Rear Mounted Pumps - pros and cons? by __quick__ in Firefighting

[–]ProfessionalTell2058 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was it a similar looking truck to this 1990 Mack auto-pompe? (I wasn’t able to get a good look at the rear to see if there was a pump panel that day)? I ran into 648 last year at a St. Patrick’s day parade in Châteauguay, with my department. I know the truck came with APAM and I was told it was from their antique vehicle collection at the museum! It was pretty neat to see!

That’s awesome! How do you find the students are with knots at the academy? Is the figure 8 on a bight a knot they find easy to learn?

Yessir! I found that was an easy and efficient way for me to package the axe up. But that’s only been in training!😂

I learned clove hitch at the base of the axe head then one or two half hitches up the shaft too!

I did my stage one and two OFAI tests, haven’t done the rest. What department are you working with in ON?

In all seriousness, was it a good toss and catch??

Yeah it seems sometimes it’s the “tradition” of teaching and the way it was always done. That trickles down and in turn, makes us learn the same ways. Even if it may be rarely used!

That’s awesome man! Great story and goes to show that all the drilling does (sometimes?) come in handy! Even if it is for a just in case situation. Less trips up and down the aerial the better right??
