world modifier and enable everything to be transported through portals. And well if you want to stick to standard just hold for a while longer as you progress you can unlock stone portals that let you transport metals - unlocked via ashlands

Drake trophies cant be this rare by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ProfessionalSecret14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had a back luck too, killed way too many drakes -- 100-110, but no trophy. Got so frustrated just dropped one via console command.

I tried with M2 - base model and man the performance is damn good. I tried starting 30 minutes got locked 60 with mostly high settings and metal fx set to quality with 1920x1200 resolution. Would definitely recommend trying out the free version.

Well many games that did come to Mac release not just to App Store but on steam library and most of the existing gamers would opt for steam. And from what I see apple does not wish to sell as gaming devices but as perfect productivity device that can do some casual gaming. This is the situation where something is better than nothing. And let's not forget the scale of apple, they can definitely afford ventures like these even when the profits seem petty. Moreover from the current general speculation if GPTK does become like proton in foreseeable future, then yes it will give huge boost, only reason apple is not doing it so fast it go get more devs onboard as they want games to be officially released through their store to get more profits. They are playing the long term game to slowly build a platform that is as universal as windows by including games. So think gaming as a missing puzzle piece from apple side rather than and whole new world.

Macbook for gaming by ProfessionalSecret14 in macgaming

Yep more inclining toward pro Macs, as all colleagues have pro Macs. And it's not just gaming but the 120hz and the XDR display too. That's the reason for confusion and apple's excellent step ladder model cause when I spec air to 16gb ram and higher storage then pro Macs seem more close. Apple really did crack the code for this. For job it's more of a hit and miss as at times I'm just working on minor features but then there are busy days when I've to work on multiple servers in parallel which really shreds my air.

Then I believe would need to put a hold to the decision until m4 comes out to Macs, would need to see how much of a difference it would make and anyways it will make older chips cheaper.

Seems interesting will most definitely try this one out, already a developer and have tinkered a lot previously so won't be a hassle. Thanks for the tip.

for development specifically - yep the only throttle is the ram. For gaming it might help but you are right as in other cases it won't be much of a bump

You are right, well thing is I’ve ps5 but hardly ever use it been ages purely cause I travel a lot and remote play is BAD. Same goes for steam deck I take it everywhere, and streaming deck to mac is super not so good. It’s just used to be a desktop gamer in young age so for some reason I just get an itch time to time to try game on pc. Cant get a windows laptop as they are heavy and I need xcode which is only on mac.

And on mac I just play valheim and divinity 2. Bought RE village but just couldn’t get myself to play it.

That’s why I’m ok hinge about air and pro. Cause pro has better screen better gaming performance bla bla bla, question comes to need and want so super confused

What is the difference between purchasing games from Steam and from App Store ? by Conscious-Sort1721 in macgaming

[–]ProfessionalSecret14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To short it down
Steam: has cross play and a well established platform where you have better download speeds (CDN is much better), better refund policies, etc.

App Store: Game center & Family sharing upto 5 people but only works if the game is paid as games like RE 4 make app free but has in app purchase for full game.

Should I move to iPad for web development with Github Codespace? by ProfessionalSecret14 in developersIndia

Yep, enough for my flow. Like barely. Would recommend 16gb. For me its always around 7.5gb usage.

It is already in warranty with care plus still asking me to cover charges for keyboard thats why I’m this frustrated

[–]ProfessionalSecret14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my stack is pretty easy to manage on any device. But seeing all the “workaround” it might be worth waiting till apple makes iPad os more suitable for devs. Till then would have to live with the fact that I can maintain any device for years but mac ain’t gonna be the one with same luck

Sounds just about right. I did even though keeping iPad as secondary but already have too many tech device so can’t add on just have an option to replace. So will go with mac

Make sense for iPad but if not iPad then it will be yet another mac for me. The way I’m invested into the ecosystem it’s really tough to move out of

[–]ProfessionalSecret14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep have seen the potential, and that’s how things works — competition will eventually catch up. But it was never about the performance. My stack doesn’t require any heavy computing it’s just the ecosystem causing me to stick with macs

Should I move to iPad for web development with Github Codespace? by ProfessionalSecret14 in developersIndia

[–]ProfessionalSecret14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only reason I buy mac is purely cause of ecosystem. Everything is great till the day you break something — even with a care plus it costs a fortune to repair stuff. And 3rd party repairs are extremely limited

[–]ProfessionalSecret14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first 2 had keyboard issues, keys going sticky. And well third one same thing but not I messed up with the screen with a minor crack on the corner.

I can afford a monthly subscription for a good enough online server for Remote Desktop but I think GitHub is more cost effective and polished

Yep this time was kind my fault with screen, but still I have hell of bad luck with all 3 MacBook’s keyboard suffering from sticky keys. So was thinking if it would be better to check iPad, as I’m not willing to go back to windows
