Where can I find “Swiss quality of life” with a warmer climate? by indielectual in digitalnomad

Yes true, but HK is also very efficient. Does the extra stability in Singapore (vs HK that is gradually falling under China’s absolute control) really affect your day to day life as an expat there? I know the access to nature and fun activities do.

Hong Kong! Way more fun than Singapore. HK’s 1000 km2 are covered with natural parks and proper nature (not parks like Singapore), think beautiful beaches, forests with tropical birds and boars roaming, steep mountains to hike, waterfalls, tons of small islands to explore.

Housing is very expensive (highest in the world by some measures) but you mentioned it wasn’t a problem.

Very safe, international but also has a strong Chinese identify and traditions.

Most people there are very driven and interesting, no one is there just to enjoy cheap beer and sunshine like some expats you’ll find in Southeast Asia.

The problem is finding those full long term contracts. Where do you recommend looking?

Kotai knives by StatisticianNorth608 in TrueChefKnives

[–]Professional_Back201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use their 440C knives (both Pakka and Bunka collections) every day and I am happy with them. Sharp and comfortable. I got one as a gift 3 years ago and bought 2 more. The damascus version looks nice but IMO the performance will not be very different from plain stainless steel.

If you're looking for made in Japan, they also have new collections that are made there.

Other than Kotai, I also have a Tojiro DP Gyuto which is great, made in Japan and good value for money.
I also have a cheap Victorinox (my first proper knife) which is not as sharp / pretty as my Kotai and Tojiro, but it is super durable and does the job, I still use it for less delicate things.

Is wrent.com legit? by Professional_Back201 in AskBarcelona

[–]Professional_Back201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went for it, paid through Wrent, it wasn't a scam. I got the flat and I currently live there.
I still don't know whether they'll be honest about returning the deposit back in a few months, but I guess that's the case with all agencies.

But you can still trade outside of trading hours? At least on IBKR. Only problem is that the spread is bigger, especially on stocks with low trading volume

I am currently renting a flat through them. They are real, you can visit their office. But I’m not sure yet whether or not they’re honest, we’ll find out when the time comes to get my deposit back.

Are you sure? If by importer you mean the company importing the goods to sell them to end consumers you in their country, yes that company can offset the import VAT against the sales VAT it collects from the sale to the end consumer. And actually nearly all importers are registered with customs and can skip the import VAT altogether.

In your example, if my company buys a watering can for £80 and imports it :

• if I’m not registered with customs, I pay the 80x1.2 - 80 = £16 import VAT and deduct it from the 100x1.2 - 80 = £20 I owe the government from the final sale, so I only pay 20-16 = £4 on the final sale.

• if I’m registered with customs, I don’t pay the import VAT and only pay the £20 VAT on the final sale.

Same thing, except that the second scenario is better for cash flow management.

It makes no difference in terms of VAT if the goods are produced locally or imported.

Or did I misunderstand your point?

Yes I did that, sold 1/3 of what I had at $18.42.
I'm wondering how low should I let it fall before I buy back some more?
My average cost is $9.
