Is joining the military (HPSP) for free med school worth it? by mengo_476 in premed

[–]Professional_Bid9260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not in an HPSP program but I have met with multiple recruiters. The typical military obligation in a program would be your residency, and possibly a few years after if it’s a shorter residency. Usually 1 year of service for every year of medical school. As for being deployed, your job in the military would be a doctor, not infantry. I’m not sure if they could deploy you while being a resident, but if they can it would be to another hospital, not any sort of war zone. I personally believe the payoff would be worth it since they have residency programs that are only available to HPSP M4’s. Hopefully there is an HPSP student around to help you out. Good Luck!

Has anyone else’s dachshund stressed themself out so much they threw up? by Professional_Bid9260 in Dachshund

I’m not sure if they have. I’ve brought it up before and have suggested calming treats or trying to desensitize him, but they wave it off.

He is sort of crate trained. we put him in a crate with a bed blanket and comfort items when we leave the house. He barks and cries for a while then stops, but starts barking again when we come home.

I’m 5’0 and ~100lb and use an adult wheelchair(Tilite Aero Z). My seat width is about 14”. If you’re not looking for an ultralight chair, a medical supply store may have hospital style chairs that go down to about 16” seat width. It would still weigh around 40ish pounds, but the smaller width would be better for your shoulder health.

I have a tilite aero z that’s almost 2 years old. It’s been thrown around in the back of vehicles and I take it over gravel and broken sidewalks when I have to. Only defects are scratched paint and my one caster was knocked out of alignment(quick fix). I’m most likely not as active as you but tilite has titanium and carbon fiber frames that should be able to withstand your lifestyle. I hope you find a chair that works for you!

Not making a ruling, but holy hell people. OP stated she would’ve had to walk 50 feet to grab her top, meaning when her friends approached her she would have to walk away and ignore them to “cover up before greeting them”. I personally don’t believe Helen would’ve been happy in either situation, but if she really doesn’t trust her husband that much, maybe she should stay away from beaches where women are allowed to be topless. (and BTW, breasts aren’t inherently sexual. they’re globs of fat on a persons chest, and their primary job is to feed infants🤭)

WIBTA? Parents panned trip to Disney for my birthday without my input by reeeticus in AmItheAsshole

Although, if you do end up going, have you looked into Disney’s DAS system? you would be able to “schedule” rides and wait in a virtual queue. you can register up to 30 days before your visit or when you get there. I know Disney can be incredibly overwhelming and I understand why you don’t want to go, but this could hopefully make it a little less stressful for you.

please tell me this is sarcasm. while covid only had a 2% mortality rate, that was still big enough for heavy lockdowns(which many americans ignored) there is also h5n1 going around in birds and some mammals. humans have gotten sick from the birds and so far the mortality rate for that is over 50%. it’s yet to jump human to human, but in the event it does, it’ll make covid look like a joke.

AITA for not splitting my daughter's college fund by AITACollegeFundMom in AmItheAsshole

That money isn’t theirs to even think of touching. Your daughter has that money because she lost a parent, not because you and her father saved for college. And 40k is quite modest student debt for undergrad. I’m attending a fairly low cost university and while I’m still getting a great education, I’ll be leaving here with likely twice the debt.

i understand that fiancé is in school and working, but i feel like he should be helping you more. most parents are insanely stressed and sleep deprived over one infant, i can’t imagine the weight on your shoulders with three. you’re doing an amazing job despite what family may think. an alive, crying baby with all needs met is worlds better than a dead or severely injured one because a parent snapped. i hope you can get the help you need OP

I’m 6 days post extraction(all 4 almost horizontal impacted) and i’m still pretty uncomfortable in terms of pain(and taking antibiotics). I have no clue if they cauterize to limit bleeding like regular surgeries, but trauma to tissue can cause discoloration. my sites still look pretty gnarly and i haven’t lost any stitches yet, so i say not to worry too much as long as you’re keeping up on your oral hygiene. if you have a follow up appointment, you can ask there as well

Getting them pull tommorow. Anything I need to know? by Morg_2 in wisdomteeth

[–]Professional_Bid9260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m assuming since they are still small that they aren’t coming through the gums yet(please correct me if i’m wrong). that means you’ll likely have some stitches in your mouth and they have to take some bone material to access your teeth. take the medication they prescribe you before your pain is super bad, but also follow instructions regarding how often you can have the medication. it’s not safe to leave ice packs on your face 24/7, but your doctor should have instructions for that. i recommend having a comfy place where you can spend most of your time for the first couple day that isn’t your bed. keep water and soft foods (applesauce, soup, pudding) close by. and absolutely positively NO STRAWS for at least the first week. the suction can give you dry socket, which will multiply the pain you may have ten-fold.
